Ever since I saw the photo online of an island dotted with windmills towering above the azure waters, the name of Qushan Island has been deeply engraved in my heart. In the midsummer of 2025, we finally escaped the crowds of popular tourist destinations and embarked on a two-day relaxing journey to this &quot;East China Sea Island,&quot; located in the north-central Zhoushan Archipelago and under the jurisdiction of Daishan County.

Day 1: Chasing windmills, walking on the sandbanks, and sleeping to the sound of waves

Morning: Crossing the sea to the island and experiencing the charm of the fishing port

Departing from Sanjiang Wharf on Zhoushan Island, we took a roughly one-hour boat ride, and the azure sea gradually enveloped us. The salty, humid sea breeze dispelled the summer heat, and seagulls chasing the waves alongside the boat served as our guide. Arriving at the Qushan Island dock, what greeted us was not the bustling city scene, but rather the orderly arrangement of fishing boats, leisurely fishermen mending their nets, and the faint aroma of seafood in the air, instantly drawing us into the slow pace of island life.

We had booked a seaside B&amp;B on the island in advance, and after dropping off our luggage, we eagerly began our island tour.

Afternoon: An Encounter with the Azure Blue at Salon Beach

Our first stop was Salon Beach. The fine golden sand and crystal-clear blue water far exceeded our expectations. Stepping barefoot on the soft sand, a warmth spread from our soles to our bodies. We dashed into the waves, letting the cool water lap over our calves, creating a delightful splash. Or we simply lay on the beach, watching the clouds roll by and the tide ebb and flow. All worries seemed washed away by the waves, leaving only pure relaxation and comfort.

Evening: Stunning Sunset from the Windmill Platform

At sunset, we drove to the island&#39;s highest point&mdash;the Wind Turbine Observation Platform. This is Qushan Island&#39;s iconic landmark. Dozens of massive white windmills stand atop the green hills, their massive blades whirring slowly in the sea breeze, creating a striking visual spectacle against the vast ocean.

We found a prime vantage point and waited. The sun slowly sank, painting the sky a vibrant orange-red. Its afterglow cast a trail of golden light across the sea. The windmills, the sunset glow, the sea, the returning fishing boats... all intertwined in a breathtaking scene, like a cinematic scene. We pressed our shutter button non-stop, hoping to capture this moment forever.

Evening: Feasting on Seafood and Listening to the Sound of the Waves

Dinner was, of course, a seafood feast. At a seafood restaurant in town, we ordered steamed swimming crab, razor clams in scallion oil, salted mantis shrimp, and a bowl of seaweed and shrimp soup that was so delicious it made your eyes drop. Every bite was the purest taste of the sea, incredibly delicious.

Back at the B&amp;B, I opened the window and was greeted by the refreshing night breeze. Free from the hustle and bustle of the city, the only sound was the relentless sound of the waves, a timeless lullaby that lulled us to a restful night&#39;s sleep.

Day 2: Visit the ancient temple, explore the salt fields, and feel the pulse of the island.

Morning: The Cloudy Fairyland of Guanyin Mountain

To avoid the scorching sun, we set out early in the morning for Guanyin Mountain. This peak, the highest in Daishan County, is known as the &quot;Second Buddhist Kingdom of the East China Sea.&quot; We ascended the stone steps, where the tranquil mountain forests and birdsong filled the air. Climbing the summit to the Jade Buddha Pagoda, we gazed out across the vast expanse of Qushan Island: a crisscrossing network of villages, a winding coastline, fishing boats at work in the distance, and the boundless blue sea. Suddenly, I felt a sense of peace and enlightenment.

Morning: Liangzhi Fishing Village and the &quot;Million-Dollar&quot; Salt Fields

On the way down, we stopped by Liangzhi Fishing Village. Nestled between the mountains and the sea, this small village boasts a vibrant artistic atmosphere, with the walls of its guesthouses covered in colorful paintings depicting fishermen. We sat in the village cafe, overlooking the bay, enjoying a moment of tranquility with an iced Americano.

Afterward, we headed to the final highlight of our trip: the Shuanglong Salt Fields. Qushan Island is a major sea salt production area in Zhoushan. The neatly arranged salt fields shimmered silver in the sunlight, like a palette of earth. We were fortunate to witness the salt workers harvesting salt, the mountains of salt as white as snow a breathtaking sight. Touching the sea salt with our own hands, feeling this crystallization of the sea, we realized how hard-earned this everyday taste is.

Noon: Farewell and Reflection

After lunch, we headed to the dock, filled with memories and a sense of reluctance. On the return boat, we flipped through the photos in our camera: silhouettes of windmills, laughter on the beach, the geometric beauty of the salt fields, and the allure of delicious food... Each one told a story.

Travel Tips (Practical Edition for 2025)

1. Transportation: Arrive at Zhoushan Island, then take a boat from Sanjiang Wharf to Qushan Island. Scenic spots are scattered throughout the island, so it&#39;s recommended to drive (you can ferry to the island) or rent an electric bike for a more flexible tour.

2. Accommodation: We recommend staying in a guesthouse near Liangzhi Fishing Village or Salon Beach. The ocean view is even better. Reservations are recommended during peak season.

3. Food: Swimming crabs, hairtail, razor clams, and various shellfish are must-try. Ask locals or guesthouse owners; their recommendations often offer excellent value.

4. Essentials: Sunscreen, a sun hat, sunglasses (UV rays are strong at the seaside), mosquito repellent, and comfortable slippers.

5. Best Season: Spring, summer, and autumn are all suitable. Swimming is possible from July to September, but be aware of typhoons.

Qushan Island, without the hustle and bustle of over-commercialization, is like a low-key poet, with magnificent sea views, profound humanities and a leisurely pace.
