Huangguoshu Scenic Area

The Huangguoshu Scenic Area is located in Anshun, Guizhou, centered around the Huangguoshu Waterfall. Surrounded by deep gorges, dense vegetation, and dotted with limestone caves and stone forests, it is a typical karst landscape area. The waterfall's name originates from the locally abundant "Huangguoshu" (Ficus virens). Ming Dynasty traveler Xu Xiake visited and documented this site, contributing to its fame. The scenic area primarily consists of three main sections: the Great Waterfall, Tianxing Bridge, and Doupotang. Most travelers follow the sequence of Doupotang, Tianxing Bridge, and finally the Great Waterfall, saving the most spectacular view for last. The grand waterfall has a drop of nearly 80 m and a width of over 100 m. The Baishui River plunges from the cliff top into Rhinoceros Pool, creating a vast mist. Multiple viewing platforms around it allow visitors to experience its grandeur, wonder, steepness, and beauty from different angles—above, below, front, back, left, and right. A particularly unique experience lies behind the waterfall: a 100 m long Water Curtain Cave runs horizontally through its midsection, featuring cave windows and halls. Reaching through a window, one can touch the cascading water. The cave served as the filming location for the Water Curtain Cave in the 1986 TV series Journey to the West. Due to the heavy humidity inside, bringing a raincoat in advance is recommended. Tianxing Bridge is renowned for its harmonious blend of rocks, water, trees, and caves—where rocks rise from the water, caves hide within rocks, and trees stand beside caves. The stepping stones along the path are engraved with dates, allowing travelers to find their own "birthday stone." The attraction is divided into upper and lower sections. Many travelers turn back after completing the upper section, missing the Silver Chain Waterfall in the lower part—where water cascades like silver chains into a funnel-shaped pool, the highlight of Tianxing Bridge. The Doupotang waterfall is located approx. 1 km upstream from the grand waterfall. With a width of over 100 m at its crest, the water spreads out smoothly like a beaded curtain. During the high-water season, its deep roar earns it the nickname "roaring waterfall." The scene of the four pilgrims leading their horse across the river in the 1986 TV series Journey to the West was filmed here. In summer and fall, the waterfalls are full and powerful, while in winter and spring, the flow becomes gentler, offering different viewing experiences. Nearby, visitors can also enjoy local snacks like sticky rice, love tofu, and Anshun spring rolls.China · Zhenning

Libo Xiaoqikong Scenic Area

Libo Xiaoqikong Scenic Area is located among the peaks in the southern part of Libo County and is named after a seven-arch stone bridge built during the Daoguang era of the Qing Dynasty over the Xiangshui River. Set against a karst landscape, the scenic area brings together mountains, waters, forests, caves, lakes, and waterfalls, and is known as the "emerald on the Earth's belt." The Xiaoqikong ancient bridge is the attraction's signature view. The seven-arch stone arch bridge, built of bluestone, spans the Xiangshui River. Beneath the bridge, the water of Hanbi Pond is deep blue, and ancient trees tower on both banks, making it a classic photo spot. Following the Xiangshui River downstream, the 68-tier waterfall cascades in overlapping layers, with the river water dropping step by step over the karst rock surface with a roaring sound. Nearby, the Laya Waterfall pours down from the cliff beside the path, and visitors can feel the mist on their faces up close. The water forest is another unique view in the attraction, where trees take root among the streams in the water. Visitors walk along the stone stepping path through the forest, with babbling water beneath their feet and a canopy of green shade overhead. Mandarin Duck Lake is formed by two large lakes, the Male Mandarin Duck Lake and the Female Mandarin Duck Lake, connected with several small lakes. The lake surface is emerald green and serene, and boats can pass through the trees growing in the water. Wolong Pond is the surface outlet of an underground karst river. An arc-shaped stone embankment encloses the underground river water into a deep pond, and the water is as green as jade. Where the water overflows the stone embankment, a rolling-water waterfall forms, creating a striking contrast between the still pond and the moving waterfall. The area around the attraction is home to ethnic minorities such as the Bouyei and Yao, and villages like Yaoshan Ancient Village retain traditional dwellings and ethnic customs, adding cultural richness to the natural scenery. The attractions are distributed along the Xiangshui River; touring from Wolong Pond and Yuanyang Lake all the way down to the Xiaoqikong Ancient Bridge, walking along the stream is relatively effortless.China · Libo

Qingyan Ancient Town

Qingyan Ancient Town is located in Huaxi District, the southern suburb of Guiyang, and is known as one of Guizhou's four ancient towns alongside Zhenyuan, Bing'an, and Longli. Established during the Ming Dynasty as a military stronghold, the town preserves numerous well-maintained ancient buildings from the Ming and Qing periods. The filming of the movie "The Missing Gun" brought Qingyan Ancient Town to wider recognition. The ancient town's architecture follows the natural mountain contours, with its city walls built from massive stones on cliffs. It features four city gates at the east, west, south, and north. The exquisite stone and wood carvings in the town's buildings are a major highlight. The south gate of the ancient town, Dingguang gate, is the most magnificent among the four main gates. Historically, it served as the first gateway guarding the southern entrance to Guiyang. The towering gate tower and city walls built with massive stones, along with the winding flagstone path outside the town and surrounding farmland, create a spectacular landscape. Many promotional photos of Qingyan ancient town are taken here. Entering the ancient town through Dingguang gate, the first sight is the Zhaolilun centenarian memorial archway. Built by imperial decree during Emperor Daoguang's reign in the Qing dynasty, this archway features an unusual design - the stone lions carved on its four pillars are upside down compared to conventional ones, creating a peculiar sight. Walking along the ancient stone-paved post road, you'll find shops on both sides selling local specialties. Unique snacks like braised pig's feet, grilled tofu, and rose candy offer distinctive flavors worth trying when you need a break from exploring. The ancient post road winding from the south gate to the north gate serves as both the central axis and main street of the ancient town. Divided by the ancient cultural square at the town center, the northern section is called North Street while the southern section is named South Street. Intersecting with the main street are East Street to the east and West Street to the west. Following East Street eastward leads to Wenchang Pavilion at No. 143, a brick-and-wood structure built during the Wanli era of the Ming Dynasty. This octagonal pavilion with multiple eaves was constructed against the mountain slope and served as a gathering place for scholars to study, socialize, and worship the Wenchang deity - visitors may also pay their respects if interested. Heading west along the main street, you'll reach various distinctive religious buildings in Qingyan Ancient Town, including Yingxiang Temple, Ciyun Temple, Wanshou Palace, and the Catholic Church, all exquisitely crafted and perfect for photography. Between South Street and West Street lies a quiet alley called Back Street. This stone-paved lane is one of the most characteristic features of Qingyan Ancient Town, with its bluish-black flagstones polished smooth by centuries of use, reflecting light like mirrors to create a profound sense of tranquility. The narrow, serene path follows the mountain's contours, flanked by layered slate walls, making it an ideal photography spot. The streets and alleys in Qingyan ancient town are deep and winding, but there are signposts on the main street and at every important intersection. Moreover, most lanes can loop back to the main street, so you don't need to worry about getting lost while exploring the ancient town.Guiyang · 35.6km from downtown

Guizhou Provincial Museum

4.5/5

The Guizhou Provincial Museum is a comprehensive museum showcasing the history and ethnic culture of Guizhou. The new building, completed and opened in 2017, is a brown rhombus-shaped structure adorned with colorful accents on its exterior, symbolizing "though small as a rhombus stone, it embodies the thousand mountains and islands of Guizhou's culture." The museum features three permanent exhibitions: "Ethnic Guizhou," "Kingdom of Paleontology," and "Historical Guizhou," along with functional areas such as a digital experience hall, intangible cultural heritage theater, and 4D cinema. "Historical Guizhou" unfolds along themes such as the exploration of Guanyin Cave, the traces of Yelang, and the path to provincial establishment: the large number of chipped stone tools unearthed at the Qianxi Guanyin Cave site push back the history of human activity in Guizhou to the early Paleolithic era. The restored scene of "head-covered burials" in Hezhang Kele, the early-known Shizhaishan-type bronze drum of Guizhou, and the weapon molds excavated from the Puan Bronze Drum Mountain site together outline the mysterious bronze culture of Yelang. The Eastern Han bronze chariot and horse unearthed from the Wantu Han tomb in Xingyi is widely recognized as the museum's crown jewel, with the bronze horse raising its head in a neigh and the chariot canopy's bronze as thin as paper. The Ming Dynasty golden phoenix crown excavated from the Yang family chieftain's tomb in Zunyi is inlaid with hundreds of rubies and sapphires, while the sets of glazed pottery figurines in ceremonial procession are equally striking. The "Kingdom of Paleontology" takes visitors back to the oceans of hundreds of millions of years ago in Guizhou: The Guizhouosaurus hui measures only 20-30 cm in length, discovered in Xingyi in 1957, and was the first marine reptile found and named by Chinese scholars. The ichthyosaur and crinoid fossils of the Guanling biota, as well as the Orientognathus from the Panxian biota with its neck accounting for nearly half its body length, are all worth a closer look. "Ethnic Guizhou" highlights the museum's collection: the first floor recreates village scenes with stilt houses and covered bridges, while the second floor showcases ethnic costumes such as Miao ceremonial attire, silver horn headdresses, and Shui horse-tail embroidery baby carriers, with the Miao clothing and silver adornments ranking among the finest in China. The rare Song Dynasty egret-patterned wax-dyed women's outfit unearthed in Pingba and the century-old Qing Dynasty dragon boat collected from the banks of the Qingshui River each carry their own stories. Each of the three exhibitions offers a distinct focus, and a full tour takes you from Guizhou's ancient oceanic past to its present-day multi-ethnic culture, so ample time is recommended for a thorough visit.Guiyang · 1.2km from downtown

Huangguoshu Waterfall, Doupotang Waterfall, and Yinlianzhuitan Waterfall are all beautiful. We set off from Guiyang to Zhenning at around 6 a.m. The entire scenic area is divided into three parts, and we explored the whole area on foot in less than 6 hours! We also visited the Water Curtain Cave! The most beautiful part of Huangguoshu is the section with the Water Curtain Cave! If you don't go to the Water Curtain Cave, your trip is incomplete!

Libo Xiaoqikong, affectionately known as "Little Seventeen," is located at the border of Guizhou and Guangxi provinces. It is a World Natural Heritage site and a national 5A scenic area. It gets its name from the seven-arched ancient bridge that spanned the Xiangshui River during the Daoguang era of the Qing Dynasty, connecting the two provinces. Hidden within its secluded valleys are crystal-clear waters, dotted with Wolongtan (Sleeping Dragon Pool), a water forest, and a 68-tiered waterfall, earning it the reputation of "the emerald on the Earth's belt." The karst landscape is breathtakingly beautiful, with clear, sparkling waters.

Inspired by the legends of the ancient Yelang Kingdom in southwestern China during the Qin and Han dynasties, the Doupeng Mountain area is said to have belonged to the ancient Yelang region, serving as the central theme of the entire creation and expressing the mysterious and primitive atmosphere of the ancient Yelang Kingdom.

Not far from Guiyang, this ancient town offers a tranquil escape from the hustle and bustle of the city. The "Defend Qingyan" activity immerses you in the atmosphere of the revolutionary war. While the main street is teeming with tourists, a stroll into the side alleys allows for a quieter appreciation of the century-old buildings. The pig's trotters in the food street are a specialty and definitely worth trying.

Tianhetan is definitely worth a visit, especially the boat ride through the water-eroded cave – the experience is fantastic. For those who don't have enough time in Guiyang but still want to see some natural scenery, this is a great choice. It's like a miniature version of Guizhou, combining waterfalls and karst caves. While it may not be the most spectacular or breathtaking, the experience is just as good.

Located at No. 187 Zaoshan Road, Yunyan District, Guiyang City, only 1.5 kilometers from the city center, the park was established in 1957 and is a national 4A-level scenic spot. Admission is free (reservations required), Hongfu Temple incense and flower tickets cost 2 yuan, and cable car/zoo services are charged separately. It integrates mountains, forests, springs, lakes, caves, temples, and monkeys, and is known for its "premium location in the city, beautiful in nature." 🌟Highlights & Must-Visit Spots 1. Wild Macaque Troops: A rare semi-wild urban macaque troop (over a thousand individuals) concentrated around the Jiuqu Path and Hongfu Temple. Great for photos, but please do not feed them and keep an eye on your belongings. 2. Hongfu Temple + Jiuqu Path: Guizhou's first temple (during the Kangxi period of the Qing Dynasty). Climb the 383 stone steps of the Jiuqu Path, accompanied by cliff carvings and ancient pavilions; the temple features ancient Buddha caves and Buddhist scriptures, and is a popular place of worship. 3. Qilin Cave: A karst cave where Zhang Xueliang and Yang Hucheng were once under house arrest; it combines natural scenery with revolutionary history. 4. Qianling Lake + Kanzhu Pavilion: The lake is wide enough for boating; Kanzhu Pavilion on Daluo Ridge offers panoramic views of Guiyang city, with stunning sunsets. Visitors can hike or take a cable car up the mountain. 5. Zoo/Panda House: A long-established city zoo with a South China tiger breeding base, suitable for family-friendly educational activities; high vegetation coverage and abundant negative oxygen ions.

I arrived 5 minutes early, and the lecturer, Keju, immediately started and continued until 3:05 PM without a break. He covered everything from ancient Guizhou to Qing Dynasty Guizhou, and the lecture was quite comprehensive. It seemed that Keju really enjoys reading and has a rich knowledge base. He was also quite experienced in interacting with children, and the kids listened with great interest. It was very good.

Jiaxiu Tower, located at No. 8 Cuiwei Lane, Nanming District, Guiyang City, Guizhou Province, sits on the Nanming River. Originally built in 1598 (the 26th year of the Wanli reign of the Ming Dynasty), it was constructed on a large rock in the river. It underwent numerous repairs throughout history, with the current structure dating back to 1909 (the first year of the Xuantong reign of the Qing Dynasty). Jiaxiu Tower was initiated in 1598 by Jiang Dongzhi, then Governor of Guizhou, and Ying Chaoqing, the Imperial Inspector. The initial intention was for Governor Jiang Dongzhi to hope that Guizhou would produce outstanding scholars, and to provide a place for young students to study, thus addressing the shortage of talent in Guizhou. In 1776 (the 41st year of the Qianlong reign), Governor Pei Zongxi renovated the tower, inscribed its name, and added the Hanbi Pavilion to the Fuyu Bridge. Destroyed by war in 1909, it was rebuilt by Governor Pang Shuhong. The current structure was renovated by the Guiyang Municipal People's Government in 1982, with a platform added to the east of the tower. The building covers an area of 365 square meters and is a three-story, three-eaved, four-cornered pyramidal roof structure made of wood and stone. Several pairs of couplets from the Qing Dynasty hang at the main entrance, the most famous being the long couplet by Liu Yunliang, a Jinshi (successful candidate in the highest imperial examination) of the Xinwei year of the Tongzhi reign (1871). To the south of the building is Cuiwei Garden, originally built in the Ming Dynasty (approved to be incorporated into Jiaxiu Tower by the Guizhou Provincial People's Government in 1999), which includes ancient buildings such as Gongnan Pavilion, Cuiwei Pavilion, study rooms, and Longmen Academy. Jiaxiu Tower has three stories, all with white stone railings, each story receding inwards, reaching a height of approximately 20 meters from the bridge surface to the top. The Nanming River flows in front of the tower, forming Hanbi Pool. A stone arch bridge, "Fuyu Bridge," connects the two banks to the tower, with a small pavilion called "Hanbi Pavilion" on the bridge. The entire structure features vermilion beams and green tiles, a three-story, three-eaved, four-cornered pyramidal roof. Jiaxiu Tower is a witness to Guiyang's history and a landmark in its cultural development. In 1982, Jiaxiu Tower was listed as one of the first batch of cultural relics protection units in Guizhou Province. On March 28, 2008, Jiaxiu Tower, as part of the "Wenchang Pavilion and Jiaxiu Tower", was designated by the State Council as the sixth batch of national key cultural relics protection units.
