Ukiha travel guide and discussion

Everyone goes to the same places, and I completely understand why—they're beautiful, iconic, and truly worth visiting. But Japan is so vast that you can almost always find a place with a similar vibe, but without the thousands of people around ✨ In this post, I've compiled my favorite alternatives: ⛩️ Instead of Fushimi Inari, there's Kifune Shrine. Same red torii, but the atmosphere is much calmer. ⛩️ As an alternative to Hie Shrine in Tokyo and Ukiha Inari in Fukuoka Prefecture, the torii literally descend from the hill overlooking the valley! 🎨 Instead of the Benesse Museum on Naoshima, there's the Teshima Art Museum on the neighboring island. Honestly, that's the one that impressed me the most. 🦍 Instead of Godzilla in Shinjuku, there's the huge King Kong in Shimokitazawa. Unexpected, but very photogenic. 🦌 Instead of Nara's deer, there are Miyajima's deer. They're much calmer, and the surrounding area boasts one of Japan's most beautiful views. 🗿 Instead of Kamakura's Buddha, there's the 120-meter Ushiku Daibutsu, just two hours from Tokyo. 🏯 Instead of Osaka Castle, there's Himeji Castle. The original 17th-century castle has been preserved here, not a post-war reconstruction. 🗻 Instead of Lake Kawaguchiko, there's Lake Motosu. This very view of Mount Fuji is depicted on the 1,000 yen bill. Of course, this doesn't mean popular places are bad. On the contrary, most of them have become famous for a reason. But if you want to see Japan from a deeper perspective and sometimes avoid the crowds, these alternatives may be even more interesting ❤️ What other places in Japan with similar vibes do you know? 👀

#February Destinations 2026 Looking up from the plains, the red torii gates of Ukiha Inari Shrine resemble a quiet yet powerful dragon, stretching layer upon layer along the hillside, passing through countryside, fields, and withered grass swaying in the wind, and also through people's long-held prayers for life. Standing in the center of the torii gate steps, the vast view of the Chikugo Plain unfolds before you, while beneath your feet lies the path of faith, simple yet awe-inspiring. This is not a bustling tourist shrine, but rather a place of protection for the local residents. The three main deities enshrined at the shrine are also very close to the lives of ordinary people: the first is Fushimi Inari Okami, symbolizing prosperous commerce, abundant harvests, and safe travels; the second is Oyama Zakumi of Matsuo Taisha Shrine in Kyoto, protecting sake brewing, health, and longevity; and the third is Sugawara no Michizane of Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine, protecting learning and adult growth. This combination of faiths seems to place the most important wishes of everyday life on this hillside. My favorite moment was when the bright red JR train and the torii gate echoed each other—as if this small town had remembered the railway, the fields, and the gods all in the same shade of red. 🚃❤️ 🚉Transportation Take the JR Kyudai Main Line to "Ukiha Station." From there, I recommend taking a taxi (about 10 minutes), or driving yourself. Walking uphill is a bit steep, but the breathtaking view of the entire plain interwoven with the red torii gates is well worth it. #UkihaInariShrine #Ukiha #KyushuTravel #FukuokaTravel #JapanHiddenGems #JapaneseShrines #Torii #ShrinePilgrimage #ChikugoHirano #StunningView #JRKyushu #JapanRailwayTravel #IndependentTravel #TripMoment

First stop in the morning was Tomonaga Pan for some freshly baked bread!! Then we headed to Okamoto-ya for their Hell-Steamed Pudding (honestly, I wasn't a fan 😌). While staying in Ukiha for two nights, I discovered Minoujip, a restaurant serving native chicken. This new restaurant opened in October 2023, but already has a 5.0 rating on Google. 😲 🚗 Location & Atmosphere About 2.5km from downtown Ukiha, it's a 5-minute rental car or 10-minute bike ride away. The restaurant is housed in a renovated traditional Japanese house nestled among rice paddies and fields, with ample parking. A complimentary blend of 15 ingredients and an oolong tea base is provided. 🫖 🍽 Menu & Prices Charcoal-grilled Native Chicken Set (serves 2 or more): Includes rice, soup, and dessert. 1,800 yen per person (~15,000 won) Additional vegetables: 500 yen Additional chicken: 1,000 yen (per person) Individuals: Grilled chicken skin and chicken gizzards each 800 yen (~7,000 won) Alcohol: Beer 700 yen, non-alcoholic beer 500 yen, shochu, sake, highball, plum wine, wine, and more. 📌 We only use native chickens raised for at least 75 days and with a blood content of at least 50% Japanese native breeds – only 1% of Japan's production! 🔥 Taste Review The chicken sizzles on the powerful grill, reminiscent of a lamb rib grill, and the sizzling sound will whet your appetite. The grilled chicken is dipped in salt, yuzu kosho, and rich soy sauce, and paired with grilled vegetables for a fantastic combination. 🤤 Free refills on rice. 🍚 + Mixing it with the raw egg soy sauce creates a whole new flavor. The chicken gizzard is a must-order! The chewy, savory texture is incredible. #AdventureMoment #Ukiha

The first meal in the small countryside town of Ukiha was at Fudoan, a beloved udon restaurant among locals. Located in a slightly remote area rather than the town center, you’ll need a rental car, bicycle, or taxi to get there. 🏠 The exterior looks like a converted traditional Japanese home, and as you pass through the charming entrance, you’ll find a variety of seating options, including floor seating, bar tables, and terrace seats. They even have high chairs for babies, making it a convenient spot for families 👶. 📜 The menu is simple with just five options: Kake Udon, Kitsune Udon, Niku Udon, Yudame Udon, and Bukkake Udon. The tempura sets are especially popular! 🦐🍗 You can choose between the "Ukiha Set" (vegetable-focused) and the "Fudoan Set" (shrimp + chicken). I ordered the refreshing Bukkake Udon, Kitsune Udon with fish cake, and the Fudoan Tempura Set. The chewy texture of the udon noodles was absolutely amazing 🤤. Paired with soft-boiled egg tempura and shrimp tempura, it was so delicious that I ended up ordering two more shrimp tempuras, haha.

#FukuokaSakura The private cherry blossom viewing spot in Fukuoka Prefecture - Hokkehara Flower Gardens of Myoho-ji Temple is located in Ukiha City, Fukuoka Prefecture, not far from JR Chikugo Yoshii Station. From Hakata Station, you need to first take the bus to Kurume Station, then transfer to Chikugoyoshi Station and walk or take the bus to the place. The most famous attraction in Hokkehara Gardens is the 10-meter-tall, 60-year-old Minobu weeping cherry tree, which blooms in mid-March. The cherry blossoms are like a waterfall, and it is a charming sight to admire them under a red umbrella, whether it is day or night. During the day, the spring scenery of yellow rapeseed flowers, pink cherry blossoms, and blue sky is very pleasing to the eye; once night falls, the lights are turned on and a completely different scene is presented. The swaying romantic night cherry blossoms make people feel as if they are in a dream. #Fukuoka #Hokkehara Flower Garden

This time, I went to visit Shiseido's factory in Ukiha, which is about an hour and a half by car from Fukuoka city on public roads! Shiseido factory tours are only held at three factories in the country! One of them is in Fukuoka! I think it's worth visiting when you're traveling to Fukuoka! The tour contents are · Explanation of the factory using project mapping · Inspection experience · Factory tour · Workshop (contents change depending on the month) The tour is divided into two parts per day, from 9:30 and 13:30, and each part is 120 minutes long! There is a lot to see, so the two hours go by in a flash ⚠️Factory tours are only available on weekdays! Reservations are required, and it is very popular, so reservations must be made 1-2 months in advance! The number of people is limited to 20 people per tour, so you can enjoy the factory tour at your own pace! The staff are very kind and take lots of photos! There are also several water servers in the building, which is a great touch! The age range of participants was from 20s to 60s, and there were also people with children, so it's a facility that can be enjoyed by a wide range of ages! At the end, we even received a souvenir, so it was a very satisfying experience 🫶 #FukuokaStrategy #GirlsTrip #FukuokaTrip #FukuokaTourism #Beauty

On a clear day, you can see Harazuru Onsen and the Amagi area, making it highly recommended🥰 ☽︎‪︎.*·̩͙☽︎‪︎.*·̩͙*·̩͙☽︎‪︎.*·̩͙☽︎‪︎.*·̩͙☽︎‪︎ⓘⓝⓕⓞ☽︎‪︎.*·̩͙☽︎‪︎.*·̩͙☽︎‪︎.*·̩͙☽︎‪︎.*·̩͙☽︎‪︎.*·̩͙ ⛩️Ukiha Inari Shrine 📌1513-9 Nagarekawa, Ukiha-machi, Ukiha-shi, Fukuoka Prefecture 🚗 About 15 minutes from Kyushu Expressway "Haki IC" 🚃 About 20 minutes on foot from JR Kyudai Main Line "Ukiha Station" 𖥧 𖥧 𖧧 ˒˒𖡼.𖤣𖥧 ⠜ 𖥧 𖥧 𖧧˒˒. ⓣⓗⓐⓝⓚ ⓨⓞⓤ 𖥧 𖥧 𖧧

There is a parking lot where you can park a few cars at the top, so I drove up there and enjoyed the view without climbing the stairs☺️The Chikugo Plain spreads out below, and the red torii gates and the view are wonderful, so I recommend it⛩️Ukiha Inari Shrine📍1513-9 Nagarekawa, Ukiha-cho, Ukiha City, Fukuoka Prefecture🅿️Available #100TravelStyle #ScenicSpot #UkihaInariShrine #Ukiha #FukuokaTrip #FukuokaTourism #Ukiha

"Tison" 📍1152-1 Takatori, Yoshii-cho, Ukiha-shi, Fukuoka Prefecture 🌙 Closed Thursdays and Fridays ⏰11:30-17:00 I went there for the first time in a while 🥹 🔖Seasonal parfait 980 yen 🔖Lemonade and soda mix 680 yen The fruit used this time was peach 🍑 The parfait changes depending on the season. First of all, the price is really reasonable! And yet the quality is perfect 🎀The peach variety used on this day was Hakuho 🍑Soft and juicy, the best 💕 The gelato inside was also homemade and very delicious 🤲 The lemon drink that I always order when it's available is fizzy 🍋I even ate the lemon slices ✨ Anyway, it was delicious, cute, and the best peach activity 🍑 It's run by a married couple, and the atmosphere is irresistible It's a gentle and relaxing space. Thank you for the meal 🎀 #besttrip2023 #Fukuokacafe #Ukihacafe #Fukuokabakery #Breadcafe #Fukuokalunch

A shortcake! I couldn't wait any longer so I rushed over 🍓 I love flowers and strawberries so much It's a god-level dessert ✨ The candied violas are too cute 💕︎ And the sponge is fluffy and delicious 🍓 I chose iced milk tea to go with it ✨ I went out with my daughter that day "What? Mom, can you drink milk tea?" I don't drink milk tea so much 😂 I love milk tea as long as it doesn't have sugar ♥️ My daughter will be in high school from April But she ordered the usual black and tiramisu 🍓 Coffee is good after all! Apparently 🤭 I also had a bite of tiramisu, and the strawberries were fresh and delicious as always 🍓 Actually, we arrived 30 minutes before opening and were the third group to arrive 😇 By the time we opened, there were about 10 groups in line 🫣 It was good that we could make a round with a maximum of 4 groups 🥹 By the time we left, the car park was full and there were cars waiting 😳 Strawberry and peach season is tough 🍓 Thank you for the meal ♡ #besttrip2023 #FukuokaCafe #UkihaCafe #Ukiha #Tiramisu #Shortcake

𓈒 𓏸 𓐍Fairfield by MARRIOTTO FUKUOKA Ukiha𓈒 𓏸 𓐍 📍734-6 Yamakita, Ukiha-cho, Ukiha-shi, Fukuoka Prefecture ☎09437-6-9120 A highly popular accommodation-focused hotel✨ 🔖From 15,730 yen per room per night "Fairfield by MARRIOTTO" opened as one of the roadside station projects by Marriott Hotels & Resorts, which also operates hotels such as the Ritz-Carlton. I visited Ukiha✨ This hotel does not have a restaurant, and the shower rooms do not have bathtubs, so it is a hotel specialized in lodging☺️ You can eat and enjoy hot springs in nearby areas such as Ukiha and Asakura, and use this hotel as a base for your trip✨ It was just so nice and I took a lot of photos💕 I also went to the nearby roadside station Ukiha, and was surprised at how cheap the fruit was! I was impressed that it was about half the price of buying it locally😭 It was a hotel I would definitely like to visit again🎀 #besttrip2023 #fukuokahotel #ukiha #ukihacity #ukihagourmet #ukihalunch #ukihacafe #kawasemidanish #marriott #marriottbonvoy #fairfieldbymarriott #fukuoka #fukuokatravel
