You must try the signature drunken chicken, it is really delicious and goes well with rice
I've never really explored North University of China, so I decided to go explore it this weekend! I also looked for good places to eat around the university. After searching around, I found interesting names for places like "Four Gates," "Seven Gates," and "Gate 6.5." Following the navigation system, I realized I had to go in quite a circle. I randomly asked a pair of first-year graduate students for directions. They told me that the gates refer to small exits from various locations on campus, such as "Gate 6.5," which is a small doorway. They recommended going to "Seven Gates," where there are more restaurants. Following the directions the students gave me, I crossed the railway line and found a vast food scene with dozens of restaurants of all sizes. After walking around, I finally chose "Drunken Chicken with Hua Diao," which I found had good reviews. The restaurant is on the second floor of a building. It's small and has a simple menu. You just choose your favorite dish, and there are a few optional side dishes. Rice is 2 yuan per person, unlimited. As soon as you sit down, you're served a pot of hot red date tea, a serving of rice crust, and fried dough sticks (youtiao), all free of charge. The dough sticks can be dipped in the broth. The cutlery is disposable, and while plastic, it's high-quality and thick, not flabby and thin. Each chicken portion is made fresh, and the wait time is about 15 minutes. I chose the mildly spicy version, and the potatoes were fluffy and went really well with rice! The server is a student from North China University, working part-time on weekends. She's very attentive and explains everything in detail! She's a very sweet girl.
