This restaurant is located in Tenryuji Temple, a famous sightseeing spot in Kyoto. The raw materials used here range from safe vegetables purchased from cooperating farmers to high-quality ingredients such as wild vegetables and weeds, all of which are prepared using the cooking methods of the Rinzai sect. They have always used green beans to make tofu, with the aim of making delicious food that customers can eat up. Their goal is to convey a profound culture that is different from vegetarianism to foreign tourists. On Mondays, they offer set meals: deer tail rice and white miso, sesame tofu, stew, white sesame mixed vegetables, green bean tofu, and wooden plates with wild vegetables and seaweed. The price is 5,000 yen, plus a 500 yen ticket to enter the courtyard, but the scenery here is really nice.
I accidentally discovered Shagetsu while visiting the Tenryuji Garden. So if you want to eat, you must first buy a 500 yuan ticket to enter the garden before you can eat at his house. Those who don't make a reservation can eat his set meal. The portion is small, but you can still eat enough with rice. The dishes retain the original color and taste of the food, and some are unique and delicious.
Very temple-like. I felt like Ikkiu. I didn't make a reservation. I ate at the 3000 stall. It was very exquisite. I was the first one to enter when the door opened. The big house was very quiet.
Shaiyue is located at the foot of Arashiyama, next to Tenryu-ji Temple. It is a Shojin restaurant directly operated by the temple.
