In addition to enjoying the fun of grilling and eating, professional waiters will grill and cut large pieces of meat and serve rice with avocados. Many people order salmon, eel and conger eel rice with avocados. If you have enough budget, you must order the wagyu platter of various parts, and the Spanish Iberian pork is also worth a try.
The enthusiasm and liveliness of the Yakiniku Izakaya makes Lao Ganpai look like an elegant middle-aged man. Lao Ganpai is located in a quiet alley in the East District. The interior space is comfortable and leisurely. The dishes mainly feature Australian wagyu and Iberian pork. The wines are red wine, white wine, sparkling wine and Japanese Ginjo, which are full of adult taste.

We went there on Valentine's Day. They had a set menu for the Lunar New Year, but it included a lot of items I didn't like, so we opted for the à la carte menu. The two of us ordered five dishes: |Appetizer| Lao Ganbei's Specialty Yakiniku Roll Tofu Salad |Beef| Five Beef Combination Hashita Steak |Main Course| Seafood Rice Bowl First, let me introduce Lao Ganbei. -A Japanese BBQ chain from Taiwan. -A Michelin-starred restaurant for two consecutive years. -Located at the intersection of Guangdong Road and Zhongshan East 1st Road at The Bund 5. Taste -Lao Ganbei's Specialty Yakiniku Roll/The beef was so filling and flavorful, I really enjoyed it. -Tofu Salad/We wanted to order the crab salad, but the waiter said they didn't have any crab and recommended the tofu salad instead. The flavor is light, yet the filling is quite rich, including tofu, kelp flakes, tomatoes, okra, bread cubes, and bonito flakes. The salad is mainly for the BBQ to help with the greasiness, but it's essentially the original flavor of the food, which is quite satisfying. -Five Beef Combination * Brisket / The meat is very thin, with grated radish to lock in moisture. It's very juicy when rolled and bitten. * Shank / Only grilled on one side, it was a bit tough and not very chewy. >.< * Scallop / They season it with butter and garlic slices, but I don't eat garlic, so the waiter just buttered it without the garlic. * Aged Red Meat / Marinated, then grilled to caramelize sugars, resulting in a dark, slightly sweet surface. * Beef Short Rib / This cut is close to the internal organs and should be grilled until fully cooked. Season with barbecue sauce, chili sauce, and garlic slices, and wrap it in lettuce. I still prefer it without garlic, but the waiter was a bit heavy-handed with the sauce, making it incredibly salty even for someone with a strong taste. -Hashima Steak / I ordered it medium-rare, and it was seasoned with salt and pepper while grilling. You can dip it in ponzu sauce or wasabi, but I prefer the beef's natural flavor, so I didn't use any extra dipping sauce. The medium-rare steak looked a bit raw, but it was tender and juicy, which I quite enjoyed. -Seafood Rice / The rice is a mixture of caviar, corn, chopped green onions, and some ground seafood (forgive me, I can't tell what it is). The rice is fragrant, but it can get greasy if you eat too much, so the restaurant offers two ways to enjoy it: half dry and half with water as a broth to help with the greasiness. Service Overall, the service was pretty good. I was a little disappointed at first. After we were seated, I asked the waiter for two glasses of water, but they didn't arrive until we ordered. I asked again when I ordered. When grilling the meat, the waiter will carefully introduce the eating method, taste and characteristics of the meat while grilling it, which slightly makes up for the initial disappointment.
Eat Here# 2020 was incredibly difficult for the restaurant industry, including Lao Ganpai. This year, they lost several major awards in the restaurant category. But the taste remains unchanged, and it's still worth supporting. As the saying goes, losing stars and diamonds doesn't mean losing value. Don't rush, don't get impatient, and don't lose followers. Anyway, I think it's pretty good.
I'd say it's truly excellent and highly recommend it to everyone. The quality and flavor of the meat are simply unparalleled. The service was truly outstanding. The lady serving our table was truly wonderful and attentive. I took a photo of her business card while she was grilling our meat. The staff member who truly touched me was this lady. The atmosphere was also truly classy.
