However, you need to be very punctual and follow your schedule closely. A one-day trip is more suitable for covering the highlights, rather than slowly enjoying each winery, learning about wine-making, and fully immersing yourself in the region. If I were to plan again, I would personally choose 2D1N to have more time exploring the wineries, enjoying the scenery, and experiencing the behind-the-scenes wine-making journey. ⸻ 🚗 Starting Our Road Trip with SIXT Car Rental We rented our car from SIXT Melbourne Airport. One reason we chose the airport location was because: ✔ Earlier opening hours compared to Melbourne city locations ✔ Car return available until late (up to 11pm) ✔ More convenient for early starts and airport return planning From Melbourne Airport, it took us approximately 1 hour 15 minutes to reach our first destination. ⸻ 🦘 Stop 1: Healesville Sanctuary Our first stop was Healesville Sanctuary, where we spent around an hour exploring the animals we were most excited to see: 🦆 Platypus 🐻 Wombats 🦘 Kangaroos 🐨 Koalas 🦎 Tasmanian Devils 🦔 Echidnas There were also reptiles, wallabies, and many other Australian native animals. The sanctuary was very well maintained and clean. What we loved was seeing the animals in spacious environments, appearing calm and comfortable rather than stressed. 💡 Travel tip: If you have more time, you can easily spend another 2–3 hours here to fully explore the sanctuary. ⸻ 🍑 Stop 2: Rayner’s Orchard Tractor Tour Next, we headed to Rayner’s Orchard, which was recommended as one of the unique experiences in Yarra Valley. We booked the 11:30am Tractor Tour, which lasted approximately 90 minutes. Since we arrived earlier, we took the chance to enjoy breakfast and coffee at: ☕ Peach Cafe @ Rayner’s Orchard The meal was around AUD20++ per person. The tractor tour was a fun way to explore the orchard and experience a different side of Yarra Valley. 🎟️ Booking tip: Tickets can be easily booked online by searching: “Rayner’s Orchard Tractor Tour” ⸻ 🧀 Stop 3: Yarra Valley Dairy Our next stop was Yarra Valley Dairy. We spent around 15 minutes here before continuing our journey. 💡 If you’re a cheese lover, allocate more time here! ⸻ 🍷 Stop 4: Yering Station Winery Originally we considered visiting Domaine Chandon, but due to time constraints and their closing hours, we decided on Yering Station instead. The entrance was free. Visitors can: 🍷 Browse and purchase wines 🍷 Pay additionally for wine tasting 🍷 Explore different varieties before deciding what to buy There were options including: ✨ Shiraz ✨ Merlot ✨ Pinot Noir ✨ Dessert Wines It was a relaxing way to end our Yarra Valley visit. ⸻ 💡 My Honest Thoughts A Yarra Valley day trip is definitely doable, especially if you’re driving. However, the schedule can feel quite packed. Did you know that the Yarra Valley, located about an hour's drive from Melbourne, is a mecca for wine? I took part in a one-day tour of the Yarra Valley, so I'd like to introduce it to you. I took part in a tour, but there is an unlimited bus, so you can use that or rent a car and go around on your own! (I don't recommend renting a car because you can't taste anything🤣😂) On the tour, we were able to taste 4-5 types of wine at each location. This time, we had a packed course with 2 tastings at a winery, 1 gin tasting, and 1 chocolate tasting at a chocolate store❣️I don't know how much the tasting fee is when visiting outside of a tour, so please check for yourself before visiting. 📍Soumah Wines We were able to taste 5 types of wine. You can taste while looking at the view of the vineyards. There are lots of explanations, so it's fun. It's sure to be great if it's sunny!! ! ! ! 📍Four Pillars Distillery For gin tasting. It was fun to be able to choose the juice to mix it with! I enjoyed 4 kinds of gin. The stylish interior was also nice. If you participate alone, you will share a table with other tour guests. That's also fun ☺️ 📍St Hubert's This is where I had lunch. I had pizza. This is not included in the tour price. It was very delicious, but it was crowded with tour guests. 📍Domain Chandon CHANDON Australia Tasting was not included in the tour price. The view is magnificent and very pleasant. It's also a great place to take photos! 📍Yering Farm Wines The interior with a fireplace is warm and comfortable. It's a small place. Here you can sample not only wine but also cider. 📍Yarra Valley Chocolaterie & Ice Creamery I was able to sample about 15 kinds of chocolate. I almost got a nosebleed, but I felt happy! They were all very delicious, but my favorite is the simple chocolate from Australia. The rare and mellow taste makes it a perfect souvenir. #celebratewithtrip Yering is a nice and beautiful place to be at. it feels at peace and tranquil and the views is so nice. I stopped by here before proceeding to their winery to taste out the different variety of wine that they have here. took a short break here to rest and also reflect a little about life. it’s nice and windy but it feels very very peaceful and quiet that it’s good for some self thoughts and reflection. you can also spend some time here taking nice photographs as the view is gorgeous and having it as the backdrop makes everything look better. would recommend visiting this place if you can.
