There are so many fun places for a one-day trip around Zhengzhou.
For one-day trips around Zhengzhou, I have a few must-recommend spots (divided into 5 main categories, choose as needed, round trip in one day). There’s definitely one that suits you.
All are within a 1.5-hour drive, perfect for a weekend day trip. They cover summer water activities, family outings, cultural history, photo spots, and off-the-beaten-path hikes, with key highlights and travel tips included.
1. Summer water fun · top choice for summer (must-go in July–August)
1. Fuxi Mountain in Xinmi (45-minute drive, the ultimate all-in-one)
Highly recommended because it’s Zhengzhou’s backyard garden, offering canyon water play, ranch photo ops, mountain hiking, and fresh air for all ages. Summer temperatures are 5℃ cooler.
· Two main areas:
① Fuxi Mountain Grand Canyon: streams run throughout, shallow water for wading, clusters of waterfalls, dense shade with no direct sun, easy hiking;
② Cloud Ranch: hobbit houses, deer and sheep, popular swings, great for healing photos, a family favorite.
· Dining: farmhouse dishes and stewed free-range chicken at the mountain base, about 50 yuan per person to eat well;
· Tips: leave by 8 AM to avoid traffic. Bring water shoes and water guns for playing in the water.
2. Butterfly Valley in Gongyi (1 hour, free and less crowded water spot)
A free, natural canyon known as “Gongyi’s little treasure spring.” The stream is calm and clear, shallow areas are perfect for kids to catch fish and play, few people and no crowding, shaded throughout, no entrance fee, zero cost, very budget-friendly.
Downside: limited facilities, bring your own snacks and drinks.
3. Huancuiyu in Xingyang (1 hour, cave + creek trekking combo)
Key highlights: natural cave Longxigong with a constant 16℃ temperature, triple waterfalls in the canyon, wild macaque monkeys, gentle creek trekking trail suitable for elderly and kids, excellent value for summer cooling.
2. Family outings · easy on parents

3. Suohe Countryside Park (Xingyang, 30 minutes, free camping)
