Nanjiang Grand Canyon

4.4/5
890 reviews
The Nanjiang Grand Canyon is located in Kaiyang County, northeast of Guiyang. The canyon features typical karst landscapes, with towering cliffs framing a crystal-clear river and numerous waterfalls cascading down the rock faces, creating breathtaking scenery. Visitors can stroll along the cliffside boardwalks to admire the canyon views or experience the thrilling rafting adventure for an extra dose of excitement. The rafting starting point is conveniently located next to the parking lot at the main entrance. Those who prefer walking can take a free electric shuttle from the entrance into the attraction. The shuttle route runs alongside the river where rafting takes place, but there aren't many scenic spots to see along this section for walking visitors. Admission ticket holders enjoy complimentary round-trip shuttle rides. The main scenic areas begin at the shuttle's final stop, where attractions are primarily divided into...Tizi Rock Scenic AreaIt consists of two main parts: the Luoguchong Scenic Area. First, pass through the Tianmen Cave Tunnel to reachTizi Rock Scenic AreaAlong the way, you'll see the collapsed hornfels rocks, valleys shaped like trumpets that are narrow inside and wide outside, and just a short walk further is the Tiziyan Resort.Tiziyan RestaurantYou can grab a bite to recharge here, as this restaurant is also the endpoint for the leisure rafting. Then continue along the boardwalk, where you'll see unique vegetation like tree roots entwined around rocks and trees growing from stone crevices. The lush karst cliffs on both sides and the fresh air make for a refreshing walk. Along the way, you'll encounter stunning waterfalls cascading down the cliffs, such as Tianwaitian Waterfall, Golden Bell Waterfall formed on calcified rocks, and Wanzhu Waterfall. You can also admire peculiar rock formations, like the square-shaped "Nanjiang Seal" boulder in the middle of the river. The trail ends at a vast lake calledYuanyang LakeThis is the Luogu Chong attraction. Nanjiang Grand Canyon offers two rafting options: a 5-kilometer leisure rafting and an 8-kilometer adventure rafting. The adventure rafting covers the full route, while the leisure rafting is essentially the first half of the adventure route. The rafting starts at the main entrance of the attraction, where the water flows gently. After passing one of the landmark waterfalls, Shuiluo Tingtai, and reaching Caozitang, you'll arrive at the endpoint of the leisure rafting, where you can disembark.Tiziyan RestaurantIf it's an exciting rafting experience, continue past the leisure rafting endpoint and go all the way to the bottom.Yuanyang Lakeget off there. Whether travelers are hiking or rafting, when they arrive atYuanyang LakeThere are two ways to return to the main entrance of the attraction. One isYuanyang LakeFirst take the cable car to the mountaintop. If you choose to hike up, you'll need to climb over 900 steep steps. At the summit, you can take the free attraction shuttle back to the entrance. If you miss the cable car or prefer not to take it, you can return via the same plank walk. Nanjiang Grand Canyon's specialty cuisine not only features the signature Guizhou flavors of "spicy richness, tangy freshness, aromatic depth, and hearty taste," but also contains abundant selenium minerals for added nutrition. Be sure to try the selenium-rich cured meat. Other local delicacies include wild game, the colorful-scaled Nanjiang small flower fish, and wild mushrooms. Inside the attraction,Tiziyan RestaurantThese dishes are all available. One day is more than enough to explore Nanjiang Grand Canyon, making accommodation within the attraction unnecessary. However, if you're a photography enthusiast waiting for the beautiful light at dusk or dawn, or if you want to savor the canyon scenery in detail, there are lodging options available at the Tiziyan Resort in the middle section of the attraction, the nearby Buyi Village, or the Luoguchong Resort at the attraction's endpoint, Luoguchong. Xianghuo Rock Scenic Area is named after the magical natural shrine onBanbian Mountain. The scenic area features towering peaks, rugged rocks, waterfalls, and springs, creating a spectacular landscape. The shrineis located in the middle of the scenic area, beneathBanbian Mountain, on a cliff approx. 500 m wide and over 100 m high. Inside the niche, a majestic Buddha figure is faintly visible; it appears man-made but is actually a natural formation. Facing it stands a stone peak that looks like a person bowing in worship, creating a seamless and wondrous scene. Xianghuo Rock Great Waterfall is located between the shrine and the stone figure. The river narrows and steepens here, suddenly revealing an eight-tier waterfall. It has a total drop of approx. 250 m and is 40 m wide, surrounded by forests, mist, and occasional rainbows. Follow the steps up from the Waterfall Viewing Pavilion along the winding mountain path, lined with exotic trees, intertwined vines, and dense foliage blocking the sun. After walking approx. 800 m, you will suddenly encounter a sight—Dishui Pool. The dripping water sounds like a zither, and the deep pool resembles a crouching dragon, offering a sense of serenity in a secluded spot. Continue along the small path, which seems to lead nowhere, until you suddenly reach a large cave called "Tuyun Cave." The cave entrance is shrouded in mist, and inside are rugged rocks, hanging stalactites, and dense underground rivers with rushing water that sounds like thunder. The two-cave natural bridge is magnificent and is known as the "No. 1 Natural Bridge in Central Guizhou." The bridge is approx. 300 m wide, approx. 50 m high, and has a span of approx. 40 m. A "skylight" is naturally formed in the center of the bridge top, where sunlight pours in and water drips like snow. It is truly a fairyland on earth.Kaiyang · 12.9km from downtown

Upon arrival, head to the ticket counter to print your ticket and purchase any optional video package. There is also free baggage storage available in the building. The high-speed train from Guiyang North Station to Nanjiang takes 45 minutes. From there, a bus costs 5 yuan per person to reach the scenic area. Various small equipment items and waterproof phone cases are very cheap, so don't worry about being overcharged. After the leisurely rafting, most people will buy tickets for the more exciting rafting; the kids want to go again!

The rafting at Nanjiang Grand Canyon was fantastic! The karst canyon scenery was beautiful, and the kids had a blast – definitely worth experiencing. It wasn't as dangerous as I'd imagined; we didn't see any boats capsize during our entire rafting trip, so there's no need to worry too much. Getting soaked is inevitable, but you can retrieve your bags afterward, and there are hot showers and changing rooms, plus free ginger tea, so it wasn't too cold. In short, none of my previous concerns came true. Rafting in Guizhou is truly top-notch, and I'm so glad I didn't miss it. Furthermore, transportation was very convenient. The 15 RMB, 30-minute high-speed train was quick and easy, and the direct shuttle bus from the train station to the scenic area was also convenient. The whole trip went smoothly, making it a very enjoyable day.

This place is so refreshing in the summer! There are water trails, stream tracing, and waterfall crossings. There's water everywhere, so it's not sunny at all. You can play here all day and feel super comfortable. It's so cool and fun that you don't want to leave!

The Taoyuan River rafting is excellent, offering plenty of excitement and being relatively safe, but it must be done on a sunny day because the water is extremely cold. Overall, it's all worth it.

The height of the waterfall seems to be higher than the orchard, with a momentum of cascading down three thousand feet. It is quiet and deep, and you must go and see it. It is worth a visit.

We went as a family during the National Day holiday, and it was a lot of fun. The light show and the iron flower display at night were beautiful. I accompanied my parents, who are over 70 years old. There were some steps in the scenic area, which were a bit tiring for their legs, but we could manage by walking slowly. The whole family was very happy.
