Zhongshan Square is located southeast ofDalian Railway Stationand is a representative city square in the old town of Dalian. The entire square is circular with a diameter of approx. 213 m, and ten roads radiate from its center, a layout planned with reference to the Place de l'Étoile in Paris. Standing in the center of the square and looking around, your line of sight extends along the radiating streets, with the facades of modern buildings unfolding in sequence all around. The history of this square is a condensed history of the city itself: it was built in the late 19th century during the Russian lease of Dalian and was originally namedNikolaev Square; it was renamed "Big Square" during the Japanese occupation; and after 1945, it was named Zhongshan Square to commemorate Dr. Sun Yat-sen. Most of the modern buildings surrounding the square were built between the early 20th century and the 1930s, featuring a coexistence of various European styles such as Classical, Gothic, and Renaissance. Today, these old buildings are mostly used by banks and other financial institutions, making this area a long-established financial district in Dalian. The inner circle of the square consists of green space and a circular walkway. During the day, you can often see citizens walking and exercising, and flocks of square pigeons sometimes circle in the air or land on visitors' shoulders. On summer evenings, crowds gather to dance to music, creating a lively atmosphere. Visitors may want to take a slow walk around the perimeter to appreciate the different styles of old buildings one by one, and use the radiating streets as a backdrop for photos. When the lights come on at night, the outlines of the old buildings are highlighted, offering a different kind of charm.Dalian · 2.7km from downtown

Dalian Russian Style Street isTuanjie Street, located north of Shengli Bridge, not far fromDalian Railway Station. The history of this street dates back to the late 19th century: when Tsarist Russia forcibly leased Lushun and Dalian and built the city of Dalny, they constructed Engineer Street here, and this area witnessed the beginning of Dalian's city construction. Today, rows of Russian and European-style buildings line both sides of the street, featuring red brick walls and pointed roofs accented with white moldings. The street is approx. 400 to 500 m long. The buildings on both sides include both renovated century-old structures and newer, Russian-style buildings added later. The Former Site of Dalny City Hall at the end of the street is prominent in size and features a Renaissance style. It is the street's iconic historic building. The Former Site of Dongqing Steamship Company near the southern entrance is also worth a close look, with its half-timber structure, exposed red brick, and white trim. Many old buildings along the street have been converted into hotels and shops, where Russian trinkets can be found everywhere. It doesn't take long to walk the entire street. Pay attention to the gables, spires, and balcony details of each building to better appreciate the architectural style of this old street.Dalian · 2.4km from downtown

It's definitely worth experiencing the feeling of being between the mountains and the sea. The scenic area is well-designed, with boardwalks, stone steps, and karst caves formed over hundreds of millions of years. You can also get close to the sea and feed seagulls on the beach. There are several rest areas, and the prices are reasonable for a scenic area.

The Xinghai Bay Bridge is a must see sight especially during sunset! 🌅 You'll see gorgeous reds, orange, blues, and purples as the sky sets and darkens. It is satisfying seeing beautiful colours in the sky, its like watching a show! Cameras can only pick up a fraction of the beauty compared to viewing it in real life! 🌉 The Xinghai Bay Bridge is 6 kilometers long and is shaped in an 'S' curve holding traffic from both directions. It is also double decked! We didn't allow time to walk on the bridge but you can do so if you like. Viewing the bridge from the coast by Xinghai Square was just as good! Did you know that the Xinghai Square is the worlds largest city square? If you search up photos of the square it does not actually capture how big it is! When we were walking to the metro it was only then I understood how big the plaza square was 😂. You can get to the bridge and square by metro but it is about a 20 min walk to the viewpoint to see the bridge. We took a Didi from Fishermans Wharf (another tourist site) and then caught a metro back to our hotel. 📸 Lastly you'll see photographers who are likely to come up to you offering their services. They are not pushy. We decided to opt for a photo as it wasn't expensive and our phone cameras can only capture so much lol. One photo was 20 yuan, approx $2.96 USD / $5.03 NZD. They have their fancy cameras and then transferred the photo to us via airdrop. ALSO: we found that people in China really like to use the filters 😂 so make sure you ask for no editing and just the original photo! It took us a few tries to confirm this lol.

I was standing in Xinghai Square when the sea breeze with its salty smell came. Seagulls drew white arcs in the gray-blue sky, and then suddenly dived to the top of the waves, picking up the bread crumbs thrown by tourists. The tram clanged past the Russian-style street, and the old red-brick buildings squatted silently on both sides of the slope, with the aroma of coffee seeping out of the window lattices. An old man in a sailor suit sat on the steps and played the accordion, and the tune was blown intermittently by the sea breeze. Climbing up Lianhua Mountain at dusk. The whole city suddenly spread out at my feet - the bay was crouching like a giant beast, and the steel cables of the cross-sea bridge were spinning the last rays of sunset into golden threads. The tower cranes in the distant port were still working, like a group of tireless steel mantises. The salty sea fog rose.
