Masada is a holy place for Jews and one of the United Nations World Heritage Sites. It is located on a rocky mountaintop at the junction of the Judean Desert and the Dead Sea Valley, about 25 kilometers north of Ein Gedi. The cliff on the east side is about 450 meters high, and it goes straight down from the top of the mountain to the shore of the Dead Sea; the cliff on the west side is about 100 meters high. The top of the mountain is flat and diamond-shaped, about 600 meters long from north to south, about 300 meters wide from east to west, and the surrounding wall is about 1,400 meters long. The natural roads leading to Masada are extremely steep, and the most important one is the "Snake Path" on the east side.
