I stayed in a Jiangnan waterside B&B, enjoyed the autumn scenery of Nanhu Lake, the rice paddy cafe, and even enjoyed freshly made pork dumplings! (Soft background music with Pingtan folk songs) Off-peak travel: see this! Skip the crowds of Wuzhen and Xitang; Jiaxing, Zhejiang, is an underrated Jiangnan treasure! October is the height of autumn, with small bridges, flowing water, whitewashed walls, and black tiles. The key is—3 days, 2 nights, ¥3,000 per person—a relaxing, leisurely experience, and even sleep in this poetic waterside town! Switch: Early morning at Yuehe Street. (Station: Head straight to the Yuehe Historic District! Free!) Experience the vibrant Jiangnan scene, with cobblestone streets, old teahouses, and zongzi shops lined up without tickets. I stayed in a waterfront B&B in an alley, with a view of flowing water and wooden tents from the wooden window. Breakfast included, only ¥350! Here we go—zongzi! Don't buy the trending gift boxes; locals prefer freshly cooked pork dumplings at Zhenzhen Lao Lao or Wufangzhai Main Branch. They're savory, fragrant, and juicy, and only ¥6 each! From Wan Street to Luxiehui, you'll find arty shops tucked away in old alleys. Stop by a café by the rice paddies (we recommend Liangrang or Qigui) for a latte and a photo of "Longing for Life in Jiangnan." (The pace's up!) Second stop: Nanhu Scenic Area! Take a boat to the lake's center island to see the Red Boat and visit the Yanyu Tower. The entrance fee and boat ticket are ¥60. The shimmering autumn lake feels like stepping into an ink painting. If you have more time, head to Puyuan Fashion Ancient Town—a newly free ancient town with less crowds and beautiful scenery. Its vibrant blend of Ming and Qing dynasty architecture and modern art creates stunning photo opportunities! Looking for historical sites? We recommend cycling in Xiangjia Dang or walking across stone bridges and touching ginkgo trees in Meihuazhou for a tranquil and relaxing experience.
