2026 White County Travel Guide: must-see attractions, popular food, hotels, transport & travel experiences (updated in September)

Started with a Cathay Pacific flight from Hong Kong to Atlanta, and ended up having the time of my life in the USA. The flight: Cathay Pacific got us there in comfort. Smooth service, good food, and before we knew it – we were touching down in Atlanta 🇺🇸✈️ Georgia, y'all: Picked up a car at Atlanta Airport and drove up to the cutest Bavarian-style town tucked in the mountains – Helen, Georgia 🏔️ We stayed in a wonderful Airbnb that felt like home (check out the amazing rentals in Helen – there's something for every style and group size) We hiked to Anna Ruby Falls – a gorgeous twin waterfall created by Curtis Creek (153 ft drop) and York Creek (50 ft drop) . The 0.4-mile paved trail was short, easy, and absolutely worth it. Then it was time for a VIP ride on the Great Smoky Mountains Railroad in North Carolina 🚂 We chose First Class for the comfort, huge windows, and included meal – worth every penny for the Tuckasegee River views We explored Morganton, Georgia – a quiet little town (population 285!) that was once the Fannin County seat, tucked near the Blue Ridge Reservoir Tennessee dreamin': Drove over to Pigeon Forge, Tennessee and spent a day at Dollywood 🌟 The friendliest theme park in the U.S. is absolutely living up to the name. Rode the legendary Lightning Rod and saw the incredible new NightFlight Expedition indoor coaster that opened in 2026 What a trip: Mountains, waterfalls, trains, and Dollywood – the American South at its finest. Curtis Creek plunges 153 feet on the left, while York Creek drops 50 feet on the right . At the base, they merge into Smith Creek, which flows into Unicoi Lake below . Standing at the observation deck and watching both cascades come down the same rock face at the same time is something you don't see often. The hike: The trail is only 0.4 miles each way and fully paved, following Smith Creek through a shaded forest . There are benches along the way if you need a breather. Round trip takes about 30 minutes to an hour . The path does have some steep sections, but it's manageable for most ages and fitness levels – we saw grandparents and toddlers on the same stretch . The history: The falls are named after Anna Ruby Nichols, whose father owned the surrounding land after the Civil War . The area became part of the Chattahoochee National Forest in 1925, and the trail holds a National Recreation Trail designation . 💡 Practical tips: · Entry fee: $5 per person 16 and older (15 and under free) · Hours: 9:00am to 5:00pm daily – no entry after 4:00pm · Parking: On-site lot at the trailhead · Dogs: Allowed on leash · The visitor center has restrooms and a small gift shop · No swimming – the area is for viewing only · Located near the Bavarian-themed town of Helen, Georgia, which makes for a great day trip ⭐ Final Verdict: 5/5 A short, rewarding hike to a truly unique twin waterfall. #tripaway A nice county with a waterfall and an old Sinclair Gas station. My dad very enjoyed seeing the gas station. The waterfall was a nice hike. Don’t go here for the gas station though, I strongly doubt it’s there anymore. They tour it down.But it was nice to see.So come see the waterfall that is still there. #tripaway
