Zushi travel guide and discussion

If we had to choose a short trip that offers both the sea and mountains in one go, we would definitely choose this route again 💙 Starting from Tokyo, driving down to Hayama / Zushi takes a little over an hour. It's a great change of pace from the big city, swapping it for the blue ocean, aesthetic cafes, and a seaside shrine with a view of Mt. Fuji 🌊 We took a laid-back drive, stopping by Zushi Beach, Shin-nase Bus Stop, Morito Shrine, UNDER THE PALMO, and Riviera Zushi Marina. Each spot has its own unique vibe. On a clear day, seeing Mt. Fuji perfectly paired with the ocean is absolutely gorgeous. That night, we drove on to stay in Shin-Fuji so we could wake up early. The ultimate goal of this trip was to catch a full, unobstructed view of Mt. Fuji ☀️ The next morning, we checked out famous spots like the Mt. Fuji Bridge (Fujisan Yume no Ohashi) and the Starbucks with a view of Mt. Fuji before driving up to the Mt. Fuji 5th Station. This was another unforgettable experience—seeing Mt. Fuji closer than ever, feeling the crisp, cool air, and taking in scenery that looks even better than the photos. 💙 Our favorite things about this trip: ✨ Enjoying the ocean, cafes, shrines, and Mt. Fuji all in a single trip. ✨ A short drive from Tokyo, making it perfect for a 2-day, 1-night getaway. ✨ Spending just the right amount of time at each spot without having to rush. ✨ Catching Mt. Fuji from multiple angles on a clear day, from the seaside right up to the mountain itself. This trip proved that... you don't need a long vacation to experience the best of Japan. You can easily soak in both the ocean and Mt. Fuji in one unforgettable getaway 🇯🇵💕

Who says you only have to go to Kawaguchiko to see Mt. Fuji? At Zushi Beach, we can enjoy views of Fuji right from the seaside as well! 🌊✨ The charm of this place is the view of the ocean + Mt. Fuji far off on the horizon. Even though it's not massive and right in your face, you get a chill vibe and a completely different landscape, especially on a clear day or during the golden hour when it's exceptionally stunning. 📸 This spot is perfect for taking a leisurely stroll along the beach, relaxing without rushing, and making Mt. Fuji one of the highlights of your day. It's great for those who want to switch up the atmosphere from the usual lake view and see Fuji from an entirely different perspective. 💙 I highly recommend checking the weather and visibility before you go, because Mt. Fuji isn't clearly visible every single day. 🗻 Want a massive, close-up view of Mt. Fuji? → Kawaguchiko 🌊 Want ocean vibes + Mt. Fuji in the distance? → Zushi Beach

Kamakura is the best option for a day trip from Tokyo. The best time to go there is June. It’s hydrangea (ajisai) season, so the town is full of flowers in bloom. Getting there: Take the JR Shonan-Shinjuku Line straight from Shinjuku Station — about an hour ride, roughly 1,040 yen, no transfers needed. One thing to watch: only trains headed to Zushi go all the way to Kamakura. If yours see trains to Odawara or Kozu, you’ll have to switch at Ofuna. Worth checking the board twice before you board. What to see: · Kotoku-in — the Great Buddha. Thirteen meters of bronze that’s been sitting there since the 1200s. A short walk from Hase-dera, so pair the two. · Kamakura Seaside Park Stretches along Yuigahama and Inamuragasaki, with the Inamuragasaki end especially good in June, when hydrangeas line the cliffside steps above the water. Clear day and you’ll catch Enoshima and even Fuji across the bay. · Komachi Street The street with all the food stalls near the station. Good for grabbing something to eat on your way back to the train. 🍜 Restaurant recommendation: Near Hase Station, up a set of stairs above a coffee shop, there’s a small place called Kaedena doing kamameshi — rice cooked to order in individual clay pots, with your pick of toppings like pork or whitebait, plus a handful of little side dishes. It fills up and doesn’t take lunch reservations, so get there early or you’ll be waiting. Also — cash only, so don’t get caught out.

Starting from Tokyo to see the sea, everyone flocks to Kamakura. But I prefer Zushi, right next to Kamakura, which is less crowded and quieter. From Tokyo, it's very convenient to get here by public transport in just 1 hour. · The sea here, like Kamakura, has a natural Japanese manga filter. The red torii gate in the water stands in the clear blue sea. On a clear day, you can even see Mount Fuji in the distance. There are very few tourists here; it's quiet and truly perfect for a leisurely day out. · 👇Here's a Zushi one-day trip guide, you can set off after reading it! · 🚃JO Yokosuka Line: Tokyo Station — Zushi Station There are many trains, no need to buy tickets in advance, you can go anytime, which is very reassuring. You can just tap your Suica card, and it's a direct ride of about 1 hour. · 🗺️Zushi Check-in Spots ✅Zushi Beach You can walk to Zushi Beach from Zushi Station, passing through local streets and residential areas, all very quiet, I really love it! There are some local cafes and restaurants along Zushi Beach, but some only accept cash~ · ✅Manase Bus Stop You can also take Zushi Bus Route 12 directly to Manase Bus Stop by tapping your Suica card. The white bus stop by the sea is truly picturesque on a sunny day! After getting off, stroll along the beach near Manase, and Mount Fuji and the torii gate will be right before your eyes. · ✅Morito Shrine You can walk from Manase Bus Stop to Morito Shrine, with Morito Beach right next to it. The shrine has a history of 850 years, and it's said to be very effective for finding love. · From Morito Shrine, you can take a bus directly back to Zushi Station to end your one-day trip. · If you return to Tokyo early, you can also catch a sunset in Roppongi~

On the weekend, the train to Kamakura was packed with tourists, so when the crowd got off in a swarm, I simply decided not to go and took the train one more stop—just 6 minutes—to Zushi. This gave me plenty of extra time, perfect for spending half a day wandering along Zushi Beach, and it was such a delightful surprise! The coastal scenery of Zushi is just as beautiful as Kamakura’s, but with fewer tourists. The town is full of everyday life, peaceful and serene. If it weren’t for the striking Mount Fuji in the background, I would have felt like I was in a European seaside town. On a sunny day in Zushi, I was reminded of many seaside towns: warm, lazy, and filled with the moist air of the ocean. Living by the sea naturally carries a romantic vibe, especially with Mount Fuji nearby. Even as a mere passerby, I was moved by the poetic life along the coast. 🚶One-day walking route: Starting from the JR station, it’s a 10-minute walk to Zushi Beach. The weather was great, and locals were kayaking or paddleboarding on the sea, or playing beach volleyball. Walking down one street, Mount Fuji appeared on the other side of the sea. Heading south, I passed a residential area with many small seaside villas. On a balcony, an elderly couple was sipping tea in rocking chairs. Always gazing at the coastline and Mount Fuji at the end of the street, I felt tempted to buy a house here... Reaching Morito Beach, this stretch of beach was quieter. Along the coastal street, there were many cafes perfect for daydreaming while watching the sea and Mount Fuji. The cafe owners spoke English far better than most Japanese, and the shops were full of Westerners. Could Zushi already be a hidden sanctuary for foreigners? At the end of the coast is Morito Shrine, a local favorite with many seagulls, perfect for a quick visit. Further ahead is Manazuru Beach, famous for the classic view of the torii gate in the sea, the lighthouse, and Mount Fuji all in one frame. There are plenty of water activities here, plus a small fishing port, all making for excellent scenery. There were only a few visitors on the beach, all holding coffee, sitting on the sand watching the sea and mountains. The winter sun was warm and cozy—simply perfect! The whole walk took about an hour, with stops for coffee, cake, and sea views, just enough to spend half a day. When the sun is out, it doesn’t feel cold even in winter. 🚌 When you’re too tired to walk back, you can catch the bus Zushi 12 from any beach to return to Zushi Station. 🚄 Direct JR trains to Zushi or Keikyu Zushi-Hayama Station are available from Shinagawa and Yokohama, about 1 hour.

Zushi Beach is a beach located in Zushi City, Japan. 📍Address: 2-Chome-3 Shinjuku, Zushi, Kanagawa 249-0007, Japan https://maps.app.goo.gl/QDXMwmaSNusV5vaQ8?g_st=com.google.maps.preview.copy Beautiful sea, view of Mount Fuji, not too crowded, good atmosphere, not far from Tokyo. Besides the beautiful sea, there are also many interesting restaurants and other attractions in this city.

#GlobalTravel Although I love the sea and have been to Kamakura a few times, the crowded Kamakura is sometimes really frustrating. If you are like this, then you must know Zushi in Kanagawa Prefecture! A few train stops away from Kamakura, Zushi is a quiet town with beautiful beaches and many cafes. Just like Kamakura, when the weather is good, you can also see the beautiful scenery of Mount Fuji from the beach! Among them, the Manase Coast is particularly recommended. Whether it is at noon or at sunset, the scenery has different charms. There is also a small bus stop on the coast, with light shining into the bus stop, just like a scene from a Japanese drama! Zushi is a perfect resort near Tokyo. The pace of life is slow, making people feel like they are away from the busy city. It is an ideal leisure town. 📍Address: Zushi

This is a French restaurant in Hayama. It is located by the sea, so depending on your seat, you can enjoy your meal while looking at the sea. The first floor is a cafe bar, the second floor is a restaurant, and the third floor is for families and bridal use, and can be used for casual or formal occasions. Parking available. It is a bit small because it is Hayama, but security staff will guide you to an open spot. Zushi Marina in Zushi City, Kanagawa Prefecture. I visited here about two years ago, and was surprised by the location, which reminded me of Hawaii 🫢 There are many palm trees, making it perfect for Instagram Now, there are accommodation facilities, and it seems that there are even more things to enjoy Access is not so good, so I recommend a car 🚗 #Kanagawa Prefecture #Zushi #Palm trees

I went there for lunch after being recommended by a friend. Everyone's favorite teppanyaki restaurant♡ The sign was cute, and I had high expectations the moment I saw it. On this day, I ordered Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki with udon noodles. I also ordered Thai-style fried noodles. I was able to watch the chef carefully cook each dish up close, making the wait even more enjoyable. It was my first time trying the udon version, and it was absolutely delicious! The Thai-style fried noodles are not your typical pad thai, but rather a tom yum goong-like dish with a spiciness, sourness, and umami that hit me hard... I wanted to eat a mountain of it♡ They apparently offer takeout, but next time I'd like to go at night♪

On a pleasant autumn day, I went to CAFE CHOCOTTO in Zushi City Daiichi Athletic Park♪ This park has a large parking lot, and my son, who is in elementary school, can run around and play to his heart's content, so it's my favorite place♡ I always look forward to having lunch at this cafe after playing a lot♪ On this day, I ordered my son's favorite corn pizza and my favorite plain dog♡ It was so delicious! You can eat inside or outside the store, so you can choose depending on your mood that day, and there are many other attractive menu items♡ Please come and visit the park empty-handed on a sunny day♪

Zushi Marina ♡ Just walking around here makes you feel like you're in a resort 🫶 With stylish cafes, hotels, and wedding venues, the whole area has an international feel ♪ Make it your next weekend drive! #LikeAForeignCountry #ZushiMarina #OceanCafe #Zushi #RivieraZushiMarina

Zushi Marina is located about 12 minutes by bus from Zushi Station. It is a mooring point for yachts, but it is a popular spot where you can experience the atmosphere of the American West Coast. When you get off the bus, there are many palm trees facing the sea, and it really feels like you are in a foreign country! On the premises, there is the Riviera Zushi Marina, where you can use the hotel, restaurant, and cafe. Hello 😃 This time I went to Restaurante AO in Zushi Marina for a birthday lunch ☺️✨ Zushi Marina is far from Zushi Station, so I recommend taking the bus ♬ I made a reservation in advance for the celebration, so I was able to sit down smoothly 😆✨ The terrace seats were great, right in front of the sea ♪ The ocean view 🌊 is the best ♬ It seems that pets are allowed on the terrace seats 🐶 The lady sitting next to me brought her pet. I wonder if it's called a dike? It was crowded with people taking photos by the sea wall 🤣 Here we had lunch elegantly in the shade! lol It was just a feeling of superiority 🤣✨✨ The dishes were selectable on the day and were delicious 😚✨ There were many families, and it seemed like a lively place 😆✨ Lunch is about 3900 yen to 25000 yen. If you make a reservation through Ikyu or OZ Mall, you can get a discount, so please take advantage of it 😉✨ #Breathtaking views #Gourmet trip #Gourmet #Restaurant Theao #Zushi Marina #Birthday lunch #Birthday lunch #Couples #Family friendly #Tokyo lunch #Tokyo gourmet #Kanagawa trip #Day trip #Zushi day trip

Today's lunch ramen goes to "Sou" in Zushi City. I think I went to Itabashi Ward in the morning and went to Zushi City in the afternoon from the driver (laughs). The mileage of work of 45,000 kilometers in a year is not amazing! ?? That's why the store was full at about 12 o'clock. Wait about 10 minutes and go inside the store. There is no meal ticket, and the clerk picks up the order. It takes about 3 minutes from sitting to donburi. I ordered mellow soy sauce ramen and toppings with Iwanori and soft-boiled eggs. First of all, soup. It's an elegant soy sauce, but it's a little lacking in richness. I chose flat curly noodles for the noodles, so I often get entangled in the soup and I really like this kind of noodles. But I feel like I'm missing something in the soup. The inside of the store is fashionable. This shop is recommended when you come to Zushi City. Personal evaluation ★★★ ☆☆

"SUNDOWNER" in Zushi, Kanagawa Prefecture A famous restaurant for its omelette sandwiches and omelette rice, made with lots of eggs! It's huge, but it's so delicious that you can't stop eating it 😋 #Gourmet #Kanagawa #Zushi #Hayama #Cafe #Cafe hopping #Gourmet trip #Summer trip #Summer trip #Gourmet trip

Zushi and Hayama, located on the western side of the Miura Peninsula in Kanagawa along the coast of Sagami Bay, are popular seaside resort destinations near Tokyo. Zushi offers a vibrant coastal city lifestyle, while Hayama exudes a more refined, tranquil atmosphere with its scenic shores, private villas, the Imperial Villa, and a leisurely resort vibe. 🌊 Zushi Zushi Beach is the area's iconic stretch of sand. On clear days, visitors are treated to breathtaking views of Enoshima and Mount Fuji. For a panoramic perspective, head to Hiroyama Park, where you can overlook Zushi Beach, Sagami Bay, and the surrounding area from the high ground. 🌅 Hayama Hayama's most charming features are its stunning coastline and spectacular sunsets. · Morito Shrine: With over 850 years of history, this shrine is the spiritual heart of Hayama. The shore behind it is home to the famous "Morito Sunset," offering views of the red Najima Torii gate, Enoshima, Mount Fuji, and the Izu and Hakone mountains. · Morito Beach: Located right next to the shrine, this shallow, wide beach is a signature spot in Hayama. · Chojagasaki: A picturesque cape in Hayama that offers views stretching toward the Izu Peninsula and Mount Fuji. I headed over to Akasaka Mitsuke after hearing that CREMAHOP just opened a new location there! 🍨 I’ve visited their main shop in Zushi before, and I’ve always loved how their ice cream is so generous in size and how the ingredients have such a satisfyingly strong presence. This time, I was able to sample three flavors I was interested in before deciding on a double scoop of Cherry Chocolate Mint x Cookies & Cream. ✨ While I really enjoyed the refreshing combo of the Cherry Chocolate Mint, it was the Cookies & Cream that totally won me over the moment I tasted it. The cookie chunks are absolutely massive! Lol. The sensation of finding those big pieces inside the smooth ice cream is so much fun that I decided on it instantly. The sign at the front of the shop displays the seasonal flavors available at the time. It’s hard enough to choose from the classics, but having seasonal options makes the process of sampling and picking even more enjoyable. 🌿 The Akasaka Mitsuke shop is a bright, pleasant space featuring wooden furniture and green sofas, and it’s great that there are 30 seats available. Officially, they specialize in "DEEP RICH" ice cream—handcrafted in small batches using natural ingredients. I’m so happy I can now enjoy this volume and chunky texture in Akasaka Mitsuke without having to go all the way to Zushi! 💓 Next time, I’d love to try a seasonal flavor. Even though it looks so big and indulgent, it’s wonderful that it’s made with natural ingredients and that they offer vegan options. 😋 Would you go for the classics or try a seasonal flavor first? 🍨 📍 Reference Information CREMAHOP Akasaka Mitsuke is located on the 1st floor of the KITAYAMA Building, 3-9-18 Akasaka, Minato-ku, Tokyo. It’s about a 2-minute walk from Akasaka-mitsuke Station and a 7-minute walk from Akasaka Station. Business hours are 10:00–22:00. Operations were confirmed via the official website and recent map data (as of September 15, 2026). The Akasaka Mitsuke shop opened on January 31, 2025, and features 30 seats according to the official guide. Since seasonal flavors and stock vary daily, it’s recommended to check the latest info if you have a specific flavor in mind.

#slowtraveling Hayama sits south of Zushi—JR to Zushi then Keikyu bus to Hayama-kaigan (~15 min, ~220 yen IC), then 5 min walk to the marina esplanade. The “glider café” is the 8-seat waterfront window joint doing pour-over + a 380-yen anpan, open 7:30, cash only, no card, no IC. I go 7:40 a.m. weekday: Miura peninsula across the water, a 6:00 club sailor already rigging a Laser, the café master pulling a Kenya pour-over while the espresso machine still cold. Sit 30 minutes on the marina bench (not the café stool—bench is public), watch the rigging ballet, eat the anpan, then walk the 800m esplanade north to the Hayama Imperial Villa gate (not enterable, just the pine wall and the sea beyond). The stop isn’t about caffeine—it’s the 7:40 light on the Miura hills and the fact that the glider sailors nod at you because you’re not a 10 a.m. bruncher. IC train+bus, cash café. Etiquette: marina = don’t walk the slipway when a boat’s launching, don’t photograph the Imperial Villa gate (ward sign), the 8-seat café is stand-or-leave if full. Mistake: 10:30 Saturday—café queue 6 deep, the esplanade a dog-walk corridor, the gliders ashore. 7:40 weekday, rigging ropes creaking, is Hayama’s own wind. Question: when a café opens at 7:30 only because the sailors launch at 6, who is the customer and who is the alarm?

#slowtraveling Zushi’s Isshiki promenade is the 1.5-km flat walk from Zushi Marina south to the Isshiki beach bend, 5 min from Zushi Station (JR Yokosuka Line, ~50 min from Tokyo ~920 yen IC, or from Kamakura 2 stops ~180 yen). Free, 24h, no ticket. I arrive 7:30 a.m. weekday: marina masts still, a few outrigger rowers on the bay, the Miura Peninsula haze not yet burned off. Walk the sea-wall south, past the 7-seat morning café doing 450-yen blend (cash) and the stand-up paddle rental not yet open (opens 9), to the Isshiki pine row where the 1950s villa walls meet the sand. Buy a 130-yen konbini onigiri (IC, from the station Lawsons) and eat on the wall bench watching a heron work the shallows. The promenade is Zushi’s honest half—before the 10 a.m. beach crowd, before the marina café prices (1,500-yen brunch) wake. 60 minutes out-and-back. IC train, IC konbini, cash café. Etiquette: the sea wall is for walking not cycling (wheels banned 8–18 in summer), no fishing off the promenade (rods only from the south rock), don’t photograph the villa gates. Mistake: 12 p.m. August weekend—paddle boards three deep, the pine row a towel line. 7:30 weekday, oarlocks echoing, is Isshiki’s own bay. Question: when a seaside promenade keeps its 1950s villa wall and its heron and its 130-yen onigiri, is the slowness the view or the wall?

#slowtraveling Hayama has no station. From Zushi Station, Keikyu bus or a 25-min walk south; or Zushi-Hayama (Keikyu) then bus. Isshiki Beach is the anchor—free, open, weathered red torii on a rock in the water, Mt. Fuji behind it on clear mornings. I bus from Zushi at 8:10, walk the promenade west to Morito side, 50 minutes round trip. No entry, no ticket, one vending machine (¥140) near the beach-house row that's boarded up outside July–August. The cafés that stay open year-round: a stand-up roaster across from the imperial villa gate (no seat, bring your own cup or rent theirs, ¥450), a bakery 10 min inland (natural-yeast loaf ¥480, sold out by noon, cash). Slow take: Hayama is what Zushi was before the trains doubled. The promenade isn't a sight, it's a pace—pine wind, fishing boats, a single paddleboarder in October. Sit on the seawall 20 minutes, don't photograph the torii dead-on like the postcards; shoot it from the west with Fuji left-of-frame. Mistake: driving. Parking is scarce, the bus forces you to walk the last mile, which is the point. Would a town with no station be better or worse if they finally built one?

#slowtraveling Zushi Station (JR Yokosuka Line, ~1 h from Tokyo ¥940). Beach is a 10–15 min walk south; Zushi Seaside Park sits between station and sand with pine shade and benches. I exit at 7:35, walk straight to the water, shoes off, 40 minutes of empty shoreline before the surfers arrive at 8:30. Then back up to the café cluster near the station: one stand-up espresso window (¥450, IC ok), one old-school kissaten with ocean stickers on the glass (¥550 drip, cash only, opens 8:00), one bakery with a ¥220 anpan if you beat 9. The trick is three stops, one drink each, no meal—Zushi is a morning town, not a lunch town. Carry ¥2,000 cash; the good places are small and suspicious of plastic. Enoden connects Zushi→Kamakura (8 stops, ¥340) if you want to chain Yuigahama after, but that's a second act, not this post. Mistake: arriving 11 am summer weekend. The beach houses (July–Aug only) turn the shore into a sound system. Off-season weekday morning is the Shonan people mean when they say "Shonan." Would you wake early for a beach with no swim, just coffee and a horizon?

Walking inside, you'll be blown away by the sheer variety of baked goods crammed into the space! Everything is displayed with such care—it's the kind of bakery that's a feast for the eyes and gets you excited just browsing. I came specifically for the pistachio bread, but they were already sold out, so I went with the milk cream baguette instead. Honestly, it didn't quite live up to the hype and left me feeling a bit underwhelmed. The overall prices also seemed a bit on the high side. While the incredible selection of baked goods is fantastic, tasting this milk cream baguette just reaffirmed my belief that the one from "Peterpan" in Chiba is simply the best. That being said, with so many options to choose from, half the fun is hunting for your personal favorite. I'd definitely be down to try some different pastries next time I'm in the neighborhood.
