2024 Seoul Travel Guide: Must-see attractions, popular food, hotels, transportation routes (updated in October)
Seoul is the capital city of South Korea. The temples and palaces of this city tell a long and storied history. The magnificent natural landscape and modern skyscrapers merge together to form a city which is both young and cultured. Gyeongbokgung and Changdeokgung Palaces are ancient palaces, while Bukchon Hanok Village and Namsangol Hanok Village are well-preserved traditional Korean villages. Seoul is a shopping paradise. In Myeong-dong, Dongdaemun Market, Sinsa-dong and Samcheong-dong, you can find all kinds of cutting-edge fashions, including clothing, jewelry and make-up. Once night falls, Seoul is even more magnificent. Climb atop the YTN Seoul Tower to feast your eyes on the city's glittering nightscape. The Han River is the background of many beloved Korean soap operas. Seoul's delicious food is not to be missed. Bibimbap, kimchi and Samgyetang (Korean ginseng chicken soup) are all delicious in their own right.

Good Cafes to Visit During Autumn in Korea
If you visit Korea during the autumn season, a popular destination for viewing the changing leaves is Samcheong-dong Street. This long street is lined with many charming cafes and galleries, and ginkgo trees are planted along one side of the road. One must-visit spot during this time is Jinseon Cafe. The view from the rooftop is amazing, and it's a great place to take lots of photos.
Come to Seoul Forest and enjoy an art experience that refreshes all five senses!
Sumsei Terrarium (섬세이테라리움) is located on the busiest street of Seoul Forest. This five-story art experience space is meticulously crafted by the renowned Korean creative brand 'SUMSEI (섬세이)'.
Each floor combines different natural elements to create a unique sensory atmosphere, allowing visitors to reawaken their perception of the world through these sensory experiences. From stones, sand, air, trees, water to light, each element brings different sensory stimuli, enabling us to let go of preconceived notions and rediscover the charm of nature. Among the many experiences, my favorite is the 'Black Out' experience on the first floor. Here, we are required to let go of our usual senses and feel our way forward, which is both a bit scary and thrilling. After visiting all the floors, you can head to the rest area on the fourth floor to redeem a cup of tea and some snacks.
Throughout the entire experience, due to the small number of people, you can leisurely appreciate every detail and take photos to record everything. I highly recommend it to everyone. If you want to enjoy a unique sensory journey, this place is definitely not to be missed.
You need to make an online reservation in advance (reservations open 7 days prior), so plan your time accordingly. The online reservation is done through a Google form. Once the reservation is successful, a staff member will confirm via email. You can pay on-site upon arrival!

Fresh air and smell of pine trees in Bukhansan forest
Bukhansan national park is a massive area with trails of different difficulty levels. And while you need to be relatively fit to hike up to the mountain tops - it is not necessarily at all to make outing to Bukhasan park exhausting if you not in the mood for a serious hiking day.
Lower levels are a beautiful forest area with all sorts of trees with pine trees being my personal favorite. There are numerous Buddhist temples sitting in the midst pf forest to visit.
Tip: night hiking is forbidden.
One more tip: don't forget your mosquito spray!

💞Reasons to Recommend: Air is fresh, all trails are well marked, place is serene and tranquil. Lots of easy trails if you feel just like walking in a forest rather than hiking.

Delicious Soufflé Pancakes at Andamiro Pancake.

Fall colors finally showing at Bukhasan mountain!
Seoul finally starts to show fall colors and ginko trees are changing to yellow and maple trees - to red. It is perfect time for hiking cause weather is chilly but not cold yet, so sweating is tolerable when you walk uphill.
Any hike in Seoul is great but for the moment higher places are showing more colors, so Bukhasan National Park is just perfect! Absolutely stunning colorful forest as a reward for 2+ hours hiking uphill.
Park is huge with lots of trails from easy to difficult, just choose your level. Bring water and snacks. Bring a jacket cause while it is humid and warm in the forest, it is windy and cold at the tophill.
Most hikes can be done in running shoes and no special equipment needed. Just go and enjoy!

🏖️Ambiance/Facilities: just a few people during weekdays, weekends may be very crowded and not that enjoyable.
There are a few toilets here and there and resting areas with roofs to provide shelter from the rain.
Before start of the path to the peak - vending machines with drinks.
And at the entrance to the park you can get a map and stamp it.

Starfield Library in Seoul
Starfield Library is a highly popular spot in Seoul, South Korea. This dreamy library has been featured in many Korean dramas, making it a pilgrimage site for K-drama fans.
Located within the Coex Mall in Seoul, the library is very conveniently situated. You can easily reach it by taking the subway to Samseong Station and following the signs.
Upon entering the library, you'll be amazed by the towering bookshelves and the high ceilings. The natural light pouring in from the ceiling creates a beautiful scene. Immersed in the world of books, you can occasionally look up to admire the interior, and you'll be captivated by the grandeur and atmosphere of the place.
The light through the ceiling changes with time, making both day and night equally charming and perfect for photos. When I visited during the day, even though the books were in Korean and I couldn't read them, I felt the warm atmosphere of everyone reading under the sunlight.

Capture the autumn vibes with photos at Sky Park.
For those looking for a place filled with autumn atmosphere and silver grass, we recommend 'Sky Park'. It's a famous spot for silver grass, sunrise, and sunset.
Visit around 5 PM to take photos with the silver grass, enjoy the sunset, and see the night view of the Han River. It's a perfect way to complete your day. The silver grass is beautiful, and there are many photo zones where you can take amazing pictures.
🇰🇷 Fall for Autumn
#fallcolors #100WaysOfTravel
This Daiso outlet in Hongdae is very famous among tourists because it is an entire building selling Daiso items. You will have to take lift to go all the way up then take the stairs down to shop at different levels. There are many outlets around Seoul and if an item is sold out then you can easily hunt for it at another outlet. Daiso in Seoul is always refreshing their decoration and popular items since there are different seasons here so they have to sell the trending items. Their decorations for fall season is very well stocked and you can transfer any areas to have a nicer and fuller colours for fall. So instead of waiting for the trees to change colour, you can come over to Daiso and get related items to set up decorations.

London Bagels are a hit in Korea.
🗓️Recommended Itinerary: London Bagel Museum
Address: 33 Eonju-ro 168-gil, Gangnam-gu, Seoul, South Korea
Business Hours: 8:00 AM - 6:00 PM
Transportation: Seoul Subway Suin-Bundang Line, Apgujeong Rodeo Station, Exit 5
I ordered the sweet onion cream cheese and some plain bagels (with additional spreads). The spreads and soups are highly recommended, but the portions are too large to finish. Although the sweet onion cream cheese is a signature item, I personally think you can only eat a quarter of it at a time, otherwise it gets a bit overwhelming.
World Heritage Site Changdeokgung Palace and Secret garden (shhhh!)
Changgyeonggung and Changdeokgung Palaces and Secret garden will be free entrance if you wear a traditional hanbok (which you surely should cause I think I enjoyed hanbok experience more than the palaces themselves,.. girls be girls I guess!)
The place is massive and can easily take a few hours to explore. This complex is much less crowded than Gyeongbokgung Palace, so it is much more pleasant to my liking (architecture wise if you aren't an anthropologist or historian - you'll see very little difference).
It is said online that Secret Garden is by reservation only but lady at the entrance just waved us in once she saw us in hanboks.
There is a vending machine for drinks at one place but Id recommend to take some water and even snacks with you.
Tip: these palaces and Secret Garden are closed on Monday!
Id say this one will be my first choice to what palace to visit in Seoul.

Seoul Shop Exploration: Seochon - The Café Even Timothée Chalamet Visits
Seoul. Seochon|Edition Denmark
This time, I made sure to visit the café that even Timothée Chalamet made a special trip to when he was in Seoul — Edition Denmark in Seochon. The entire store features a minimalist design with Nordic white and wood tones, creating a fresh and comfortable atmosphere. The seating is limited, but this small and exquisite space makes it feel especially cozy. They also have their own brand, Edition Kenya Original, which offers a variety of beautiful and highly purchasable merchandise 😊
I took away a cup of fruit tea from A.C. Perch’s Thehandel this time. The taste was really great, with a light fruit flavor that was neither bitter nor astringent.
If you enjoy spending a relaxing afternoon in a sunlit environment, this place is definitely worth a visit!

Visiting Gyeongbokgung Palace in a Korean traditional dress
One of the things that I normally would deem as "way too touristy " and yet happy that I did in Seoul - is visiting Gyeongbokgung Palace while wearing traditional Korean clothing called hanbok.
This promotes by the government and those who rent a hanbok may enter palaces in Seoul for free - so, it is indeed a cultural thing here.
There are plenty of hambok rentals around Gyeongbokgung Palace, so it is a no brainer.
The palace itself is beautiful and quite crowded by the main entrance. However, if you walk a bit further from the main gates - it becomes quite empty and enjoyable... And perfect to take lots of pictures in hanbok without any strangers in the frame!
Tip 1: hanbok is made of polyester, so it's hot. Save this experience for moderate weather.
Tip 2: there is not much shade at Gyeongbokgung Palace, so take an umbrella or use lots of sunscreen if it's sunny.
Tip 3: there is a coffee place right at the premises with quite decent tea options.

Sanqingdong, South Korea to experience the atmosphere of autumn
#koreatrip
First of all, come to Sanqingdong, South Korea to experience the atmosphere of autumn. Take a break from your busy schedule and take a walk in Sanqingdong city. It's sunny every day now, rebellious and hot. Wearing a coat makes you sweat. Dear sons in Korea, come and check in quickly (if it's too late, all the ginkgo leaves will fall off). Come to Korea for a business trip. Wang Zhan has to say that the ginkgo leaves in Sanqingdong really have a super strong and perfect atmosphere. Autumn has already been seen in a Korean drama. Two days ago, the temperature dropped to the point of difference. Send me to Korea for a business trip. Sanqingdong | Ginkgo trees | Atmosphere surround me in autumn | Seoul
Don't go to crowded Myeongdong anymore, here are two other great shopping spots in Seoul.
In Seoul, Hannam-dong and Seongsu-dong have become my favorite shopping destinations. Hannam-dong attracts me with its unique artistic atmosphere. While strolling around, I discovered a niche bag store called Hotel Anoetic💼. The bags in the store are unique and full of design sense, making it hard for me to resist. After picking out a favorite bag, I continued my shopping journey.
Additionally, I visited Seongsu-dong, where the popular coffee shop Fritz Coffee is already well-known. ☕️ As I walked into the shop, the rich aroma of coffee greeted me. I ordered a signature coffee, sat by the window, and enjoyed the street view outside, savoring the tranquility and comfort.
🛍️These two places, with their distinctive commercial streets, made me feel the fashion and charm of Seoul.
Seoul Must-Visit: Anguk Station Dotori Garden Acorn Cafe | Retro Style | Ghibli
This forest-themed cafe's Instagram photos were so captivating that I just had to include it in my itinerary 🤣
We planned to have afternoon tea there at 2:30 pm, and luckily, we only had to wait for 15 minutes to get a table.
The restaurant has a dimly lit, forest-retro atmosphere. The staff guided us upstairs to drop off our bags, then we went back down to order. We ordered two yogurts and two small cakes for the two of us, and we had to carry the food upstairs ourselves.
Overall, the food was good, but the yogurt was very filling. I recommend sharing one yogurt and adding some desserts for two people; otherwise, you might need to pack the leftovers 😅

Visit Seoul in the Spring
Visiting Seoul in the spring was a magical experience. The city was covered in blooming flowers, especially cherry blossoms, which added a special beauty to the streets and parks.
The atmosphere was refreshing, and walking through Cheonggyecheon Park, where flowers were blooming everywhere, was delightful. Various events and festivals were held to welcome the spring.
I also visited Changdeokgung Palace, which was even more enchanting this season. The scenery around the palace was stunning and added a romantic touch to the visit.
Tasting fresh seasonal dishes was a delicious experience of Korean cuisine.
Visit Seoul in the spring to enjoy the natural beauty and festive atmosphere. It's an unforgettable experience! 🌸🌼

A Visit to Gyeongbokgung Palace
My visit to Gyeongbokgung Palace in Seoul was truly an unforgettable experience.
Before entering the palace, I was pleasantly surprised to catch the changing of the guard ceremony. Witnessing this traditional cultural display firsthand was awe-inspiring, and the entire process was solemn and dignified, giving me a profound sense of Korea's rich history. Despite the scorching weather and the discomfort of the intense sun, the enthusiasm of the visitors remained undiminished. Everywhere I looked, I saw tourists dressed in hanbok, many of whom rented the traditional attire specifically to capture the cultural ambiance in photos. Although I didn't dress up, I was still deeply immersed in the historical atmosphere, feeling as if I had traveled back to the Joseon Dynasty. The grandeur and historical ambiance of Gyeongbokgung Palace undoubtedly made this trip even more enriching and exciting.
A Day Trip to Seongsu-dong, Seoul
Seongsu-dong in Seoul is a community full of local charm. Today, I'm sharing my pocket itinerary for a one-day trip to Seongsu-dong!
1. Cafe Onion
Cafe Onion is located in Seongsu-dong, Seoul, and is a coffee shop with an industrial theme. This café was converted from an old metal factory, retaining its original red brick walls and rusty iron doors, creating a unique nostalgic atmosphere.
Cafe Onion is famous for its unique industrial design and delicious bread. The bread in the store is made by the renowned bakery Bread 05. I particularly recommend their Pandoro bread, which looks like a small mountain covered with white powdered sugar, perfect for enjoying with coffee. Additionally, the second floor and terrace area of the café provide excellent photo spots, allowing you to enjoy the food while taking in the scenery of Seongsu-dong.
📍Address: 277-135, Seongsu-dong 2-ga, Seongdong-gu, Seoul (서울특별시 성동구 성수동2가 277-135)
🕰️Business Hours: Monday to Friday 08:00-22:00, Weekends 10:00-22:00
2. Dior Pop Up Store
The Dior Pop Up Store is located in Seongsu-dong and was opened to celebrate the 2022 Fall Women's Fashion Show held in Seoul. The design of this store is inspired by Dior's flagship store at 30 Avenue Montaigne in Paris, blending French romance with modernity.
The exterior of the Dior Pop Up Store features metal mesh and transparent glass, resembling a theater surrounded by a beautiful garden that combines Korean plants with French garden elements. Inside, the store showcases Dior's latest fashion collections, including the Dior Union women's wear and Book Tote Room bags. Additionally, there is a Café Dior inside, offering a romantic rose garden view, making it a perfect spot for photos.
📍Address: 302-11, Seongsu-dong 2-ga, Seongdong-gu, Seoul (서울특별시 성동구 성수동2가 302-11)
🕰️Business Hours: Daily 12:00-20:00
3. Handmade Shoe Street
Seongsu-dong Handmade Shoe Street is the largest handmade shoe industry cluster in Seoul, gathering about 70% of Korea's handmade shoe enterprises, making it the heart of Korea's handmade shoe manufacturing.
Handmade Shoe Street retains the appearance of many old factories, full of vintage charm. The handmade shoe stores here offer custom services, allowing visitors to order unique leather shoes according to their needs. Additionally, there are many cafés and galleries converted from old factories nearby, allowing you to enjoy a leisurely coffee time while shopping.
📍Address: 15, Yeonmujang 7-gil, Seongdong-gu, Seoul (서울특별시 성동구 연무장7길 15)
A brand new hotel in Seoul opened in 2023.
This hotel opened in April 2023. The rooms are clean and beautiful. The gym is fully equipped, and the trendy pool is open but requires an additional purchase when booking your stay. The breakfast is also good, offering a buffet with both Western and Korean themes. There are many things to do around the area, so even if you live in Seoul, I recommend coming here for a vacation.
Yongsan Station offers various activities such as shopping, movies, and cultural events. At Mujium in the Amorepacific office building, you can see high-quality paid exhibitions. Yongsan Park is nearby, and the National Museum of Korea has various free and paid exhibitions. You can ride a bike to the Han River or take a 5-minute train ride to Itaewon from the nearby subway station.
There are many things to do around the area, so even if you have stayed at some special hotels in Seoul before, I recommend coming here for a vacation.
Value-for-Money Design Hotel
We stayed at this hotel for 4 nights. Although it is not far from the main tourist attractions, it is conveniently located near the Cheongnyangni Station, which is a major departure point for airport buses, three metropolitan subway lines, and long-distance trains to eastern Korea. The station is just a 5-8 minute walk away. There is a large Lotte Department Store above the nearby train station, and two 24-hour convenience stores in the vicinity.
The hotel is very modern, new, and clean, with comprehensive facilities. The quality of the bed, pillows, and duvet is excellent. Surprisingly, even though our room did not include breakfast, we were offered a simple breakfast for free, which was a very hospitable gesture. The staff were very helpful and polite.
Korean street food 🥘
#eatlikealocal
My trip to Seoul was unforgettable, especially when it came to Korean street food! Wandering through Myeongdong, the lively night market scene was a dream for food lovers. From crispy hotteok (sweet pancakes) to spicy tteokbokki (rice cakes), the variety of flavors is insane! Each dish costs anywhere from ₩1,000 to ₩5,000 (about $1-$4), making it affordable to try a little bit of everything.
One of my favorites was the odeng (fish cake skewers) served with hot broth—perfect for a chilly evening. And the Korean fried chicken? Unreal! Sweet, spicy, and crispy, it’s nothing like what you get back home. After feasting, I took a walk to Namsan Tower, just a short trip away, to enjoy the night views of Seoul. Eating my way through the street stalls was honestly one of the best parts of my trip to Korea! 🍜🍢🌶️

Favorite Seoul Accommodation
This is my third time in Seoul, and we had a pleasant experience at Roynet. We arrived in Seoul around 8 AM. Although check-in time was 2 PM, the hotel generously allowed us to store our luggage in the lobby while we went out for brunch. Check-in was very timely, and we encountered no issues. The receptionists were very friendly, and we could communicate with them easily.
The room was spacious and well-equipped. We particularly liked the fabric spray provided in the room. The bed was comfortable, and the bathroom was clean, with the best shampoo. But the best part was the automatic toilet and bathtub. I liked that the toilet was separated from the shower area and even included a small sink for convenience.
The location was excellent, just a 3-minute walk to the subway station entrance, with many bus stops nearby. There was also a Twosome café downstairs, an Olive Young across the building, and two convenience stores within walking distance.
The hotel staff were very warm and polite, and if I visit Seoul again, I will definitely stay here again!
