Qiniangshan Park, on Dapeng Peninsula in Shenzhen, is a great day trip from anywhere in the Pearl River Delta. The climb to the top is a good challenge and the view from the top is brilliant. The park is huge and there are many trails to choose from. Right now there are many wildflowers over the mountain.
Dapeng has many other attractions such as beaches and an ancient fortress, so it makes a good weekend getaway.

Dapeng Fortress is a square military fort in Shenzhen. Many buildings date to the Qing Dynasty, with a few survivals from the Ming. The narrow cobbled streets and quaint stone houses are home to many cafés and small shops. A former grainery is home to a small museum about the Chinese navy; it has few displays and no English (free). You can go to the top of the East Gate (东门,Dōngmen) for a good view as well as a 3D map of the old town inside the gatehouse.
Outside the old town there is also a temple (东山寺, Dongshansi) and a botanical garden (40 yuan), which we didn't visit this time.
The fortress is not very big but there are many narrow streets so you can spend a couple of hours wandering around. You could easily combine a visit here with a trip to one of the beaches on the Dapeng Peninsula.
Cost: Free entry; typical tourist area prices for food and drinks
Good for: history lovers, photography, coffeeshops
Accessibility: Cobblestone streets and stone steps; some areas not wheelchair accessible
