🇵🇹 Douro River Boat Tour
We had a memorable boat tour experience along the Douro River as part of our port wine tour from Porto. It is a fantastic way to explore the stunning landscapes of the Douro Valley, a UNESCO World Heritage site famous for its terraced vineyards and wine production.
The boat tour started at Pinhão, a charming town in the heart of the Douro Valley which is a popular starting point for many boat tours. We were welcomed with breathtaking landscapes of terraced vineyards, olive groves, and picturesque villages lining the riverbanks as the boat cruised along the Douro River. It is definitely a must-do activity if you're travelling in northern Portugal!

🇵🇹 The Fantastic World of Portuguese Can
We chanced upon an interesting shop, The Fantastic World of Portuguese Can, while taking a stroll along the riverfront promenade by the Douro River in Vila Nova de Gaia. The moment we set foot in the shop, the vibrant interior made us feel like we were in a circus! Countless colourful cans of sardines stacked from floor to ceiling is definitely a sight to behold. The main highlight of the shop is ''timeless sardines collection'' in which a year together with important event that happened in that year is printed on the tin. The collection contains every year from 1916 to the present year. The Fantastic World of Portuguese Can has a few branches across Portugal.

🇵🇹 Crossing Luís I Bridge
Located at the mouth of Douro River, Porto, the second largest city in Portugal, is one of my favourite cities in the world. The Dom Luís I Bridge (Ponte de Dom Luís I) is a double-deck metal arch bridge that spans the Douro River between Porto and Vila Nova de Gaia. It is an integral part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Old City Porto. A visit to Porto is not complete without crossing this beautiful bridge on foot. In fact, I crossed it multiples during my stay in Vila Nova de Gaia.
Completed in 1886, the bridge's 172 metres span was then the longest of its type in the world. The lower deck is currently open to public transport, taxis, cyclists and pedestrians. It is accessible from Av. de Diogo Leite (Vila Nova de Gaia side) and Cais da Ribeira (Porto side). The upper deck has a length of 385 meters and is more than 10 floors above the lower deck. It is used for the Porto metro and also has a pedestrian walkway that offers an spectacular view of the Douro River and the buildings on both sides of the river banks. The upper deck is accessible from Jardim do Morro (Vila Nova de Gaia side) and Av. Vimara Peres (Porto side, near to Porto Cathedral).

🇵🇹 Lovely Italian Restaurant in Gaia
During our stay in Vila Nova de Gaia, we found an amazing Italian restaurant in the hub of port wine to satisfy our carvings for pizzas and pastas. Mamma Bella Cais de Gaia is a hidden gem located a short walk away from the Douro River Front. The beautifully decorated restaurant has both indoors and outdoors seating. The pizzas and pastas we ordered were freshly prepared and the cook was really generous with ingredients. All the dishes came with complimentary garlic bread. Each main dish costs around 10 euros. We also loved the homemade sangria with port wine and even ordered two jugs!

Some moments from Porto 🇵🇹
#thingstodo
Porto is one of my favourite city in Portugal. This is the second largest city in Portugal after lisbon. The historic centre of Porto is wonderful with the old town buildings and the view over there is amazing. In the recent trip to there, I spent some time to capture some pictures with my camera. The street over there looks historical and when I walked by the street, I got inspiration of how they built the house and I felt really interested in those! The Luis 1 Bridge is also the iconic sight in Porto and you have to see it!

Calem Porto wine 🇵🇹
#thingstodo
Calem is one of the famous port wine located in Porto . This was found in 1859. In the recent trip to Porto, I am glad that I made the right choice to visit this port wine village and tasted different years of port wine. The oldest one is 40 years ago, and it tasted really different than the other I had before in my life. The taste is different and full of the taste of dried grape. Inside of the building, they showed lots of port wine with different years . So , if you have the chance to try them, try them all and let’s see which’s best.

🇵🇹 Authentic Portuguese Food @ Gaia
#2024wish
We had a hearty lunch in a family run Portuguese restaurant after the train ride from Lisbon to Porto. The restaurant, Frango Sobre Rodas, is located just outside Vila Nova de Gaia train station. This humble little restaurant serves generous serving of traditional Portuguese dishes at very affordable prices. Most of the dishes are under 10 euros. Apparently this neighbourhood restaurant is quite popular among the locals. The main highlight of the food we ordered is francesinha, a Portuguese sandwich originated from Porto, which consists of toasted bread covered in rich sauce made from tomato and beer. The service staff was attentive and tried her best to introduce the dishes in English. 👍

🇵🇹 Beautiful Republic Square @ Braga
#2024wish
Braga is the fifth largest city in Portugal and an hour away from Porto. Located on the western side of Braga's historic centre, the republic square is one of the most important public spaces in Braga. The lively square is surrounded by cafes and restaurants. The most iconic structure is the water fountain in the middle of the square, which is converted to house a giant Christmas tree during winter. There is also a beautiful park (Jardim da Avenida Central) where you can find a 3-storey McDonald's and a children's playground next to it. There are also many historic buildings around the square including the Catholic church Congregados Basilica next to Department of Music of the University of Minho.

Hilton Porto Gaia 🇵🇹
#freehotelstay
My stay at the Hilton Porto Gaia in Portugal was a delightful experience. Situated on the banks of the Douro River in Vila Nova de Gaia, this hotel offers a tranquil retreat while being just a short stroll from the bustling city of Porto.
The hotel's modern design and elegant décor create a welcoming atmosphere. My room was spacious, beautifully appointed, and featured a balcony with stunning river views. It was a serene oasis to return to after a day of exploring.
The staff at Hilton Porto Gaia provided exceptional service, always ready to assist with a warm smile. The on-site dining options, including the Rabelo Restaurant, served delicious Portuguese cuisine.
With the nearby port wine cellars and easy access to Porto's historic center, this hotel is a fantastic choice for those looking to explore the rich culture and flavors of the region. In summary, Hilton Porto Gaia offers a perfect blend of comfort and convenience in a picturesque setting. #portugal #porto
Walk along the Atlantic Coastline 🇵🇹 Foz do Douro
#citywalk
Foz do Douro is a district in Porto located at the mouth of the Douro River facing the Atlantic Ocean. We took tram no. 1 from the first stop at Infante (next to Church of Saint Francis) to the last stop at Passeio Alegre (next to Jardim do Passeio Alegre). From there we walked leisurely along the picturesque coastline until Avenida Brasil.
We passed by Farol de Felgueiras lighthouse and
Fortaleza de São João da Foz, a 16th-century fort, before reaching the beaches. The Atlantic coastline in Foz comprises of small sandy beaches nestled between granite outcrops. We enjoyed watching the huge Atlantic waves break onto the magnificent outcrops. The outcrops are ancient rocks about 300 million years old formed due to erosion of sea waves.
We had lunch at Restaurante Praia da Luz by Ingleses Beach while enjoying the ocean view.

Magical Porto
I traveled to Porto expecting to drink lots of port wines, and although there is plenty of port (and cork souvenirs), I found much more, including the birthplace of Hogwarts! In Porto you can find the cafe and bookstore where JK Rowling began drafting the Harry Potter series (although there are such long lines and waitlists that I couldn’t get in), and you will find students wearing the black capes, which inspired the Hogwarts uniforms. Additionally, walking around Porto, you will find beautiful blue tile artwork and amazing food - don’t miss the famous Portuguese egg tarts!

The lovely Mercado do Bolhão!
The Mercado do Bolhão in Porto, Portugal is a bustling market that is a must-visit for food enthusiasts. It offers a wide selection of regional items, including fresh fruits, meats, fish, cheeses, and baked goods. The market takes pride in showcasing traditional goods from local producers, reflecting the distinctive flavors and freshness of the region. Visitors can find a variety of delicious cheeses, handmade with care by regional producers, as well as local meats and seafood from the neighboring Atlantic Ocean. The market also offers a cultural experience, with a long history dating back to the late 19th century, providing a window into the local way of life. The aroma of freshly baked goods, including pastries and cakes, fills the air, offering local favorites such as pão de ló (sponge cake) and pastel de nata (Portuguese custard tart). Foodies must visit Bolhao market in Porto
One of my favourite things to do when traveling is trying local foods! Mercado do Bolhao is centrally located in Porto and offers a wide range of snacks from chocolates to pies!
The market has been recently renovated to feature a more modern look and has lifts for disabled visitors. I highly recommend trying the Portuguese egg tarts and custard pastries, washed down with a coffee!

The best view in Porto
The Jardim do Morro is the best view in Porto and conveniently located near the most famous double deck bridge, Luiz I. you will find many couples and families come here to enjoy the glorious sunset.
