Hawaiian Islands - WWII Era HAWAII Dollar
Back in the day, during WWII in fact, Hawaii was in the news. Most of us know something about Pearl Harbor and the start of the Pacific War. But here's some history about the currency of the day - The HAWAII OVERPRINT $1 Silver Certificate.
As a security measure, the 1935 $1 Silver Certificate used in Hawaii was 'overstruck' with the word 'HAWAII' twice on the obverse (front) and boldly across the reverse (back), and reissued in the 1940s as wartime currency. The notes occasionally surface from old servicemen's collections.
Locally, Hawaiian Islands Stamp and Coin has several available. Don Metcalf, shop owner, is a longtime numismatic expert and generally happy to share stories of Hawaiiana. The shop is located in the Waterfront Towers complex in Honolulu- check it out!

Pocket Change Türkiye Style
We travel to and thru Türkiye in the way to Asia and back to Europe. So many sites and sights to see, explore and appreciate...some of our favs are Konya, Göreme and Side.
Konya has everything Rumi - become a Sufi and better human being. Rumi said we'd find him in the hearts of the Sufis!
Göreme is in Cappadocia and has amazing caves and fairy chimneys from ancient volcanic activity.
Side (see-day) is an ancient city on the Mediterranean between modern day Antalya and Alanya. Explore the vast ruins and enjoy the beach scene. Our apartment had an outdoor kitchen - fun - we cooked vegan!
The currency of Türkiye is Lirasi and coinage Kurus (shown above). Prices are fair and exchange rates favorable to foreign travelers.

Memories of India Past
We've been to India numerous times. The experience impacts one every time - Taj Mahal, Rishikesh Yoga, Goa beaches. The old currency notes, though obsolete still hold value for the collector and for the memories.
Rupees from 1 to 500 - even the old 1000 Rupees (replaced in 2016) - we rode the trains from Amritsar to Shimla to Jaipur and Jaisalmer - 2nd class sleeper as I recall for about 100 Rupees in the old days.
