We're not skiers, but we've been to the Rosa Khutor resort twice. We especially like it in the summer. The air is clean, there aren't many people (or maybe we were just lucky), and the hotels are adequate. We stayed for 3-5 days. Longer stays would be boring (in my opinion), but you can spend part of your vacation actively: take the cable car up the mountains, ride the toboggan run, hike the trails, and enjoy the beauty of the mountains. In the evening, you can sit in a café on the waterfront. There's also a water park, casino, and other entertainment nearby. We split our Sochi vacation between the mountains and the sea, so there was no need to go to the sea (we later booked a hotel by the sea), but if necessary, you can get to the sea by train or take buses from the hotels. The resort has grocery stores (also at the crossroads), cafes and restaurants, a "Vkusno" (a local specialty), pharmacies, clothing stores, and sporting goods stores. #Sochi #RosaKhutor #Cable Car

Sochi's stunning Bogatyr Castle Hotel, nestled between the mountains and the sea, is considered prime real estate in Chinese Feng Shui! From the Rose Valley ski town to the site of the Sochi Winter Olympics opening ceremony. We stayed at the most beautiful castle hotel here, overlooking the city's coastline, listening to the roaring cars on the F1 track, and watching the playgrounds perfect for kids—truly breathtaking scenery in the Sochi development zone! Opposite the castle hotel is the modern seaside MANTERA SUPREME SEASIDE hotel. Upon entering, we were greeted with a delicious welcome cold drink from reception. After a brief tour and introduction, we strolled around the large courtyard where a treasured tree is protected under a glass dome, giving a sense of guarding the home! The ground-level view only shows a partial scene, but from the upper floors of these two hotels, you can see the cityscape of Sochi and the Black Sea. Watching snow-capped mountains from the sea and clouds and sea from the mountains truly brings the scenery to life! Gazing from afar, sipping coffee, and chatting during a break is simply wonderful. Unlike the high mountain snow areas, the weather here is mild and cool. We quickly headed to the amusement park to enjoy the most thrilling giant pendulum and roller coaster rides, leaving our awe and screams in this Winter Olympic city of Sochi!

Stalin's Former Residence. This Stalin Jungle Villa, built in 1936, has stood guard in this forested mountain area for 90 years. The natural jungle and high mountains provide excellent protection for the villa, acting like a natural barrier. Previously, the yard was paved with stones to prevent intrusions. Any sound would trigger an immediate response. According to the on-site guide, although there have been some incidents before, they were well prevented, and everything remained safe and normal. In Stalin's courtyard, looking at the dense trees, breathing in the fresh air brought by the rain, and listening to waves of visitors whispering, it feels as if every blade of grass and tree is a scene from the last century. Only the people have changed; visitors come here to pay tribute and consider deep experience as part of their remembrance. Inside the villa, you can see the study, bedroom, reception room, sentry office, indoor swimming pool, dining room, and other public areas. Photos of Stalin with his family, friends, and colleagues serve as the best clues to recalling his life experiences. There are also several photos capturing moments when he met and communicated with Chairman Mao, preserving those memories in time. At the entrance, a performer impersonating Stalin sits quietly. Some visitors pay to take photos with him and occasionally exchange a few words. This is perhaps one of the few interactive experiences at Stalin's former residence. It is worth mentioning that the villa also sells the same type of high mountain green tea that Stalin once drank, which you might want to take some of. Stalin actually has two former residences. Besides the jungle sanatorium villa in Sochi, there is also a memorial museum in Gori, Georgia, where he was born. That museum also holds memories of gifts exchanged between Chairman Mao and Stalin during their friendship and communication.

For ease of planning, we'll divide the region into three main clusters: Adler (Sirius), Krasnaya Polyana, and Central Sochi. I visited Sochi as a child, then during the COVID year, and then two years ago. I remember my first visit to Sochi – it was a small village nestled in the hills, and now it's the country's main seaside resort and mountain resort. 1. Adler and Sirius (Coastal Cluster) This is where the Olympic legacy and the best modern embankments are concentrated. Olympic Park. See the Fisht, Shayba, and Bolshoi stadiums. The main spectacle is the dancing fountains in the Olympic cauldron (the show usually starts in the evening, the schedule varies seasonally). Sochi Park. Russian Disneyland. A huge amusement park themed after Russian fairy tales. Ideal for families with children and adrenaline junkies (the Quantum Leap and Zmey Gorynych roller coasters). Imeretinskaya Embankment: The longest (7 km) and well-maintained promenade area with dedicated bike paths. There are no breakwaters or railway along the shore, creating a feeling of spaciousness. 2. Krasnaya Polyana Even if you don't ski or snowboard, the views and fresh air are worth the climb. The cluster consists of three independent resorts: Rosa Khutor: This is the most popular. Turkey gently connects the continents of Europe and Asia with a single strait, just like the city’s name, Istanbul. “Bosphorus” sounds a bit exotic and tongue-twisting, yet it hides the most unique geographical miracle. The Bosphorus Strait is 31.5 kilometers long, with a maximum width of only 3.7 kilometers and a narrowest point of just 747 meters. It is famously known as the “throat of the world.” Since ancient times, it has been the only passage from the Black Sea countries to the Mediterranean. On both shores, from the Ottoman Empire’s palaces and Rumeli Fortress—thousand-year-old relics—to Istanbul’s upscale neighborhoods and the bridges spanning the strait, layers of history unfold, making this Bosphorus cruise the most iconic travel experience in Istanbul. This strait has never been just a geographical boundary; it is a millennium-old crossroads of Eastern and Western culture, history, and geopolitics. The harbor square is crowded with shops and tourists, the buildings along the coast bathed in golden sunset light, and even the wind carries a romantic atmosphere. Today, there are three bridges over the strait, each with its own name and history. Standing on the ship looking up at this bridge, I feel an indescribable emotion—smallness, yet pride—that humanity has truly connected two continents. A white line runs down the center of the bridge deck; west of the line is Europe, east is Asia. Standing on the cruise deck, the Galata Tower and Golden Horn are on the left in Europe, and the Anatolian coast is on the right in Asia. The wind blows through the strait, carrying the essence of both continents. This marvelous feeling of “stepping into two continents” is beyond words. Speaking of Turkey, it’s a country hard to sum up in a few sentences. Ninety-seven percent of its territory lies in Asia, yet it has always yearned to integrate with Europe; it is a crossroads where Eastern and Western civilizations have collided for thousands of years, yet it forever lingers between East and West. The Bosphorus Strait is the most vivid footnote to this contradiction and fusion. As the ship sails through this vital waterway, I recall a story etched in the memories of our people: the “Varyag” warship, purchased long ago, was blocked by Turkey here for a year and a half and only allowed to pass through the strait under Greece’s guarantee. From being trapped in the Black Sea to rebirth, this stretch of water has witnessed our perseverance and hardships. Our perfect June in Sochi 🌊🏔️ If you think Sochi is all about beaches, you simply haven't seen it in June! We allocated five days for our trip, and it was the perfect quick recharge. Weather and atmosphere: June is the "golden time." The sweltering heat hasn't yet set in, the air is fresh (24–26°C), and the sea is already beginning to warm up gently. The city is literally immersed in greenery and flowers. Our 5-day itinerary: Day 1-2: Coastal Sochi. We strolled along the embankment, stopped by the Seaport for some aesthetically pleasing photos, and Navaginskaya Street (the local "Arbat" with palm trees). Day 3: Krasnaya Polyana (Mountain delight!). This was the highlight of the entire trip. We took the cable cars to the peak. The contrast was incredible: 25 degrees below, and snow still lay on the peaks above! The air was pure enough to drink. Day 4-5: Strolls through the Dendrarium and Southern Cultures parks, followed by a relaxing beach getaway (dolphins swam right up to the shore, it's no myth!), buying churchkhela at the market, and a farewell dinner overlooking the sunset. Tips for future adventurers: Bring a windbreaker to Polyana! Even if it's hot below, it can be cool and windy at the top. Comfortable shoes. You'll be hiking a lot in the mountains. Food. After the New Year holidays, I decided to treat my aunt and mom to a trip to Krasnaya Polyana in January 2026. The prices for flights to St. Petersburg on Aeroflot were a pleasant surprise. We took a Yandex taxi from Sochi Airport, resisting the temptation of taxi drivers at the airport exit. The price was 2,377 rubles for a Comfort+ package. We booked a hotel for four days in advance through Trip.com so we could get some fresh air and show my family how much things have changed since their youth. We stayed at the 4* Snega Hotel. It's a decent hotel; choose one with a mountain view. The spa is included and opens until 10 PM. The breakfasts were excellent. A huge plus is the free cable car ride to Rosa Khutor for those aged 70+—or, more accurately, the cost is 1 ruble. I recommend starting your tour from the very top; it offers beautiful views and allows for lots of memorable photos. I won't list everything, I think everyone already knows it. My family enjoyed the vacation, especially the trip to the casino in Krasnaya Polyana. It was a first for the active pensioners. Our vacation didn't end there.
