York’s original suspension bridge was built in 1888. In 1896 the bridge was lengthened and moved to its current position and has been rebuilt many times due to damage from flood waters.- yorkwa.gov It was an amazing drive w my cousin and I really loved it! So I spent a week in Western Australia because Chicago was getting too hot and I needed an escape. August is apparently late winter there. My brain still hurts trying to process that. The quokkas are actually real and they actually smile. One of them looked at me like it knew all my secrets. 10/10 experience. Also went to Hutt Lagoon, which is a pink lake. It literally looks like giant Pepto-Bismol but in a pretty way. The Pinnacles desert also felt like a sci-fi movie set. Very dusty, very alien. Oh, and Busselton Jetty is ridiculously long. Walked all the way down it just to say I did. Rewarded myself with a massive local lobster at the end of the trip. Best thing I've eaten in a minute. If you go, get a plug adapter. Their outlets are weird.

I grabbed a proper flat white from a cute little independent coffee cart nearby and just walked all the way to the end. York’s original suspension footbridge first opened in 1888 after petitioning from residents for a footbridge to link pedestrian access east and west. A flood in 1891 saw the river flowing a metre above the foot-walk, but the bridge survived. The bridge was flooded again in 1893, widened and repaired in 1894 and further lengthened and moved to its current position in 1896.

During the August holidays, I took a trip to Western Australia. It was the tail end of winter there, so it was pretty chilly—I practically lived in the heavy winter coat I brought along. Remembering to pack a Type O power adapter was definitely a smart move. Overall, the travel distances were massive, and with all the walking every day, I was absolutely exhausted. For the first half of the trip, we headed south from Perth to the Busselton Jetty. It’s a historic old wooden pier with a great atmosphere. However, it was incredibly long, and just walking back and forth left my feet aching. We also stopped by a winery in nearby Margaret River for a meal. In the second half, we traveled north. The main highlight of the trip was seeing Hutt Lagoon (the Pink Lake) from a scenic flight. I was worried it might be overcast, but I was relieved to see its stunning pink color from the sky. After that, we hiked to "Nature's Window" in Kalbarri National Park, but the rocky terrain really drained my energy. On the way, we stopped by York, an old pioneer-era town. With its abundance of historic buildings, it had my absolute favorite vibe of the trip. I really wish we had more time to take a leisurely stroll there. We also had the chance to eat freshly caught lobster on a tour, which was genuinely delicious. Still, the itinerary was super hectic, and we were constantly on the move. The starry night sky was definitely beautiful, but it was so freezing cold that I hurried back to the hotel early.
