Sematan travel guide and discussion

Sematan Waterfront Beach is a must-visit coastal gem in Sarawak, where beautiful sandy shores, gentle sea breezes, and spectacular sunsets create the perfect beach getaway. After enjoying a relaxing stroll along the scenic beachfront, make your way to the popular Sam Chai Seafood Restaurant, a favourite among locals and visitors for its fresh and delicious seafood. Don’t miss their signature Butter Prawns with Egg Floss, coated in rich, fragrant buttery goodness, or the Sweet and Sour Bawal Fish, perfectly crispy and bursting with flavour. The restaurant also serves a variety of fresh prawns, crabs, squid, vegetables, and other seafood delights that pair wonderfully with steamed rice. Before leaving Sematan, be sure to savour an authentic bowl of Sarawak Laksa, renowned for its aromatic broth and unique local flavours. With stunning beach scenery, mouthwatering seafood, and authentic Sarawak cuisine, Sematan is a destination that will satisfy both your eyes and your appetite. #SematanBeach #SamChaiSeafood #VisitSarawak #SeafoodLovers #SarawakLaksa #BeachGetaway #TravelSarawak

🌴Dreaming of a laid-back getaway along Sarawak’s wild coastline? Sematan delivers ocean breezes, dramatic skies—and, for families or couples, Roxy Beach Resort is the top spot to soak in the tropical vibes. Just steps from Sematan’s clean beach, the resort is ideal for seaside fun, seafood feasts, and striking photo ops—think playful tigers and LIFE OF PI scenes with the resort as your Insta-worthy backdrop!🐅 Roxy Beach Resort (RPHX+4G) sits right on the main stretch of Sematan, making it easy to reach by car from Kuching or Lundu. Guests rave about the spacious swimming pool—a big hit with kids and adults alike, especially on rainy days when the ocean is moody. Rooms and facilities score high on cleanliness, with modern touches and a fresh feel throughout. The beach here remains impressively clean, perfect for sunrise strolls or DIY picnics with a fresh seafood spread from town. Breakfast is included, but set your expectations: it’s basic and good for refueling, but not exactly gourmet. The on-site store adds a layer of convenience if you need snacks or essentials, though you might want to bring your own beach snacks for variety. Seating areas are plentiful, but a little improvement in comfort would make them more inviting for late-night chats. Pro tips: For best sunset shots, snap a photo near the famous LIFE OF PI sign—especially if the clouds add dramatic flair! Seafood in Sematan is fresh and cheap; ask locals for the best market finds and grill by the beach. Sematan Beach has unique feature as the sun will rise and set via its beach and horizontal angle. Don't forget to catch the moments when weather so cooperative. #beachlife #awesomepic #sunrise

#bucketlistreboot Had a great 2 day at SPBR, fantastic location and excellent staff. Friendly and efficient. The site is well maintained clean and tidy and anything washed up on the beach in the region of the resort is tidied up. The pool was clean, fresh and clear also maintained daily. Food was good and tasty and seating in the restaurant area plentiful both inside and out. As ever with coconut palms, beware if falling coconuts. It was great watching the many tiny Bubble sand crabs on the beach which is just a few steps away, recreate the beaches many coconut palms in sand patterns. Free Wi-fi is available in the main bar/restaurant area. A nice addition I think would be a pool/ billiard table. I will be happy to return on my next visit to Sematan.

#momentstomovie Stepping into my weekend retreat at Roxy Beach Resort in Sematan felt like hitting the reset button on life. I opted for the Standard Ocean View Room, costing around RM 350 to RM 420 per night depending on weekend rates, which was worth every penny for the private balcony overlooking the South China Sea. Waking up to the soothing rhythm of waves crashing against the shore while soft sunlight filled the air-conditioned room, complete with clean minimalist furnishings, plush bedding, high-speed Wi-Fi, and an electric kettle for my morning coffee. The resort itself hits the perfect balance between modern comfort and coastal calm, featuring a massive, crystal-clear outdoor swimming pool complete with water slides that sit just steps away from the sand. One of the most convenient perks was having an attached Lee Papa Supermarket downstairs, making it effortless to grab chilled drinks and midnight snacks whenever I pleased. The broad, golden stretch of beach right out front offered dramatic horizon views, smooth sea breezes, and peaceful solitude as I spent hours taking long walks along the water's edge. Beyond the resort grounds, Sematan revealed its true charm through delicious local culinary stops and untouched natural hidden gems. A major local insider tip is to head out early in the morning to the nearby fish market or local stalls to sample fresh seafood or authentic local breakfast dishes like warm Kolo Mee before the midday humidity sets in. If you want a quick adventure away from the beach, drive a few minutes to Kampung Sebat Baru to splash around in the cool, refreshing mountain water at Sebat Waterfall. Back at the resort, spending the late afternoon lounging by the pool with a cold drink before stepping out onto the wet sands for sunset proved to be the ultimate luxury. As night fell, the sea breezes cooled down the entire property, creating a tranquil atmosphere perfect for stargazing directly from my private terrace. #WeekendEscape #RoxyBeachResort #SematanVibes #SarawakTravel #OceanViewRetreat #CoastalLiving #MalaysiaTravel #IslandMindset #BeachSideEscape #DiscoverSarawak

Roxy Beach Resort has an interesting history as part of the development of Sematan into a more popular beach and tourism destination. The developer, Tecktonic & Sons Holdings, first explored Sematan in 2017 after seeing the beautiful coastline and views around Pueh. The development started with Roxy Sematan Villa and Townhouse, which officially opened in April 2021. The Roxy Beach Resort development later expanded into a larger beachfront destination, combining hotel accommodation, serviced apartments, dining, retail and event facilities. The resort's official opening preview was held in December 2024, marking another important step in the development of Sematan as a tourism destination. What I like about Roxy is that it combines modern resort facilities with the natural beauty of Sematan. The beach, swimming pool, ocean views and relaxing surroundings make it a nice place to spend time with family and friends. The resort also offers activities such as kayaking, pickleball, ATV rides and beach cycling, so there are options for both relaxation and outdoor activities. For me, the best part is still the beach atmosphere — enjoying the sea breeze, walking along the beach and relaxing while looking out at the South China Sea. It is nice to see how a quiet coastal area has gradually developed into a more complete holiday destination while still keeping its natural seaside character. #Kuching
