I ended up feeling a bit overwhelmed—I didn't do any research, missed any of the recommended check-in spots online, and made several mistakes. The ocean was truly soothing, though, so it was worth the trip. Let me share some honest advice, using simple words. If you're planning a trip, just read this and you'll avoid unnecessary mistakes! 1. I came without a research plan and skipped all the check-in spots—mainly because it was too sunny! My trip to Nan'ao Island was a spur-of-the-moment decision. I wanted to find a nearby place to relax for two days after a business trip to Hong Kong, so I didn't do any research. I didn't visit any of the popular check-in spots I'd seen online, like the lighthouse and the red lighthouse—not because I didn't want to, but because the sun was just too strong! I went for a walk at noon, and my arms ached from the sun. Wearing sunglasses for too long was blinding, and the kids (especially with them) couldn't handle it. Eventually, I gave up and just wandered around the hotel. I was there to relax anyway, so there was no need to fight the sun. If you're sun-shy like me, or just want to relax, there's no need to force yourself to go to the busy check-in spots and get exhausted. 2. Going to the beach is a huge pitfall! You can do it on your own, but don't go at night. The only "sea-hunting" activity I tried based on a travel guide was a complete disaster! It said online that "you can go to the beach with a guide and pick up tons of seafood," but when I went, I realized that sea-hunting is just picking up oysters and small crabs on the beach after sunset. You can also go there on your own, without having to pay someone to take you there. Even worse, don't go to the beach at night! The beach was teeming with bugs and mosquitoes, buzzing around you. Even though I was wearing long pants, I still got several bites. Some unknown bugs crawled up my legs, scaring me so much I ran away. If you want to go fishing, go by yourself around 4 or 5 p.m. when the sun isn't as strong. If you've never ridden an e-bike, don't try it; it's truly unsafe. - Wuling Hongguang convertible: Difficult to drive, and easy to get ticketed. The convertible looks cute, but it's actually very awkward to drive. The steering wheel is a bit heavy, and the roads on the island are narrow, making passing cars nerve-wracking.
