I had noticed the corner restaurant off of U street several times as I was driving by. Last Friday, after happy hour drinks at another neighborhood place, my friends and I decided to try out Shaw's Tavern, as it was a beautiful night and they had an outdoor patio. I made a reservation online and we headed there. After a short wait, we were seated at a table on the patio. So nice! The food was delicious and the service friendly. The menu was full of appealing choices, even for a group of very picky eaters ( a vegan, a vegetarian and a carnivore on a diet!). We enjoyed wine with dinner and felt we were transported somewhere in Europe- was it the beautiful terrace with the twinkling lights? Not sure. But I can't wait to go back.

    5/5Outstanding

Came here while visiting DC and staying in a rental apartment nearby. Lovely place with a relaxed atmosphere. Service was exceptional- our waitress was so friendly and welcoming. We all just went straight for main courses; fish tacos, jambalaya risotto and crab. Really fresh, tasty food for a good price. Recommend!

    4/5Excellent

I've been to Shaw's Tavern several times for brunch. They have lots of options; the steak and eggs and eggvocado(an egg on top of an avocado) are my favorites. They have a bottomless mimosa that is always fun to take advantage of for a reasonable price. The staff is friendly and very attentive. I don't think I've ever had bad service. The have a nice sized patio if you want to sit outside. For a weekend brunch I would recommend making a reservation. If it's just you or one other person you can usually find a seat at the bar.
