Fuzhou Pioneer Market is located beside Zhongting Street in Taijiang District. It is one of the most lively traditional markets in Fuzhou. At five o&#39;clock in the morning, the salty sea breeze wrapped in the noise of the opening of the fish market hits you. On both sides of the bluestone aisle, fishmongers piled up the hairtail, yellowfin fish, and red sturgeon that had just landed into silver hills, and shrimps and crabs waved their green claws on the ice. Following the crowd, the sizzling pot-side paste stalls emit the aroma of burnt rice paste, and the Yimu guards the dustpans and sells jasmine strings, and the sweetness of white magnolia permeates the humid air. At the corner, the rhythm of the wooden mallet beating the fish paste in the fish ball shop is intertwined with the Fuzhou dialect of bargaining, and the eels hanging under the eaves are amber in the morning light. This old market, built in the 1950s, solidifies the most vivid urban memory of the Minjiang River with its salty and fresh taste, market sounds and mottled brick walls.
