Despite the global popularity of Lanzhou ramen, when you actually visit Lanzhou, you'll find there aren't any Lanzhou ramen restaurants! All you'll find are beef noodle shops! How to choose Lanzhou beef noodles? Based on my own experience, here are some recommendations for the best-tasting, most popular, and most frequently queued-up beef noodle shops in Lanzhou! 1️⃣ Ma Anjun Spicy Beef Noodles: Famous for its secret-recipe chili oil, it's my favorite as a Chongqing native. The Gangu chili oil they use is incredibly fragrant; spicy food lovers shouldn't miss it! I recommend the original shop near Qilihe Bridge (Picture 3), very close to the Gansu Provincial Museum and Lanzhou city center! 2️⃣ Mogouyan Old Brand Beef Noodles: Mogouyan's beef shank is authentic, thickly sliced, and generously portioned. A favorite among long-time Lanzhou residents, I often go to the Anning Customs branch (Picture 4). There's always a queue, and during peak hours, many people even bring small stools and eat their noodles right outside the shop. 3️⃣ Bai Laoqi Peng Hui Beef Noodles Bai Laoqi, one of the five masters of Lanzhou beef noodles, is a 40-year-old establishment famous for its fresh broth and spicy flavor. I went to the branch in Anning Zhonghai Heshan County (Picture 5), and queuing was a common occurrence! 4️⃣ Anboer Beef Noodles Several branches are located on Beibinhe Road, belonging to the mid-to-high-end beef noodle restaurants. The stores are quite grand, like they're aiming for a high-end dining experience, quite different from other street-side noodle shops, more like they're building a brand (Picture 6). This restaurant is more suitable for entertaining out-of-town friends, but it's almost entirely frequented by locals. 5️⃣ Wumule Peng Hui Beef Noodles Also a long-established Lanzhou brand, their beef is tender, melts in your mouth, and is incredibly flavorful. I went for breakfast and waited in line for a full 20 minutes to get a bowl of noodles, showing how popular it is! (Figure 7) 6️⃣ Chen Ji Clear Broth Beef Noodles Established in 1995, Chen Ji is also a famously popular restaurant with long queues. It features clear broth, diced meat, garlic sprouts, and cilantro. The interior is very ordinary, but that doesn't stop people from enjoying their noodles with gusto. (Figure 8) 7️⃣ Jin Qiang Beef Noodles One of the representatives of Lanzhou's new-style beef noodles, with more than ten directly operated stores in the city. Their broth is rich and fragrant, and the braised beef and braised eggs are also noteworthy. The side dishes are a major highlight and have a great reputation. (Figure 9) 8️⃣ Guo Yi Beef Noodles Also famous for its secret-recipe spicy sauce, this beef noodle shop is even spicier than Ma An Jun's. I usually order at least 10 spoonfuls here, and waiting in line for 20 minutes or more is the norm. (Figure 10) 9️⃣ She Jian Jian Beef Noodles I prefer to call this a trendy restaurant, a rising star in Lanzhou. It became popular a few years ago due to online hype. Their braised eggs are especially flavorful, the noodles are chewy, and the taste is quite good. The queues are relatively short (Picture 11). ⛔️Authentic Lanzhou beef noodle restaurants are open from 6:00 AM to 3:00 PM. They are closed in the evening!❗️❗️❗️ #LanzhouTourism #HowToPlayInLanzhou #TryAuthenticLanzhouNoodles #LanzhouSpecialties
