Heading from Sendai Asaichi Morning Market (仙台朝市) to check out at Daiwa Roynet Hotel, a mere 10-minute walk, but the West side of Sendai Station wouldn't let me go easily! I got hypnotized starting from Sendai Station, S-PAL, Daiso, and stretched all the way to Yodobashi Camera. In the end, I arrived at the hotel almost an hour late because "just a quick look" simply doesn't exist. For those staying in this area, make sure to allocate extra time when passing through the station. The food and goods are truly irresistible! 🤣

But while the streets were still light, we decided to take a walk—making this morning unhurried despite the time constraints. From the hotel, a less than fifteen-minute walk brought Sendai Asaichi gradually into view. A small market tucked away in a corner of the city, the air permeated with the scent of life. This Sendai morning market has been open since after World War II and continues to serve as the "city's central kitchen." Many vendors are locals who have passed down their businesses through generations. The clean, smooth concrete walkways, bathed in the morning sunlight casting shadows between stalls of fresh vegetables, fish, and styrofoam boxes from the harbor, created a scene that made us want to slow down our pace. And on the corner stood a small wooden shop with a long queue of people, called Umi no Te (海の神) —a sushi and oyster shop serving ingredients from the eastern Tohoku coast, sourcing their produce from the seas of the Tohoku region. Large grilled oysters (Dai Size) were served in their palm-sized shells. A variety of condiments were lined up on the table. Unfortunately, we were short on time, so we could only look, not try anything, because we had to rush back to check out. But upon arrival, we were met with a massive crowd queuing so long there was hardly any room to stand. We were too short on time to wait. We exchanged glances and immediately decided to change our plan… "Let's explore Mont-Bell first, then grab something to eat along the way." After crossing the pedestrian bridge and walking through the cool autumn breeze, our eyes caught sight of a sign. It showed "grilled beef tongue on a wooden tray." It looked rustic, but it seemed delicious. An instinct told us immediately… "This is it." Below was "another world." The atmosphere was like a secret society hidden underground, divided into two zones as if in different dimensions: Left zone: A raised Japanese-style platform where shoes must be removed. Low wooden tables are arranged on tatami mats. The customers are groups of young adults and working professionals after work. Laughter, clinking glasses, and the sizzling sound of meat on the grill mingle with a wisp of smoke. Right zone: Modern tables and chairs. Wooden partitions provide a slightly calmer atmosphere, ideal for groups who want to have a long conversation. A staff member asked, "We smoke in our restaurant, is that okay?" We exchanged glances, neither saying a word. We simply nodded, "Just a quick bite... it's alright." Due to the language barrier, we relied on a Japanese-only menu and had to ask the staff for recommendations. The result was an unforgettable experience. At first, I was drawn in by its teal, gift-box-like exterior. Upon entering, I discovered it was a specialty chocolate shop. The display case showcased a variety of chocolates, along with some desserts to choose from. The entire shop exuded a quiet and refined atmosphere. I purchased the "salted chocolate made with salt from Hon-Shiogama" and some madeleines. I couldn't resist trying one right outside the shop. The rich cocoa flavor paired with a hint of saltiness was perfectly balanced. After finishing it, I couldn't help but think: "If only there were a shop like this near my home ❤️." #November Destinations 2025 Rairei Gorge: A serendipitous encounter. After a walk from Akibo Onsen, I was looking for a place to rest when I unexpectedly discovered this spectacular rock formation carved by the Natori River. If you're staying at a Sakaan Ryokan, it's just a 10-minute walk to this tranquil gorge. Rairei Gorge, as its name suggests, is named for its numerous stacked boulders. It's a prime section of the Natori River, originating in the Futakuchi Valley of the Ou Mountains. Though small, it fully showcases the amazing natural landscape, with a scenic trail about 600 meters long stretching for about one kilometer. At this point, the Natori River narrows abruptly, becoming a rapid and roaring torrent; at other times, the flow weakens, forming deep blue pools, tranquil and profound. The bizarre rock formations stand side by side, and the surrounding cliffs seem meticulously designed by the gods. The scenic wonders along the way, such as "Hachiken Rock," "Shigure Waterfall," and "Tenfu Rock," are not to be missed. The view from the bridge is breathtaking; although it's just a glimpse of natural scenery, the unique rock formations and cliffs are truly spectacular. However, the steps are very steep, and the path is slippery in rainy weather, so extra caution is necessary when walking. The scenery before us is already satisfying, and it inspires endless anticipation for the stunning views in autumn with its vibrant red maple leaves or in spring with its blooming flowers and lush greenery!

When the water volume is high, it is magnificent and has been listed as a national scenic spot and one of the "100 Greatest Waterfalls in Japan". It is about a 20-minute drive from the Akiu Onsen area. You can first enjoy the panoramic view from the observation deck. You might even see Japanese people strolling leisurely in high heels. For students or tourists with bus passes, this trip to get close to nature not only saves them the hassle of transportation but also saves on their budget. This was a truly romantic and fulfilling journey, filled with fluffy snow and a sense of well-being. So, what did our 5-day, 4-night itinerary look like? Let's take a look!!! Day 1: On our first day from Sendai to Fukushima, we chose to stay near Higashiyama Onsen. We then continued to Inawashiro Lake, continuing on to Ouchi-Juku, a charming village. Nearby, we also found To-no Hetsuri, where we stayed at Niko Ryokan. Day 2: On the morning of the second day, we headed straight to the romantic train at Tadami Line Viewpoint. The view was stunning. We spent a lot of time there. Then we headed to Tsurugajo Castle. Day 3: On the third day, we traveled to Yamagata City to visit the Zao Ropeway at Zao Sanroku Station. Kaminoyama Castle is a must-see. For dessert, we recommend Yamagata Pudding Sweets & Cafe. Afterward, we visited the adorable Zao Fox Village. Our accommodation was the lovely Hotel Arimakan, and for dinner, we had a yakiniku restaurant, 笑福 (ショウフク). Day 4: On the fourth morning, we went to Ginzan Onsen, which we spent a lot of time at. Near the station, there’s a café called Sanbon Coffee. It opens early, so it’s a great spot for breakfast. Their breakfast is Western-style with toast and coffee. The butter and jam are delicious, the porcelain is beautiful, and the atmosphere is fantastic.

Getting There: Sendai Station Must-See Attraction: Beef Tongue Street Recommended Restaurant: Sotetsu Inn Must-Try Foods: Beef Tongue, Edamame Shopping Guide: Sendai Station is surrounded by numerous department stores and shopping streets. There's a beef tongue street just upstairs from the station, with six restaurants in total, but due to time constraints, I only tried four. I tried the famous Rikyu and Zenjiro, and Date, who claims to be a Sendai native. My family recommended Kisuke, too. My personal ranking would be Date, Zenjiro, Kisuke, and Rikyu. Each has its own unique flavors and side dishes. It's definitely worth the visit and convenient.

It is a Shingon sect temple dedicated to Acala. I came to Sendai to eat beef tongue (gyutan). This is no exaggeration! The gyutan in Sendai is the best in Japan. If you eat it here, you won't find it anywhere else. LOL We went to "Tanya Zenjirou Sendai." I've been to three branches: 1. The branch near Sendai Station (search for Tanya Zenjirou) 2. The branch inside Sendai Station (search for Zenjiro Sendai Station Gyutan Dori) 3. The branch a little further away (search for Sendai Tanya Zenjirou Minamimachi-dori Branch) *This branch has the fewest customers. It's usually crowded. If you have time, wait in line. It's worth the wait! It's incredibly delicious! The grilled tongue here is large, juicy, and incredibly delicious. It's grilled to perfection and the flavor is amazing. When you bite into it, your eyes will pop out of your head. I'm so happy! If you order a set, it comes with rice and soup. And I recommend pairing it with beer!
