Visit Tancheng Ancient City in Linyi and travel back a thousand years to discover its historical charm 📍Location: East end of Huangting Road, Tancheng County, Linyi City, Shandong Province ⏰Opening Hours: Open from Oct 8–Oct 31, 9:00 AM–6:00 PM (Last entry at 5:30 PM) 🚗Transportation: Driving is recommended 🌟Highlights: · Tancheng Ancient City is an ancient-style building complex covering an area of about 376 mu, with a total investment of over 600 million yuan. It consists of four parts: the main city, east city, west city, and south city. · Major attractions within the ancient city include the ancient city gates, city walls, moat, main street, and central plaza. · The architecture and decorations of the ancient city reflect a strong traditional style, making it perfect for photos. · At night, the ancient city is brilliantly lit, with sparkling lights along the waterways, giving it the charm of a Jiangnan water town. · In the evening, you can taste various delicacies and snacks in the ancient city, and purchase some local specialty products. 📌Practical Information: · Comfortable shoes are recommended as there is a lot of walking. · You may want to bring some snacks and water, as items inside can be expensive. · Please be mindful of your safety when visiting the ancient city at night, as it can be crowded. · Learning about the history and stories of the ancient city in advance will make your visit more interesting.

Before going to Wuxi, I thought it would be a typical Jiangnan water town—small bridges, flowing water, oil-paper umbrellas, a gentle place of "peace and quiet." But after 4 days, I was stunned. The prices, the breeze, and the old flavors hidden in the alleys completely "shattered" my spending habits—some money was well spent, some was wasted. This guide is based on my own experience; if you're planning a trip, just follow this plan👇 🎒 Before you go, get these things sorted Getting there: Book your high-speed train to "Wuxi Station." Once you arrive, taking Metro Line 1 or a taxi is convenient. ⚠️ Do not book to Wuxi East Station; it's nearly 20 km away from the city center, and you'll regret it the moment you arrive. Metro Line 1 is very convenient within the city. For Jinkui Park, take Line 1 to Citizen Center Station and walk for a few minutes. It also goes directly to Nanchan Temple and Sanyang Plaza. What to wear: In October–November, temperatures in Wuxi range from 15–25℃. There's a temperature difference of 5–6 degrees between morning and evening, so a light jacket is enough. Wear light-colored clothing (white or beige is best); it pairs perfectly with the golden ginkgo trees and the blue Taihu Lake, making for great photos. Make sure to wear comfortable shoes; the old town and water towns are all paved with stone slabs, so leave the high heels at home. Where to stay: · For convenient shopping: Around Sanyang Plaza. It's easy to transfer between Metro Lines 1 and 2, and it's not far from any attraction. Rates are around 300+ per night. · For canal night views: Hotels near Nanchang Street. The ancient canal is right downstairs, and the atmosphere is incredible when the lights come on at night. · To stay in a scenic area: Homestays near Nianhuawan or Lingshan. However, prices double, and it's not convenient to go out for dinner at night unless you have a generous budget. ⚠️ Don't just look at expensive accommodations in scenic areas. Budget hotels in the Liangxi District of the city center are around 220 per night and only a 10-minute drive from Nanchang Street. Why not save that money for snacks instead? 🗺️ Follow this route to avoid detours and pitfalls 2 days, 1 night: Classic Old Town Route Day 1: Huishan Ancient Town (morning: enjoy osmanthus flowers and visit ancestral halls) → Jichang Garden (see red maples and garden light/shadows) → Nanchan Temple (lunch: snacks) → Nanchang Street + Qingming Bridge (evening: canal night views) Day 2: Yuantouzhu (Turtle Head Isle) (morning: take a boat to see the lake view; in autumn, there are white spirits—seagulls—that have traveled from afar) → Lihu Bridge Park (evening: watch the sunset) → Return 3 days, 2 nights: In-depth Autumn Appreciation Route Day 1: Take your time exploring Huishan Ancient Town. Mid-October to early November is the best time to enjoy osmanthus flowers. The century-old osmanthus trees in Jichang Garden fill the entire garden with fragrance. The silver osmanthus tree in Jichang Garden is a rarity; you have to get close to the flower clusters to smell the faint, delicate scent. In the afternoon, visit the Fan Wenzheng Gong Ancestral Hall and the Gu Kejiu Ancestral Hall to experience the spirit of the literati. Day 2: Go to Yuantouzhu in the morning. From mid-November to early December, the red sequoia forests and maple leaves are at their most beautiful. The Taihu Lake scenery paired with black-headed gulls looks like an oil painting. In the afternoon, go to Guanshe Villa, right next to Yuantouzhu. It's free, less crowded, and has equally expansive views. The wooden boardwalk around the lake extends along the water's surface, with withered lotus leaves against distant mountains—cold, serene, and photogenic. In the evening, go to the Shibawan Scenic Belt. The reeds are turning yellow, and the lake breeze blows the reed flowers, making them sway. At sunset, the entire shoreline is dyed a warm golden color. Day 3: Three Kingdoms and Water Margin City (the red walls of the Song Palace paired with ginkgo trees are stunning) → Jinkui Park (free maple viewing, direct access via Metro Line 1) → Return 🍜 As for food, I only recommend what I've bought again Must-try main dishes: · Wuxi braised pork ribs: Sanfengqiao's braised pork ribs are a local institution. They are rich in sauce, with tender meat falling off the bone, and are much more authentic than the 60+ portion you'll find in scenic areas. If you want to buy local specialties, go to the old shops near Nanchan Temple; they are 30% cheaper than at Yuantouzhu and can be vacuum-packed. · Xiaolongbao (soup dumplings): Don't just stick to Wangxingji. Xishengyuan has more locals, tastes fresher, and is full of soup. · Stuffed fried gluten: A home-cooked dish for Wuxi locals. The gluten absorbs the meat juices, and every bite is pure satisfaction. Don't miss these snacks (Daoxiang Road is a treasure trove): · Laoniu savory soy milk with brown sugar flatbread: Featured on "Breakfast China," this savory soy milk paired with brown sugar flatbread is a unique sweet-and-savory combination found only in Wuxi. You can start a perfect day for 12. · Auntie Xu's egg pancake: Soft, chewy pancake skin with secret sweet bean sauce. The classic combination of double eggs and pork tenderloin is worth the wait. · Xiaodong bone broth wontons: Duck intestine, duck liver, duck blood, and small "bubble" wontons all in one bowl—incredibly fresh and delicious. · Daoxiang salt and pepper pork strips: 15 for a double combo. Crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, with a fragrant salt, pepper, and garlic aroma. Eat them while hot to satisfy your cravings. Late-night snack recommendation: Restaurants along the canal on Nanchang Street. When the lanterns light up at night, sitting by the river eating late-night snacks while watching the night view creates an incredible atmosphere. 📸 These photo spots are highly photogenic Shanshui East Road: In early autumn, the goldenrain trees spread their tall branches, blending the green of late summer, the yellow of early autumn, and the deepening red into the same canopy. Driving under the trees feels like entering a flowing autumn corridor. Take bus 9, 77, or 95 and get off at Xushe Road Station. Xinguang Road Overpass: September to October is the peak flowering and fruiting period for the goldenrain trees. Standing by the railing of the overpass walkway to frame your shot, the orange overpass and the sea of goldenrain flowers appear in the same frame. Every shot is a healing, blockbuster-worthy photo. I recommend visiting on a sunny afternoon between 3:00–5:00 PM for excellent soft lighting. Capturing the moment of falling flowers doubles the atmosphere. Baota Bridge: A classic spot for photographing the ancient pagoda and the canal in the same frame. The old pagoda body and the canal water surface are both in the shot, capturing the full charm of Jiangnan. Jichang Garden: Red maples climb along the white walls, forming a natural frame with the dark tiles. Walking through it, every step is a new scene. It looks great no matter how you shoot it, especially by the waterside pavilions. Yuantouzhu: The light is best between 3:00–5:00 PM. The sunset glow dyes the lake surface a warm golden color, and every snap is a wallpaper-worthy photo. ⚠️ Pitfall avoidance guide (a summary of hard-earned lessons) About tickets: Don't buy scenic area tickets on-site. Buy Yuantouzhu tickets online a day in advance; it's cheaper and you won't have to queue. Huishan Ancient Town is free to enter, but you need to buy a separate ticket for Jichang Garden inside. Don't trust the joint tickets offered by touts at the entrance; they might be a trap. About parking: There are many one-way streets in the old town. Roadside parking spaces near Nanchang Street are basically a free-for-all. It's better to just park in a nearby parking lot; 8 per hour is more cost-effective than circling for half an hour. During peak season at Yuantouzhu, there are still spots if you arrive before 8:00 AM; if you're late, you'll have to park in a temporary lot a kilometer away. About buying specialties: You can haggle for Huishan clay figurines in the old shops in Huishan Ancient Town; the same items in the scenic area are much more expensive. For tea snacks (sanzi), choose shops in the city center; they are less crowded and cheaper. About dining: A portion of braised pork ribs in the scenic area is over 60, and the taste isn't as authentic as in the old restaurants in the city. You can eat very well on Daoxiang Road for an average of 20 per person; Laoniu savory soy milk with brown sugar flatbread is only 12. About transportation: When driving in the old town, don't trust the "shortest route" on navigation apps; it's easy to end up on the wrong one-way street. Just take the inner ring expressway; although it's a bit of a detour, it's less likely to be congested and you won't get traffic violations. About weather: It's windy by the lake in November, especially when taking a boat at Yuantouzhu, so remember to bring a jacket. Just bring steamed buns or bread to feed the black-headed gulls; you don't need to pay high prices for the feed sold in the scenic area. In a nutshell: Wuxi's charm is the kind hidden in the everyday life of the city. The scent of osmanthus is free, the red maples in Jichang Garden are worth the 70 ticket price, and breakfast on Daoxiang Road is 12 a bowl. Go in October–November when it's not too hot and not too crowded, the ginkgo trees are just turning golden, and the lake breeze is just right. Don't rush your itinerary; take your time to stroll and eat—that's the only way to do justice to this small Jiangnan city

Experience the autumn beauty of Yimeng Mountain! First, visit the China Ginkgo Garden in Chongfang Town, Tancheng County. The garden covers over 2,000 acres and boasts more than 1.1 million ginkgo trees of 98 varieties. The oldest ginkgo tree is 500 years old. In late autumn, the trees turn a vibrant golden yellow, like a golden carpet. After your visit, you can choose to stay at the nearby Linyi Zhongwei Ronghua Hotel (Railway Station MixC Branch). This hotel is located in the center of Linyi City, only 3 kilometers from the railway station, and offers an elegant environment and complete facilities. 📍 Address: No. 121 Xinhua Road

It takes about an hour to drive from downtown Linyi to Tancheng. I originally just wanted to see the legendary "King of Ginkgo," but I was truly stunned by this old tree. 📍 Tancheng Ginkgo Ancient Plum Garden The garden isn't huge, but as soon as you walk in, time seems to slow down. The centerpiece is the 3,000-year-old male ginkgo tree, which locals call the "Old Sacred Tree." Looking up from beneath it, the trunk is so thick that several people couldn't wrap their arms around it. It is said to have been planted by Tanzi, the ruler of the State of Tan during the Western Zhou Dynasty. Interestingly, this tree is monoecious, meaning it can bear fruit despite being a male tree. There is a bronze statue of the "King of Ginkgo" in front of the tree and a Maitreya Buddha statue behind it; locals seem to worship it as a sacred tree. The garden also houses Guangfu Temple, which was first built during the Zhengguang period of the Northern Wei Dynasty, around 521 AD—that's over 1,500 years ago. The temple was rebuilt later near the original site, and it remains a quiet, simple, and active place of worship. 🌸 But the biggest surprise this time was running into the plum blossom season I visited at the end of February and happened to catch over a dozen varieties in full bloom, including red plum, "Flying Dragon" plum, "Yang Guifei," cinnabar, and green calyx. I came for the ginkgo, but the plum blossoms ended up stealing the show. As I entered the garden in the afternoon, a subtle fragrance washed over me. The red plums looked like fire, the pink ones like clouds, and the white ones like snow. The gnarled branches of the ancient plum trees crisscrossed, framing the curved corridors and latticed windows of the garden. When the wind blew, petals trembled and drifted down, landing on my shoulders and the bluestone path, creating a light pink trail. The best part was seeing the 3,000-year-old ginkgo and the plum blossoms in the same frame. The gnarled, ancient ginkgo branches were still bare, while the tender, newly bloomed plum blossoms stood beside them—a reconciliation of ruggedness and tenderness in a single shot. Standing under the tree, the sweet scent of plum blossoms lingering in the air, I was reminded of the line: "Sparse shadows cast across the clear, shallow water; a subtle fragrance drifts in the evening moonlight." 📸 Tips for photographing plum blossoms · Light-colored clothing works best; white, beige, or light blue create a gentle contrast with the plum blossoms. · Use a wide aperture for close-ups of the blossoms to blur the old branches in the background, making the texture of the petals look so clear they seem to breathe. · For portraits, the light is softest in the early morning or afternoon. Standing in the direction where the branches extend, a side profile or a downward gaze looks very natural. · Be sure to get a shot from the spot under the old ginkgo tree—the combination of the 3,000-year-old tree and the new spring flowers is the most popular photo for social media. 🎫 Admission: 30 yuan 🕐 Opening hours: 8:30 AM–4:00 PM 📌 Recommended visit: 2–3 hours 🌸 Plum blossom season: Mid-February to mid-March 🍜 After enjoying the flowers, Linyi's food is the main event Sa soup—you haven't really been to Linyi if you haven't had a bowl of Sa soup. It's made by simmering chicken, beef, or mutton with wheat and pepper. The soup is dark and rich, with a fresh, spicy kick that warms you up instantly. Dip a freshly fried dough stick (youtiao) into it—it's incredible. Linyi stir-fried chicken—the obsession Linyi locals have with stir-fried chicken is deep-rooted. It's said that "no chicken can leave Linyi alive." They use a young rooster about a year old, stir-fried with sweet bean sauce, green peppers, and dried chili peppers, resulting in firm, chewy meat. The most authentic way to eat it is to dip a pancake into the chicken broth; the pancake soaks up all the flavor and tastes even better than the meat. Yimeng lamb soup—the broth is milky white, made by simmering lamb meat and offal together. It's fresh and savory without being gamey. A bowl on a chilly day warms you from your stomach to your toes. 📝 A few final thoughts Before coming, I thought this was just a spot to see an old tree. Once I arrived, I realized that all of Tancheng is the "Hometown of Ginkgo in China," with ginkgo trees everywhere along the roads. After finishing my walk in the garden, I found a small restaurant in the county to have some Sa soup and stir-fried chicken. It cost about 40–50 yuan per person, and I left completely satisfied. Catching the plum blossom season was an unexpected delight. It must be even more stunning when the ginkgo leaves turn yellow, but even outside of the blooming season, this 3,000-year-old tree is worth a special trip—some things just can't be captured in photos.

After spending a few days in Tancheng, I was looking for a relaxing place, and I happened to see an advertisement for the Jiulongquan Scenic Area. So, I decided to go on a whim, and following the navigation, I drove for a little over an hour to reach the scenic area. This scenic area is quite large, and it's part of the Tancheng National Forest Park. It includes attractions such as the Five Dragon Pools, the Nine Dragon Springs, and the Nine Dragon Mountain Temple. The towering ancient trees made me feel instantly like I was in a primeval forest. Strolling along the winding mountain paths, listening to the babbling of the springs, and breathing in the fresh air, I felt incredibly relaxed. The spring water was clear and sweet, gurgling along the cracks in the rocks. Walking along the path, the sounds of flowing water and birdsong mingled, creating a truly pleasant experience. After exploring, I got hungry and decided to try some local delicacies. Surprisingly, there was a large market near the Jiulongquan Scenic Area, offering a variety of snacks and local specialties. After trying several dishes, I found the food at the Linyi Zhongwei Ronghua Hotel (Wanxianghui Branch near the Railway Station) to be the most to my liking. Located at No. 121 Xinhua Road in the city center, the hotel boasts excellent transportation access. The hotel environment is clean and hygienic, and the service is warm and attentive. My room was spacious, bright, comfortable, and cozy. The hotel's dining was also quite good, offering a wide variety of local specialties at reasonable prices. After dinner, I continued exploring the scenic area for a while before returning to the hotel to rest. The next day, I packed my bags and prepared to leave for my next destination. Although I was a little reluctant to leave behind the natural scenery and delicious food, I was also excited about my next stop. After trying several dishes, I felt that the food at the Linyi Zhongwei Ronghua Hotel (Wanxianghui Branch near the Railway Station) was the most satisfying. The hotel is located at No. 121 Xinhua Road in the city center, making it very convenient to get around. Moreover, the hotel environment was clean and hygienic, and the service was warm and attentive. My room was spacious, bright, comfortable, and cozy. The hotel's dining was also quite good, offering a wide variety of local specialties. Moreover, the prices were reasonable, making it excellent value for money. After lunch, we continued exploring the scenic area for a while before returning to the hotel to rest. The next day, after waking up, I packed my bags and prepared to leave for my next destination. Although I was a little reluctant to leave behind the natural beauty and delicious food, I was also quite excited about my next stop.

One-day trip to Tancheng, Linyi | Step back in time at Matou Ancient Town and enjoy a 4-star buffet I was just looking for a weekend getaway in a new city, but I was completely blown away by Matou Ancient Town in Tancheng, Linyi! That rustic, grand sense of history is rare among other ancient towns in Shandong. After exploring, I headed to the Zhongwei Ronghua Hotel for a buffet—the perfect way to wrap up the trip. ✨ 🏘️ Matou Ancient Town Tourist Area 📍Address: S232, Tancheng County, Linyi City, Shandong Province 🕐Hours: Open year-round, 8:30 AM–5:30 PM (last entry at 5:00 PM) Honestly, I didn't have high expectations before arriving, but I was stunned the moment I entered the town. With its blue bricks, black tiles, old archways, and historic shops, every stone path is steeped in history. Walking through, you can almost hear the hustle and bustle of merchants from a century ago. The best part is that it hasn't been overly commercialized; many of the old buildings have retained their original charm, making every photo look like a professional shot. 📸 Crossing the main street, you'll find a small stage next to several towering ancient trees. Sitting in the shade and catching a breeze is incredibly relaxing. I recommend wearing traditional or artistic-style clothing—it makes for amazing photos! 🍽️ Zhongwei Ronghua Hotel (Linyi Railway Station MixC Branch) 📍Address: 121 Xinhua Road 🅿️Large parking lot and charging stations available, making it very convenient for those driving After exploring the town, I headed straight to the hotel for the buffet! I'd read reviews praising their service, and it lived up to the hype—I was greeted immediately upon arrival and offered welcome fruit and snacks. The buffet selection was so extensive, I had trouble deciding what to eat! 😋 Highly recommended: ✅ Lobster buffet (available on select holidays) ✅ Local specialties: Lamb soup, stir-fried chicken ✅ A wide variety of seafood, sashimi, and desserts Most importantly, the food was delicious! The stir-fried chicken, in particular, was rich in sauce and incredibly tender—I finished 3 bowls of rice with it. 🍚 The hotel also offers late-night porridge and casual snack sets, so you're covered even if you're still hungry later. 💡Practical tips 1. **Transportation**: Matou Ancient Town is in Tancheng County. Driving is recommended; it takes about 1 hour from downtown Linyi. Alternatively, take the high-speed train to Tancheng Station, then take a taxi for about 20 minutes. 2. **Time**: The town isn't large; 2–3 hours is enough for a leisurely stroll. Go in the afternoon when the light is softer for better photos. 3. **Hotel buffet**: It's recommended to call and book in advance, especially on holidays. If you don't want the buffet, their breakfast is also very rich. Guests staying at the hotel shouldn't miss the lamb soup and stir-fried chicken. 4. **Attire**: The ground in the ancient town is uneven, so wear comfortable sneakers. Dress comfortably for the hotel buffet so you can eat and drink at ease. 5. **Don't go to the hotel on an empty stomach**: The buffet is delicious, but drink a bowl of porridge first to warm your stomach, otherwise you might eat too fast and get an upset stomach (don't ask me how I know 😂). After this trip, I feel like Linyi is truly underrated. It has not only revolutionary history but also charming ancient towns and high-quality hotel service. If you're looking for a weekend getaway, this is a great choice!

Hidden along the banks of the Yi River, Matou Ancient Town was known as the "Little Shanghai" of Southern Shandong during the Ming and Qing dynasties. Its old streets are filled with the vibrant atmosphere of local life and historical imprints. From the North Water Gate tower, you can overlook the vast expanse of the Yi River. With the former sites of old merchant houses, the century-old Yuanxingyong shop, and grey brick houses, the town is full of nostalgic atmosphere. Strolling through the ancient streets, with their mottled old walls and vintage storefronts, is perfect for documentary-style travel photography. You must try the local delicacies here: Matou Chaopai, a flatbread baked over charcoal with a rich sesame aroma, paired with a bowl of hot Sa soup. Don't miss the intangible cultural heritage dumplings and roast chicken for a true taste of Tancheng. The town also houses the former site of the First Administrative Office of Southern Shandong, where you can experience its rich revolutionary history. There is no need to rush through crowds; just wander slowly through the alleys and embrace the town's leisurely pace. After exploring the ancient town, we recommend staying at Moshang Qingju Hotel. The hotel is clean and minimalist with attentive service. It is the perfect place to rest comfortably after a full day of sightseeing, making it convenient to continue exploring the rest of Tancheng's attractions.

The mountain canyons, unique rock formations, and dense forests are perfect for capturing atmospheric landscape photos, effortlessly creating a cool, cinematic vibe. Enjoy the views while immersing yourself in thousand-year-old military legends—a true delight for history buffs. Hiking in the mountains can be tiring, so we recommend wearing comfortable shoes and setting aside plenty of time to explore at your own pace. After your hike, return to the city and check into the Moshang Qingju Hotel. The hotel rooms are spacious and quiet, with all the amenities you need to wash away the fatigue of your hike, rest up, and prepare for your next adventure.

Tancheng's 4A-rated Zuidongfeng Tourist Area is a pastoral haven for escaping the city's hustle and bustle. Waves of wheat sway in the breeze, and winding trails lead the way. Everywhere you look, there are vibrant colors that make photos look great without any filters. Stroll through the fields, visit the wheat field art space, and experience intangible cultural heritage crafts like willow weaving and paper cutting for an immersive artistic experience. The open lawns are perfect for picnics and walks. Let the breeze through the wheat fields soothe away all your urban fatigue. Visit on a sunny day, where blue skies and white clouds complement the pastoral architecture, giving every photo an effortless, relaxed vibe. Get away from the city, immerse yourself in the countryside scenery, and embrace the slow life. After your visit, return to the city and check in to Moshang Qingju Hotel. The hotel boasts a prime location with convenient transportation. The rooms are clean and fresh—the perfect place to unwind after your pastoral adventure and get a good night's sleep.

I didn't bring my camera today, so I entered Shaohu Park from the south gate. The first thing I saw was the Wentong Pagoda, and I couldn't help but raise my phone. The pagoda has a yellow body and green eaves, with 7 stories and 8 sides, standing in the northwest corner of the ancient city of Huai'an, with the Grand Canal not far to the west. It was originally the Longxing Temple Pagoda, built by imperial decree in the second year of the Jinglong era of Emperor Zhongzong of the Tang Dynasty. It was initially 13 stories high and over 40 meters tall. It was rebuilt in the second year of the Chongzhen era of the Ming Dynasty and renamed Wentong Pagoda because of the Wentong Temple. To this day, many friends in Huai'an call it the cultural pulse of Huai'an. In the seventh year of the Kangxi era of the Qing Dynasty, which was 1668, a magnitude 8.5 earthquake occurred in Tancheng. Huai'an, hundreds of miles away, was also affected, and only 2 stories of the Wentong Pagoda remained. Although it was rebuilt later, it was not restored to its original 13-story structure, eventually becoming the 7-story pagoda we see today. The existing structure is also a renovation from the Qing Dynasty. In front of the pagoda lies a stone turtle carrying a stele. On the turtle's back, there is a flat base for the stele and a clear groove, but the stele itself has long since disappeared. What was originally carved on the stele and when it was erected are unclear today. A complete stele can naturally record history, but with the stele gone, only the stone turtle with an empty back remains. The nearby Stele Garden also houses temple steles, epitaphs, and stone carvings from various dynasties in Huai'an, but unfortunately, it was closed when I went today. Moving inward from Wentong Pagoda, passing through the Shenyi Gate and Qingqu Gate, Shaohu Lake truly unfolds before your eyes. Shaohu Lake is not a natural lake but a body of water left behind when soil was excavated to build the city of Huai'an during the Eastern Jin Dynasty. It is named for its curved shape, which resembles a ladle. Over the following thousand years, temples, Taoist monasteries, academies, and stele gardens were built along the lake, and in the past, there were the Ten Scenes of Shaohu. Inside the Big Bell Pavilion next to the Nine-Arch Bridge hangs a bronze bell from the Tiande era of the Jin Dynasty. The four characters "Long Live the Emperor" are still clear on the bell. This bell was cast in the third year of the Tiande era of the Jin Dynasty, which is 1151 AD. It was originally a ritual object at Yangshan Temple in Pizhou, but later, for unknown reasons, it ended up in Shanyang. In the sixth year of the Chenghua era of the Ming Dynasty, Chen Rui, the Commander-in-Chief of Water Transport and Earl of Pingjiang, oversaw its salvage from Guanjia Lake west of Huai'an city. It was then hung on the watchtower of the North Gate, Zhaozong Gate, to tell time, and was finally moved to Shaohu Lake. Shaohu Park has now been designated as a Rule of Law Culture Park, with many figures and allusions related to the rule of law arranged along the path. Looking at these later additions alone, they seem somewhat abrupt, but upon reaching the Shaohu Thatched Cottage, one realizes that this theme is not without foundation. The cottage was originally the Ruan family's private school. After Ruan Xuehao resigned from office and returned home, he converted it into the Jingyi Study for tutoring students. His students later added the Banxiang Study and Chunfeng Pavilion, gradually developing it into the famous Shaohu Academy of Huai'an. During Ruan Xuehao's tenure, the academy produced many successful candidates in the imperial examinations, and at the time, there was even a saying: "Entering the Shaohu Thatched Cottage to study is as easy as picking up a mustard seed to attain high official rank." In the 39th year of the Qianlong era, the Old Bakou of the Yellow River breached, and floodwaters inundated Huai'an city. The cottage was destroyed by the flood, but it was restored on the original site by his students the following year. Ruan Kuisheng, who rose to the position of Senior Vice Minister of the Ministry of Justice, served in the Ministry for over 20 years. He was familiar with legal codes, participated in the trial of major cases, and also took part in the compilation of the Siku Quanshu. He was very close to Ji Yun, and later invited Ji Yun to give lectures and write poems at the Shaohu Thatched Cottage, partly to revitalize the academy his father had left behind. If one were to trace the roots of the rule of law culture in the park today back to history, Ruan Kuisheng would be the most significant figure. The park is not large, but its meaning is profound.

🦞 Ronghua Hotel crayfish buffet guide Taste review: According to Ctrip travel photo users, there are at least four flavors of crayfish here: Spicy crayfish: classic style, moderate spiciness, with deeply flavorful meat. Garlic crayfish: rich garlic flavor, dip the meat in the sauce after eating for an amazing taste. Thirteen-spice crayfish: full of spices, perfect for those who like bold flavors. Salted egg yolk crayfish: the shell is coated with salted egg yolk sauce, great in both appearance and taste. Other dishes: Besides crayfish, the buffet also offers hot dishes, barbecue, desserts, and fruit. Highly recommend Linyi’s specialty fried chicken and pancakes for an authentic local experience. After eating your fill, Linyi has many great spots for photos. According to the Ctrip travel photo community, the following places are very photogenic: Linyi International Sculpture Park: a free urban art travel photo destination. The park is open 24 hours and features sculptures in various forms, making every shot a masterpiece. Linyi Riverside Park: an excellent spot to capture atmospheric photos along the Yi River. Especially from 4:30 PM to 7:00 PM at sunset, when golden sunlight shines on the water, perfect for photos. Linyi Baiyun Temple: a thousand-year-old ancient temple hidden on the tea bud mountain slope. With yellow walls and ancient halls, the peaceful environment is ideal for shooting photos with an ancient or Zen style. Calligraphy culture tour: visit the former residence of Wang Xizhi and feel the ancient ink charm by the ink-washing pool, a perfect place for ancient-style photos. Langya Ancient City: not only featuring ancient-style performances and stunning night lights but also a great place to experience Linyi’s history and culture. 🏨 Accommodation and itinerary tips Recommended stay: Ronghua Hotel itself is a very cost-effective choice. Also, Qinian Garden Hotel is a popular “hidden gem” on Ctrip travel photo, known for its natural wood forest style design and excellent photo environment. Itinerary combo: Some travelers shared a great combo: take photos during the day at Linyi’s version of “Anaya” (such as the Anaya Church on Tashan Mountain in Feixian County or the Drunken East Wind Village Art Inn in Tancheng County), then return to the city at noon to enjoy the crayfish buffet at Ronghua Hotel. This itinerary is praised as “perfect.”

On the land of Qilu, there once were a group of ancient Dongyi states. These small states and tribal civilizations lasted through the Xia, Shang, and Zhou dynasties, were conquered by Qi and Lu, and then faded into the dust of history. Seeing this historical exhibition at Shandong Museum reveals that the coastal area of Shandong also experienced a process of civilization and cultural integration. Almost every town has its own distant historical traces. ✅ About the ancient Dongyi states Shandong is the birthplace of Dongyi culture. Historically, many ancient Dongyi states existed here. Most of these states were founded by Dongyi tribes (such as descendants of Shaohao and Chiyou). They were active throughout Shandong during the Xia, Shang, and Zhou periods, later mostly annexed by the states of Qi and Lu, and eventually integrated into Huaxia civilization. 📌 State of Ni (Xiao Zhu state) Historical background: Originally the Dongyi "Er state" during the Xia and Shang periods. During the reign of King Xuan of the Western Zhou (798 BC), Zhu Yi’s second son Youfu (Zhu Fei) was enfeoffed in the former territory of the Er state, establishing the Ni state (often mistakenly called "Xiao Zhu state" or "Xiao Zhu Lou" because of its origin from Zhu state). It lasted about 537 years, spanning 15 generations, and was destroyed by the state of Chu in 261 BC. Location: Mainly in present-day Tengzhou, Shandong (early capital near Liangshui east of Tengcheng) and Shanting (mid to late capital at "Dongji"). 📌 State of Ju Historical background: Descended from the Dongyi Shaohao tribe, officially enfeoffed by the Zhou royal family in the early Western Zhou period (1046 BC) with Ziyuqi as ruler of Ju. The initial capital was Ji (now Jiaozhou), later moved to Ju (now Ju County). During the Spring and Autumn period, Ju was a strong eastern state, rivaling Qi and Lu, before being annexed by Qi in 412 BC. Location: Mainly in present-day Ju County, Jiaozhou, and southeastern Shandong. 📌 State of Lai (Donglai) Historical background: Founded by the Dongyi Lai tribe, its center before the Zhou dynasty was around present-day Changle and Linqu in Weifang, extending east to the coastal area of Huang County. Early Zhou period saw Lai competing with the newly enfeoffed Qi state (led by Jiang Taigong) for Yingqiu. Lai was defeated by Qi during the Spring and Autumn period, and the Duke of Lai was forced to move the capital to Huang County (Donglai). Lai was fully annexed by Qi in 567 BC. Location: Mainly in the northern Shandong Peninsula (Weifang, Yantai area). 📌 State of Xu (Xufang/Huaiyi) Historical background: A branch of the Dongyi Huaiyi tribe, existing since the Xia and Shang periods. Enfeoffed in the early Western Zhou, initially with the capital at Tancheng (now Tancheng, Shandong), later moved to Xuzhou and Sixian. Xu was strong during the Spring and Autumn period under King Xu Yan but was eventually destroyed by Chu. Location: Mainly in southern Shandong (Tancheng) and northern Jiangsu and Anhui. 📌 State of Yun Historical background: An ancient Dongyi tribal state from early Zhou times. Its capital was attacked and captured by Lu forces in 542 BC. Location: Mainly around Nanfang Town, Lanshan District, Linyi, Shandong. 📌 Other ancient Dongyi states Zhu state: An ancient Dongyi state, initially with its capital at Qufu, later moved to Zoucheng. It was a vassal of Lu and later divided into Ni, Lan, and other states. Lan state: One of the three states divided from Zhu, with its capital at Yangzhuang Tucheng, Tengzhou. Ji, Pi, Tan, Qi, and others: All ancient Dongyi states that once existed in Shandong, later successively annexed by the major states of Qi, Lu, and Chu. ✅ Check in to the museum’s Dongyi culture 📌 East of Huaxia — Dongyi culture exhibition from the Xia, Shang, and Zhou periods Location: 3rd floor, Exhibition Hall 15-1 Highlights: Over 110 artifacts including pottery, bronze, and bone and horn tools systematically trace the Dongyi culture’s journey from coexistence with Huaxia to integration into Huaxia civilization. Key exhibits: Include ritual vessels from the Yueshi culture shaped like zun, boats, and mushroom-shaped lids, as well as pottery from the Pearl Gate culture of the Shang and Zhou periods, showcasing the fusion of Dongyi and Central Plains cultures. 📌 Ju culture special exhibition Location: 1st floor, Exhibition Hall 3 Highlights: Focuses on the ancient Dongyi state of Ju, displaying over 240 artifacts such as inscribed pottery zun and bronze ritual vessels, illustrating Ju’s interaction with Qi and Lu cultures and the spirit behind "Never forget Ju." 📌 Dialogue with the eggshell black pottery high-stem cup Location: 3rd floor, Exhibition Hall 15-2 Highlights: Centered on the eggshell black pottery high-stem cup, compared with Majiayao painted pottery, demonstrating the peak of Dongyi pottery craftsmanship and revealing the unique aesthetics and technical achievements of Dongyi culture. ✅ Check-in tips 📌 Opening hours: Tuesday to Sunday, 9:00 AM–5:00 PM, last entry at 4:00 PM. For those who love mountains, rivers, and history, Tan Cheng Malingshan is the perfect choice! It is said to be the ancient battlefield of the Battle of Maling between Sun Bin and Pang Juan. The mountains stretch endlessly, the valleys are deep, and streams flow gently through the hills. In midsummer, the dense greenery provides natural shade, making it a perfect natural summer retreat with fresh air.
