Wujiang District travel guide and discussion

"Minatominato Hotpot Chaike" is a popular hotpot restaurant that serves eye-catching hotpot. The fish paste is cutely shaped like a penguin or lollipop! This is not only beautiful to look at, but also delicious 😋 We chose two types of soup: spicy mala soup and mild pork and chicken broth soup. Both were rich and delicious ✨ The service was also very good, and they gave us free sorbet and ice cream! It's a popular restaurant that often has a line, so we recommend going early! 📍Minato Minato Firepot/Tea Rest (Wujiang Wanxianghui Store) ☑︎Address L406, Building 4, Wanxianghui, No. 2299, Biping Road, Wujiang District, Suzhou City ☑︎Business hours 10:00-24:00 ☑︎Access Directly connected to Suzhouwandong subway station #Suzhou tourism #Suzhou #China travel #Chinese food #China tourism #China

Yesterday I decided to visit Tongli Ancient Town from Shanghai as I heard it's "Venice of the east" and it definitely has something to it. My journey started from Shanghai to Suzhou with a bullet train, and then I rode to Tongli via metro. Whole trip Shanghai - Suzhou - Tongli took about 2,5h, so it's best to treat it as a day trip rather than a quick one. Overall Tongli has beautiful canals, mesmerizing architecture and countless photo spots scattered around the town. As for the price? For an adult ticket it's 100 RMB and it allows you to visit the town's gardens and scenic spots! All in all, Tongli is definitely worth the time and I can recommend it to everyone close to it! #china #travel #suzhou #tongli #myitinerary

A Chinese dish that is loved by Chinese people but not well known to Japanese people is "sour cabbage fish". "Sour cabbage fish" is a dish made by simmering pickled sour cabbage and white freshwater fish. "Tai Er Sour Cay Fish" is a popular restaurant that serves this dish! There is always a line no matter when you go. It contains a lot of sour cabbage and chili peppers, so it's so spicy and sour! It's really spicy, but it's so addictive! You can't help but eat it. It went down a lot with rice 😁 If you like spicy food, you should definitely try it at least once! 📍Taijiang Soy Sauce (Wujiang Wanxianghui Branch) ☑︎Address No. 2299, Biping Road, Wujiang District, Suzhou City, Wujiang Wanxianghui L4, L428 Commercial Service ☑︎Business hours Monday to Friday: 11:00-14:00 17:00-21:00 Saturday and Sunday: 11:00-21:00 ☑︎Access Directly connected to Exit 2 of Suzhou Wandong Subway Station #Suzhou tourism #Suzhou #Suzhou travel #China tourism #China travel #China #Chinese food #Gourmet #Gourmet trip

Hidden within the peaceful grounds of Zhaoling Temple in Suzhou, the blooming wintersweet flowers quietly announce the arrival of winter's most beautiful season. Golden blossoms brighten the ancient courtyard, their delicate fragrance drifting through the crisp air. Against whitewashed walls, dark tiled roofs, and timeworn architecture, the flowers create a scene that is both understated and unforgettable—capturing the quiet elegance that defines Suzhou. Away from the bustle, every blossom seems to bloom in silence, offering a gentle reminder that beauty often arrives in the stillest moments. 📍 Location: Zhaoling Temple, Suzhou, Jiangsu Province, China 🇨🇳 🌼 Highlight: Fragrant wintersweet blossoms in a historic Taoist temple ✨ Feature: Golden winter flowers, traditional architecture, tranquil courtyards, and classical Suzhou charm 🍃 Atmosphere: Peaceful, refined, and full of winter poetry 📸 Best for: Flower photography, cultural exploration, and quiet moments of reflection 💡 Travel Tip: Visit on a cool winter morning when the fragrance of the wintersweet is at its richest and the temple is especially serene. ✨ Signature feeling: At Zhaoling Temple, the wintersweet doesn't compete with winter—it embraces it, filling the ancient courtyard with quiet fragrance and timeless beauty. 🌼🏯✨

The owner of the cafe, named "Curly Hair Coffee", really does have curly hair 😁 What's more, the owners are a couple, and both of them have curly hair 😁 Just standing at the counter is cute lol The coffee was authentic and delicious ☕️ I was surprised to see a toy espresso machine in the display inside the store! It's so cute! I didn't know they had something like this. I really wanted one 😆 📍Curly Hair Coffee ☑︎Address Storefront, Building 5, 1, Shuangbanqiao Huayuan Community, East Taihu Ecological Tourism Resort (Taihu New City), Wujiang District, Suzhou City ☑︎Business hours 8:00-19:00 ☑︎Access About a 19-minute walk from the subway "Jiangxing West Road" station #Overseas travel #China #China travel #Cafe #Suzhou

I've visited East Taihu in Wujiang several times and it always leaves a lasting impression. Every visit is a joy, offering a completely different "Jiangnan" experience compared to the old city of Suzhou. But this time, I suddenly realized that East Taihu is also a perfect spot for kids! With lakes, forests, water parks, and trendy sightseeing buses—plus the chance to slow down and brew tea by the lakeshore at night—it’s uncrowded and relaxed. It truly is the ultimate family vacation destination in Suzhou! ✅ Day 1: Double-Decker Bus Tour + Suzhou Bay Dream Water World 1️⃣ First, check out the East Taihu Double-Decker Sightseeing Bus 🚌. You must sit on the second floor for the panoramic view! The 180° sunroof view is incredible. The route loops around Suzhou Bay, with the vast Taihu Lake on one side and city landmarks on the other. Feel the lake breeze and soak in the scenery without walking a step. 2️⃣ Suzhou Bay Dream Water World A water park specially designed for families. The attractions are mild and kid-friendly, featuring shallow areas, fun slides, and a wave pool. It’s both safe and exciting. ✅ Day 2: Wangong Dike | Forest Mini-Train + Kayaking Can you believe it? This place is known as Suzhou’s "Little Norway." It’s covered in lush greenery and the dense shade makes it incredibly cool. More importantly, there are so many activities that you can spend a whole day here! Two must-try family activities: 1️⃣ Vintage Forest Mini-Train A leisurely 15-minute ride through the metasequoia forest. The slow pace allows you to fully immerse yourself in the tranquility of nature. 2️⃣ Forest Kayaking The waterways are surrounded by towering metasequoia trees. The water is calm, making it perfect for families to paddle together through this "hidden water forest." It’s a cool, fun, and unique outdoor experience 🛶. 🏨 Accommodation Recommendation: East Taihu Grand Hotel Located right by the lake. You can walk out the door to enjoy the breeze and the view. You can also brew tea and chat by the lakeshore. It’s the perfect place to gather with family and friends—gentle, healing, and a moment of pure relaxation for the adults!

TNN coffee & bar is a popular and stylish cafe with unique interior design. There were many girls taking photos for social media inside the cafe 🤭. We ordered a set for two, which included two coffees and a cake. We could choose from Tiramisu, Pandan Basque Cheesecake, and Coconut Latte Basque Cheesecake. This time, we chose the Pandan Basque Cheesecake that we had been curious about for a while. "Pandan" is a plant used in cakes in Malaysia and Singapore. Recently, it has also been used in cakes and drinks in China. Since I had never tasted it before, I decided to try it for the first time. My impression after eating it was... "tastes like grass"! 😂 It had a strong grassy aroma. I thought it would be delicious once I got used to it. By the way, "Pandan" is called "班兰" in Chinese. If you're curious, give it a try when you see it! 👊 📍TNN COFFEE & BAR (Suzhou Bay Branch) ☑︎Address Room 101, 1st Floor, Building B, Cai Zhi Hui Business Center, No.11588 East Taihu Road, Wujiang District, Suzhou City ☑︎Business Hours 10:00-20:00 ☑︎Access Take the subway to "Suzhou Bay East" station, transfer to bus route 719, get off at "Shuixiu Street East Taihu Road" and walk north for 178m. #OverseasTravel #ChinaTourism #ChinaTravel #Suzhou #Cafe #CafeHopping

If you love the atmosphere of China’s famous water towns but want something quieter and less commercial, Lili Ancient Town is such an underrated choice. What I liked most here was how calm everything felt. Narrow canals run between old whitewashed houses, stone bridges arch gently over the water, and small wooden boats move slowly through the town. Instead of rushing from one “must-see” attraction to another, Lili feels better when you simply wander. There is a very lived-in feeling here too. The old streets, shaded waterways, traditional architecture, and quiet corners make it feel more authentic than many better-known ancient towns. It is the kind of place where the beauty is not concentrated in one landmark. It is everywhere in the little details. 📍 Lili Ancient Town, Jiangsu, China ✨ Best for: slow travel, photography, traditional architecture, canal walks 📸 Tip: visit in the morning or late afternoon for softer light and an even quieter atmosphere 🛶 Don’t rush it. The best part is walking without a fixed route and letting the canals lead the way. #underratedspots

Suzhou Wujiang Park is the largest comprehensive urban park in the Songling urban area, known as the 'urban green lung' of Wujiang. It is open for free all day, all year, making it ideal for in-depth cultural exploration and daily leisure activities. I. Complete historical context Modern origins: Its history dates back to 1934, when Songling Town in Wujiang County designated 'Qiyang Mountain' and 28 mu of surrounding land as the first Wujiang Park. Buildings such as the Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall, Simian Hall, and Xilou were successively constructed, and in 1937, the Monument to Martyr Qian Digen was erected. Modern setbacks: During the Anti-Japanese War, the park was severely damaged by Japanese forces. After the war, despite repairs, it remained desolate and dilapidated for a long time, subsequently undergoing multiple destructions and phased restorations. Modern park construction: In 1992, the new Wujiang Park officially began construction. It was designed as a comprehensive urban green space leveraging its lush vegetation. In 2001, the 'Happy City' amusement project was completed. Subsequent renovations and upgrades preserved the original green areas while adding various sports and leisure facilities. Evolution of names: After the new Wujiang Park officially opened in 1999, the old Wujiang Park, built in 1934, was renamed Songling Park, creating a historical pattern of two 'Wujiang Parks.' II. Key attractions 1,000-meter health trail: This core route circles the lake, connecting all functional areas of the park. It is an excellent spot for flower viewing and photography when cherry blossoms and roses are in full bloom in spring. Miniature Taihu Lake: Located in the central area of the park, this lake is a scaled-down replica of Taihu Lake. Visitors can take a boat ride, and with the stacked mountains to the northwest, it forms a classical Jiangnan garden landscape. Specialized sports venues: The southwest corner features a 1,500-square-meter exclusive morning exercise area with free power outlets and fitness trails. The former children's playground has been converted into a 3,000-square-meter standard roller skating rink, surrounded by Suzhou-style architectural corridors, offering both sports and relaxation. All-ages recreation area: The northern section includes a medium-sized ice rink and numerous children's play facilities, catering to the leisure needs of visitors of all ages. III. Practical travel information Location: No. 666 Lize Road, Wujiang District, Suzhou. The south gate is the main entrance at No. 666 Lize Road, and it is a 1,500-meter walk from Lize Road Station on Line 4. Supporting services: The park offers full Wi-Fi coverage, and there is a free parking lot at the entrance, making it convenient for both self-driving and public transport. Visiting tips: The light is soft in the early morning or evening. Walking along the lake during these times allows you to avoid crowds and immerse yourself in the relaxed atmosphere of the city's green lung.

🍦 Must-have outfits ☀️ Wujiang’s average temperature in August is 27℃ to 34℃, with daytime highs reaching 38℃ and high humidity—a typical sauna day 🥵. I only brought two types of clothes: quick-dry short sleeves and a thin sun-protective shirt, plus a pair of breathable shorts. Definitely don’t wear sandals or flip-flops—Tongli and Zhenze are full of old stone slab roads that get scorching hot during the day and slippery after rain. A pair of soft-soled, non-slip sneakers will save you 👟. Pack a dual-purpose umbrella, high-SPF sunscreen, a neck fan, and mosquito repellent, plus a box of Huoxiang Zhengqi water. August has occasional showers, and mosquitoes are fierce near Taihu Lake and the ancient town waterways. Don’t go out at night without mosquito repellent 🦟. 🚗 Transportation guide 🚇 If you’re coming from out of town, take the high-speed train to Suzhou Station or Suzhou North Station, then transfer to Metro Line 4 to Tongli Station. From there, take the Wujiang smart rail T1 demonstration line or bus 725. It’s about a 10-minute ride to Tongli Ancient Town, and the smart rail is free 🎉. Don’t try to visit all the ancient towns in one day—spend half a day each in Tongli, Zhenze, and Lili for a comfortable experience. If driving, parking in Tongli on weekends is nearly impossible after 2 PM, so arriving early is key. Don’t rush to take the tricycle at the scenic spot entrance—check the estimated fare on Ctrip first to avoid being tricked by “free guided rides.” 🍜 Local delicacies 🦐 Walk around Tongli nibbling on sock-bottom crisp, which is crispy and sweet. In Zhenze, black dried tofu and Dingsheng cake are freshest from old street shops. Lili’s fried glutinous rice balls are crispy outside and sticky inside. A box of spicy feet costs 20 yuan; paired with a soda, it’s the perfect afternoon treat 🥤. Restaurants on the main street are generally 10% more expensive. Walk two alleys in for grandma’s home cooking, which saves quite a bit per person. Don’t buy souvenirs at the first shop on the main street—residential areas are about 30% cheaper. ⚠️ Pitfall guide 🚫 Tongli combo tickets are valid only on the day of purchase—don’t buy them a day early. Boat rides are charged per boat and can be shared by 4 people. Confirm the route and price before boarding. August is not crab season, so don’t order hairy crabs by Taihu Lake—just try the “June yellow” crabs. Black dried tofu and silk products sold as “100 yuan silk quilts” in scenic areas are usually scams; go to local old workshops instead. Afternoon thunderstorms come suddenly. Taihu lakeside trails and boat tours will close temporarily during storms. Avoid wandering outdoors at noon. Only swim in official water areas; never enter wild rivers or unknown waters 🛟. 🏮 Must-visit attractions 📸 Tongli Ancient Town ticket is 80 yuan, and the night session at Tuisi Garden is 50 yuan. The best time to enter the town is before 5 PM. The narrow Zhongxin Alley is so tight it fits only one person sideways—perfect for photos 📷. Zhenze Ancient Town combo ticket is 42 yuan. The Ciyun Temple pagoda, Shijian Hall, and Yuji Bridge represent a pagoda, a street, and a hall, showcasing rich sericulture culture. It’s quieter than Tongli. Families can visit Suzhou Bay Dream Water World—adult tickets are 98 yuan, and a family ticket for 2 adults and 1 child is 398 yuan. For hot springs, check out Suzhou Bay Wangyan Hot Spring—adult tickets are 168 yuan, and double tickets are 318 yuan. Dong Taihu Ecotourism Resort is free. Ride along the 28-km lakeshore to watch the sunset—a local secret summer spot 🌅. August in Wujiang brings wave after wave of heat. Before traveling, check scenic spot openings and weather alerts on Ctrip. Avoid noon by exploring ancient towns early or late and resting in air-conditioned spaces in the afternoon—that’s the right way to enjoy your trip 💡.

In April, Wujiang welcomes the wisteria bloom as promised, fully entering the "Absolutely Purple" romantic spring mode. At the east corner of Tuisiyuan in Tongli Ancient Town, century-old wisteria cascades over the Sanqu Bridge, with 120-year-old twisted vines winding around. The floral waterfall flows over the bluestone bridge and bamboo railings, painting the Jiangnan garden in flowing purple mist; in Zhenze Ancient Town, wisteria wind chimes hang in clusters from the eaves at the entrance of Sanguantang Alley on Baota Street, with dappled light and a faint fragrance, strolling here feels like falling into a gentle dream; under the corridor by East Taihu Lake in Taihu Oasis, wisteria flower clusters hang like cloud brocade and gently sway like a waterfall, with old vines and new branches tirelessly blooming year after year, fully displaying the elegant charm of Taihu; at the eaves of the long corridor in Mulan Island Park, Shengze, vines entwine tenderly, and pale purple flower spikes tremble lightly in the wind, like silk ribbons left by the Weaver Girl on earth, whispering the softness of the silk capital. The surrounding experiences are rich and diverse: the three bridges in Tongli have been renewed, with rowboats gliding through water alleys; Zhenze Wetland Park offers a strong rural charm, with activities like tea picking and cooking at Silkworm Cat Farm, enjoying springtime at the rice field coffee shop, equestrian experiences at Zezhi Station plus pickleball courts for both active and relaxed fun; the East Taihu S Bay Kite Carnival runs throughout April, with double-decker buses connecting lakeside scenery with hot springs, camping, coffee, and other springtime scenes; the red and white lighthouse stands by the lake at Qidu Taihu Wetland Park, creating a full Jiangnan "Little Kenting" vibe; Shengze’s Canhuali offers spring-exclusive fresh and fragrant Malantou shumai, and Taoyuan Strawberry Picking Garden features sweet and juicy Red Beauty and Cream varieties, naturally ripened and freshly picked for tasting. Come to Wujiang and join a Jiangnan spring date mediated by wisteria!

The newly popular landmark by Taihu Lake in Qidu, Wujiang—the red and white lighthouse—is officially open! The lighthouse stands 14.5 meters tall at the end of the Taihu Shelter Harbor opposite the Manxi Taihu Hot Spring Hotel. Its bright red and white colors beautifully contrast with the blue Taihu Lake, offering a picturesque view of shimmering lake light and a sightline to the twin towers of Qidu, embodying the poetic charm of Jiangnan. The lighthouse is made with an aluminum alloy body and 304 stainless steel fittings, showcasing exquisite craftsmanship. A gentle breeze stirs blue-green ripples on the lake; at sunset, the afterglow scatters like golden fragments dancing on the water, creating a peaceful and romantic scene. As a landscape light post, climbing is prohibited, but the area beneath the lighthouse is an excellent spot for photography: distant views from the shelter harbor corner, low-angle shots in front of the lighthouse, staggered group photos by the harbor railing, capturing both towers in one frame, and back shots that evoke the vibe of "Qidu’s Little Kenting"… Every shot feels like a springtime masterpiece with a built-in filter. Come to Qidu by Taihu Lake and start your unique journey!

The Longest Bridge in Jiangnan ~ Chuihong Bridge Chuihong Bridge was originally built in the eighth year of the Qingli era of the Northern Song Dynasty (1048), spanning the Wusong River and near the Grand Canal. It was constructed over a wide river surface, majestic in scale. Having been destroyed and rebuilt several times, it once had as many as 99 arches and was known as "the longest bridge in Jiangnan." It is praised as "except for Yueyang Tower, there is no such scenery in the world." More than 300 literati and scholars left over 400 poems praising Chuihong. The bridge is not only a historic structure but also a gathering place for poets and scholars, as well as a site for welcoming and sending off travelers. It was a key node on the important waterways of the Wusong River and the Grand Canal, witnessing the prosperity and changes of the canal throughout history. Behind the construction of the bridge lies a beautiful story. In the seventh year of the Qingli era (1047), Li Wen, the county magistrate of Wujiang, faced a dilemma when the court suddenly halted the construction of new official schools nationwide, leaving the 100,000 taels of silver collected by the people for building a temple school unused. At that time, the Wusong River separated the northern and southern cities, and people relied solely on ferries to cross. Frequent tragedies occurred when boats were destroyed and people drowned during strong winds and high waves. Li Wen decisively used the money to build a bridge at the mouth of the Wusong River. The following year, the bridge was completed and named "Liwang Bridge," meaning beneficial for the people's travel, but locals called it the "Long Bridge." The bridge faced Taihu Lake, spanned the Wusong River, curved like a crescent moon, and was as long as a hanging rainbow, hence the name "Chuihong Bridge." At the center of the bridge stands a pavilion also named "Chuihong." In the seventh year of the Xining era (1074) of the Northern Song, the famous writer Su Shi, along with Yang Yuansu, Chen Lingju, Zhang Ziye, Li Gongze, Liu Xiaoshu, and others, toured Chuihong Bridge. At midnight, under the moonlight, they drank wine in the Chuihong Pavilion and composed poetry, creating a celebrated story. During the Zhenghe era (1111-1118) of the Northern Song, the young Wang Ximeng painted the "A Thousand Li of Rivers and Mountains" under Emperor Huizong’s guidance. Experts believe the cross-shaped pavilion and long bridge spanning the river in the painting were modeled after Chuihong Bridge. In the second year of Shaoxi (1191) of the Southern Song, poet Jiang Kui returned home with a singing girl and passed Chuihong Bridge, leaving the famous poem "Passing Chuihong": "My new lyrics are the most charming, Little Red sings softly as I play the flute. After the song ends, I pass through Songling Road, Looking back at the misty waves of the Fourteen Bridges." The Northern Song calligrapher Mi Fu left the famous verse: "I like to send new poems to Sangzhu, Chuihong’s autumn colors fill the southeast." In the Ming Dynasty, Tang Yin gathered famous scholars Shen Zhou, Zhu Yunming, Wen Zhengming, and others to hold a farewell banquet by Chuihong Bridge for his friend Dai Zhao. Tang Yin painted "Chuihong Farewell," depicting distant mountains like dark eyebrows, slanting trees, and boats under the bridge. Chuihong Bridge witnessed joyful reunions among friends and conveyed deep feelings of farewell and wishes for the future. Chuihong Broken Bridge, originally named Chuihong Bridge and initially called Liwang Bridge, is commonly known as the Long Bridge. It was first built in the eighth year of Qingli (1048) as a stone pier and wooden bridge. In the second year of Tai Ding of the Yuan Dynasty (1325), it was rebuilt as a stone arch bridge with 62 arches (some records say 72 or 64). It has undergone multiple repairs over the generations. The bridge’s center pavilion is named "Chuihong," and two pavilions named "Huize" and "Diding" stand at both ends, each guarded by a pair of stone lions. In 1957, it was listed as a cultural relic protection unit of Jiangsu Province. In May 1967, most of it collapsed, and the remaining ruins were listed as a cultural relic protection unit of Wujiang County in 1986. In 1996 and 2005, the Wujiang City government repaired 17 arches on the west and east ends (several arches and bridge piers on the west end remain buried underground). In June 2006, it was announced as a cultural relic protection unit of Jiangsu Province, and in October 2019, it was designated as a national key cultural relic protection unit.
