Summit Restaurant & Bar, Mount Coo-Tha
The first thing that caught my eye when I entered the restaurant was how perfectly laid out the chairs and tables were. I also really liked the consistent hues of white and brown, coupled with the warm glow of the indoor lights, it made the interior feel really cosy and down-to-earth. And fairy lights! One can hardly go wrong with fairy lights.
We chose to sit outdoors to get a panoramic view of the city. The warm evening glow of the sun, the cool wind in our hair, the beautiful view in front of us, it was a wonderful moment to just be present and soak it all in.
Really glad we decided to have dinner here because the food was done well and tasted great, the ambience was romantic and calming, and the view from the mountain top just added a sense of wonder to the whole experience! Sadly, the menu items were rather pricey for the portions. Also, it took us quite a while to get the staff’s attention for service on a few occasions.

Malt House, Surfers Paradise (Gold Coast)
The restaurant interior was rather bland and unimpressive, only the bar area seemed to be where a bit more thought was put into. The vibe I got was a very sterile and functional one, which was further emphasized by the young waitresses’ perfunctory service.
Fortunately, this restaurant’s saving grace came in the form of a more experienced staff member (I couldn’t be sure if she was actually the owner), a sweet older lady who was warm and enthusiastic in her manner towards us.
The food tasted pretty average, I felt we could’ve gotten better-tasting food elsewhere for lower prices compared to what we were paying here. I’m hazarding a guess that maybe people come here more for the alcohol than the food.

Betty’s Burgers & Concrete Co. Restaurant
Betty’s Burgers was my favourite restaurant of the whole trip and I’m so glad that reviewers online led us here. They have many branches all over Australia so it seems like they’re doing really well, and rightfully so! The branch we dined at was the one at Chevron Renaissance Shopping Centre in Surfers Paradise and boy, were we in for some good food and great value.
Their burgers were juicy, flavourful and well-seasoned without being overly salty. Betty’s secret sauce added a creamy and tangy lift to the whole dish. The onion rings were lightly battered and fried, with the onions being cooked through so there wasn’t that pungent, stinging attack on my tastebuds when I bit into them.
The best part was, we paid a total of $26 for our entire dinner! A lot more affordable than some of the other restaurants we dined at, plus with better-tasting food. Definitely a bang for your buck.

Hyde Paradiso Restaurant, Surfers Paradise
If you’re looking for a restaurant with an up-close ocean view, great ambience, good food and live music, Hyde Paradiso is the place to be.
Getting there was a little bit tricky (maybe because I was expecting it to be a standalone restaurant on the ground floor), and I almost walked right by it. Turns out, the restaurant is located on the second floor of the Peppers Soul Hotel.
The food was awesome, the ambience was great, the staff were courteous, the restaurant overlooks the ocean, what’s not to love? In terms of value, however, it wasn’t fantastic as the prices here were steeper than usual and because of the crowds that day, we couldn’t get to fully enjoy the ocean view from the balcony seats (which I was really looking forward to!). Maybe a prior reservation would have solved the issue. But overall, it was a nice experience.

As our exploration of food continues in Shanghai, here we landed in an Australian-Italian fusion cuisine restaurant - Henkes. Situated in Jingan, right inside the mall next to Jingan kerry centre; I would recommend this place has one of the perfectly made pork ribs. I have never had Australian cuisine before, but this place make me long for more Australian restaurants to come to Shanghai. We ordered the pork ribs, salmon and few other italian style dishes. Most importantly don't forget to try their pizza, as it comes without tomato sauce (different from traditional) it taste quite unique style of pizza.

Master Tom’s Espresso Burger Bar, Brisbane

What initially caught my attention was the interesting cabana-style outdoor seating, as well as the choice of colour and furnishings that gave off a chill beach vibe. It seemed like a nice cosy cafe, with some sofa seats lining the outside area along the street. The ambience was really quite alluring as a casual dining space. In addition, the prices on the menu were pretty reasonable.
Besides the affordable prices, everything else was really unimpressive. The food was the most lacking aspect of this experience, it was pretty much a let’s-get-this-over-and-done-with type of meal. Because of how the food tasted, I couldn’t really enjoy the chill ambience the cafe had to offer. All I was thinking about was where else we could grab some yummier bites to make up for this unappetizing lunch.

Bumbles Cafe, Surfers Paradise (Gold Coast)
This quaint little cafe nestled in the middle of a residential neighbourhood was the perfect place to have a quiet lunch. Although it took a bit of walking to get to (under the scorching afternoon sun, no less), we were rewarded with a nice view of the river that ran parallel to the road the cafe was on!
I really liked the ambience of the cafe, despite the largely white-coloured interior and the seemingly haphazard way they arranged the photos and frames on the walls. The cafe exuded a familiar, inviting, homey vibe, pretty much like walking into a friend’s house that you’ve been to for the hundredth time. The staff were pleasant too and were welcoming in their demeanour (:
The food was quite decent! It was yummy and reasonably priced, plus the service was good. Other than the slight inaccessibility of the cafe by public transport, I remember my experience here to be a comforting and relaxing one, like chicken noodle soup on a cold day.

Surrey Hills Grocer
A relatively new grocer and dining spot in the far flung west of Singapore. One can find Australian produce (fresh and frozen, dried and packaged) as well as cafe food. The cafe area is small and if you intend to come in a bigger group, do call up and see if they can do reservation. Saccharomyces Beer Cafe, Fish Lane (Brisbane)
Saccharomyces Beer Cafe was one of the many interesting-looking places along Fish Lane, an arts precinct that brings together culture, entertainment, and food and drink.
I was really digging the hipster vibe of the cafe and the stretch of street it was on. The interior decor was fun and eccentric, food and prices were also pretty decent, although I thought the food could be improved on a little more. Awesome staff and service here too. All in all, this was a funky place to hang out at and I would’ve come back to experience the gorgeous lights and nightlife here if it weren’t for our evening flight home!
