Sahara Desert spans across multiple North African countries and is one of the world's largest sandy deserts. Rolling sand dunes create wave-like patterns, with black volcanic rock formations scattered throughout. The rock walls preserve prehistoric hunting murals and petroglyphs, documenting ecological changes and human activity from thousands of years ago. The unique climate has shaped a distinct ecosystem, where drought-resistant plants, fennec foxes, desert lizards, and other animals thrive. Oases, sustained by underground water veins, are scattered along the desert's edge, where villages surrounded by palm groves preserve traditional mud-brick architecture, and nomadic peoples maintain their traditional way of life alongside camels. Travelers can experience desert camping, observe the Milky Way under a night sky with minimal light pollution, or explore desert fossils and geological views.Errachidia Province · >100km from downtown

Merzouga Desert is located in southeastern Morocco and is a representative tourist destination in the Sahara Desert, famous for its rolling golden sand dunes and magnificent natural scenery. The sand dunes here are towering and continuous, with some reaching over 100 m in height. Years of wind erosion have formed beautiful sand ridges and delicate textures that resemble ocean waves. Standing on top of the dunes and looking out, the vast sea of sand stretches to the horizon, making one feel the magnificence and tranquility of nature. In the early morning, the first rays of sunlight spill onto the dunes, dyeing the originally quiet sea of sand a warm golden yellow. In the evening, as the sun sets, the dunes gradually take on orange-red and rose-gold hues, with light and shadow constantly changing as the sun moves, like a natural work of art. Therefore, it attracts many photography enthusiasts who come to capture the unique beauty of the desert.Merzouga · 2.1km from downtown

Todgha Gorge is located near Tinerhir in the eastern part of the Atlas Mountains in Morocco, formed by the Todgha and Dades rivers cutting through limestone over a long period. Starting from Tinerhir, a road winds into the gorge, passing mud-brick villages and ancient kasbahs along the way. As you go deeper, the rock walls on both sides gradually rise and narrow, reaching a width of only approx. 10m at the narrowest point, while the cliffs tower hundreds of meters high. Standing at the bottom of the valley and looking up, the steep, smooth rock walls look like a split in the earth that blocks out most of the sky. The rock walls in the core section of the gorge are nearly vertical and smooth, with limestone walls displaying a blend of brownish-red and golden hues that show distinct layers under the sunlight. During the dry season, the riverbed is mostly dry and can be traversed on foot, while water levels rise significantly during the rainy season. You can traverse this section by car or on foot. Walking offers a more direct experience of the gorge's imposing and magnificent scale without the obstruction of a car roof. Hundreds of rock climbing routes have been established on the cliff walls, ranging from beginner to advanced levels, making it a popular destination for climbers in Morocco. You can hike a loop along the trail, which offers panoramic views of the Atlas Mountains highlands and passes through Berber villages.Tinerhir · 89.1km from Errachidia Province

Aït Benhaddou is an ancient earthen settlement in the heart of the Atlas Mountains in southern Morocco, situated on the ancient trade route connecting the Sahara Desert and Marrakech. It was once an important transfer station for the transport of gold, salt, and spices in trans-Saharan trade. It is said that the village was founded in the 8th century. Although most of the existing buildings were constructed after the 17th century, they use earthen construction techniques that have been passed down for hundreds of years, making it a representative relic of earthen architecture in southern Morocco. The entire settlement is built along the hillside, with layers of red earthen walls, corner towers, and kasbahs connected to each other, forming a spatial pattern enclosed by narrow alleys and high walls. The towering defensive walls and corner towers were used to fend off raids in the past, while the layout of residential houses, mosques, and public spaces in close proximity reflects the lifestyle of the Berber community. At the higher part of the village is the former hilltop granary; climbing up here offers a panoramic view of the entire settlement and the valley. While walking through the alleys, you can also see small handicraft shops opened by local residents, and a few families still live in the old village today. Due to its unique ancient city view, this settlement has become a filming location for numerous film and television works. Films such as "Lawrence of Arabia," "The Jewel of the Nile," "The Mummy," and "Gladiator" were all shot here, and it also served as a filming location for the city of Yunkai in "Game of Thrones."Morocco · Ait Ben Haddou

Ifrane is situated on a plateau in theMiddle Atlasat an altitude of approx. 1,665m. Known as the "Little Switzerland of Morocco" for its Alpine-style stone chalets, red-tiled roofs, and wide, tree-lined avenues, it stands apart from other Moroccan towns. Unlike other towns in Morocco, there is no medina here; instead, you will find manicured parks and French-style patisseries. Built during the French protectorate era as a summer retreat for colonial officials, the town still attracts many Moroccan families seeking to escape the summer heat, while in winter, snow blankets the entire town. Al Akhawayn University is located within the town, and its campus is worth a stroll. The town's landmark is a stone lion statue, carved from a single boulder, standing next to the Parc La Prairie. On the edge of town, Aguelmame Lake is perfect for a morning walk, with particularly beautiful views in the fall when the oak trees change color. Nearby, Ifrane National Park protects vast forests of Atlas cedars, home to the tailless Barbary macaque, a primate species unique to Northern Africa that is often seen jumping through the branches in search of food. When it snows in winter, the ski slopes open, offering a view of snow-covered cedars that is rare to find anywhere else in Northern Africa.Morocco · Ifrane

Moroccan Tannery

4.5/5
93 reviews
Moroccan Tannery is one of the traditional tanneries still operating in the old city of Fez, Morocco, famous for its vast array of circular stone dyeing vats and the traditional manual leather processing techniques that continue to this day. Leather craftsmen first soak animal hides, such as cow and sheep, in a mixture of lime, salt, and pigeon droppings. After softening and cleaning, the hides are placed into dyeing vats of different colors, then removed to dry. The white, red, yellow, and blue colors of the vats intermingle, creating a recognizable traditional craft view. When visiting, the supplier will usually hand you a small sprig of mint, which you can hold to your nose to mask most of the smell. You will then generally be led to the upper terrace of a surrounding leather shop to look down over the entire tannery—the stone vats are spread out like a honeycomb, with workers standing barefoot in the dye, treading and kneading the hides. The large patches of red, yellow, blue, and green spreading out in the sunlight make for a highly recognizable scene in Fez. After viewing, you will likely be taken to the leather goods display floor downstairs, where leather bags, slippers, and jackets are stacked layer by layer by color, featuring vibrant colors and styles that are mostly local.Morocco · Fes

日落前沙漠的景色很美。如果体力还行,强烈建议爬到沙丘顶端。虽然在沙丘顶上看出去还是一望无际的沙漠,但居高临下的视角不一样,那个感觉是在沙丘脚下体会不到的。

Todra Canyon is a very beautiful and steep canyon with steep peaks and underground rivers. The scenery here is very similar to the Antelope Canyon rocks in the United States, with layers of layers under the sunlight. In addition, there is an underground river here, which flows all year round and you can wade in the water, which is very interesting.

【Ait Ben Haddou】The ancient city is located in Ouarzazate, Morocco, in an oasis on the edge of the Sahara Desert. The entire castle is composed of traditional Moroccan mud houses, mostly built with a mixture of licorice and terracotta. The appearance is slightly rough, but at a glance outside the ancient city, you can be shocked by its spectacular and sacred pattern. As early as 1987, it was listed as a World Cultural Heritage. Walking into the ancient city, you will find that these golden red adobe castles and turrets seem to have drilled out from the ground, which are stunning and dramatic. People can't help but admire the local construction technology, especially under the sunlight, these castles are even more charming. This place not only attracts tourists from all over the world, but also Hollywood directors favor this charming ancient city. Many movies that are popular with movie fans around the world have been filmed here, including "The Lost Tomb", "Star Wars Prequel", "Mission Impossible V", etc., so the ancient city of Haddou has also won the title of Hollywood in North Africa and has become a holy place for many movie lovers. Nordic style is displayed in Ifrane. I saw the cedar tree. The stone lion in Figure 8 is the symbol of the city. There is a new tourist project: the sightseeing train! This place is known as Little Switzerland! It’s a pity that there are no people and cars during the epidemic.

Fez Medina, the most famous and oldest ancient city in Morocco, the first Islamic city in the history of North Africa, is a treasure of Islamic civilization and Moroccan culture. Its old city has a history of nearly 1,200 years. It is one of the largest existing typical medieval-style cities in the world. It has been the center of religion, culture and art in Morocco for more than a thousand years. It is also one of the four imperial cities of Morocco and has been listed as Entered into world cultural heritage. The old market of Fez is so large that it is known as the largest in the world. The winding lanes of the city are the easiest to get lost in. There are more than a thousand handicraft shops, inheriting ancient and famous traditional craft techniques. Each one is set up in a very narrow maze-like lane, as if life has not changed for hundreds of years. The daily life of local residents has been integrated with religion, becoming a real-life social and humanistic museum.

The magnificent Fez Palace is full of typical Islamic architectural style, with arch-shaped shapes, colorful tile mosaics and collage patterns, etc. The overall architecture is magnificent and exquisite. Especially the 7 gates in front of the palace, each gate is inlaid with beautiful tiles and carvings, as well as beautiful patterns, which also add a gorgeous atmosphere to the palace architecture! Since the palace is not open to the public, the general public can only appreciate the beauty of the palace architecture in the square outside the palace [tears][tears] 156th day of marriage travel, 10th country Morocco

The scale is definitely not as large as the ancient cities of Fez and Marrakech, but the things sold in it are the same, clothes, daily necessities, food, leather goods, spices, etc. It also feels dirty, the only advantage is that it is not easy to get lost.
