Accidentally, there was an old hospital next to Las Ramblas, which was said to have been built in the 11th century and was originally a refuge for pilgrims, but it became a hospital in 1920. However, the clinic has moved to the more famous St. Cross Paul Hospital. The hospital was being renovated when I went, and scattered visitors sat on the stone steps to enjoy the sun; the deep courtyard was full of orange trees, like a watercolor painting.
