West Lake Scenic Area is the core of Hangzhou's landscape, surrounded by mountains on three sides and the city on the other. The Su Causeway and Bai Causeway stretch across the lake, dividing it into several smaller sections. The most exquisite sights around the lake are undoubtedly the "Ten Scenes of West Lake" passed down from the Southern Song Dynasty. Including the later "New Ten Scenes of West Lake" and the "Three Appraisals of the Ten Scenes of West Lake," hundreds of scenic spots unfold along the lakeshore and mountains. Pavilions, temples, pagodas, gardens, islands, and distant mountains and nearby waters complement each other. The legend of the Broken Bridge, where the White Snake and Xu Xian met, adds a touch of history to the lake and mountains. There's no need to insist on visiting every single spot; simply strolling along a stretch of the lakeshore is enough to bring you bliss. You can explore West Lake by walking, cycling, taking a sightseeing electric cart around the lake, or by boat. The electric cart route circles the entire lake, saving you energy and making it convenient. cycling along the lake is leisurely and romantic, and there are many public bicycle rental points along the shore. If you want to take a boat, there are several docks along the lake offering different types of boats and routes. It is highly recommended to take a boat to Three Pools Mirroring the Moon in the center of the lake and enjoy the lake views from the boat. Alternatively, you can hire a rowboat on the lake shore and have a boatman row you around the lake, which is more free and flexible. The attractions on the north bank are concentrated. A typical starting point is the Broken Bridge in the northeast corner, walking along the Bai Causeway to Gushan Island. Along the way, you can see cultural landmarks such as the Xiling Seal Society, Zhejiang Provincial Museum, China Seal Art Museum, and the Fanghe Pavilion in Zhongshan Park. Enjoy a bowl of authentic West Lake Vinegar Fish at Lou Wai Lou restaurant, then cross the Xiling Bridge to Yue Fei Temple and Quyuan Fenghe. In the summer, when the sun is strong, consider taking the North Mountain Road instead, finding shade under the dense trees to admire the curves of the Broken Bridge and the swaying willows on the Bai Causeway. There are many entrances along the way to Baoshi Mountain for panoramic views. The "Most Memorable is Hangzhou" live performance on Yue Lake in the evening is also worth seeing. If you have enough time and energy, you can also walk along the Su Causeway from the Yue Fei Temple area for a complete walk and a panoramic view of West Lake. The area along the southeastern shore, from Hubin Road to Nanshan Road, is another densely populated area of attractions. Hubin Road is located at the junction of the city center and the attraction area, adjacent to the city's commercial district, making it suitable for tourists with limited time to stop briefly. The lakeside also features a landmark musical fountain and a cruise dock. Walking south along Nanshan Road from Hubin Road, you'll find attractions like Liulang Wenying (Listening to Orioles Singing in the Willows), the Long Bridge, Leifeng Pagoda, and Nanping Evening Bell, all lined up along the way. Further west is Huagang Guanyu (Viewing Fish at Flower Harbor). It's convenient to walk or take a tour bus between these adjacent attractions, allowing you to choose which ones to visit based on your preferences. Leifeng Pagoda and Nanping Evening Bell are best visited in the evening; listening to the bell at Jingci Temple and climbing Leifeng Pagoda to overlook the lake and mountains at dusk are both excellent experiences.China · Hangzhou

Zhu Ran Cemetery, located in Yushan Township, south of the urban area, is the tomb of Zhu Ran, a general of the Three Kingdoms Soochow. Excavated in June 1984, many precious cultural relics were unearthed, and some lacquer wares filled the gap in the art history of the Three Kingdoms, and was listed as one of the top ten archaeological discoveries in China in the 1980s. There is a museum of cultural relics in the cemetery. The exhibition hall is an antique building in the style of the Han Dynasty. The museum is based on the tomb body, simple and dignified. The middle part of the hall in the museum is a tomb, and a coffin is placed in the cave. There are cultural relics unearthed from the tomb, pictures of Zhu Ran's tomb research, and Chinese and foreign documents. During the visit, tourists can appreciate the social style of the Three Kingdoms period more than 1700 years ago. The tomb passage is located in the south of the tomb pit and is stepped, with a total of 26 steps and a slope of 19 degrees. The tomb passage is 9.10 meters long, and the soil color is the same as that of the seal. The tomb pit is under the sealing soil, the upper mouth is 35 cm deep from the ground, and the shape of the tomb pit is irregular. The bottom of the pit is slightly smaller than the mouth of the pit, and it is 3.60 meters deep from the upper mouth of the tomb. The walls of the tomb are not smooth, and the pits are filled with gray-white soil. The tomb is located in the middle of the tomb pit and is built with bricks. Measured from the outside, the total length is 8.70 meters and the width is 3.54 meters. The floor tiles inside are paved with herringbone patterns, and the walls are laid in the "three-shun-one-ding" method. The "four-corner coupon entry" dome is lowered, and the altar is built with two layers of bricks on the left and right sides. A lacquered wooden coffin was placed in the room as a burial for his wife and concubines. The passage between the front and rear chambers is located on the left, and the shape and method of building are the same as the corridor. In the back room is a lacquered wooden coffin slightly larger than the front room, which is the burial utensil of the tomb owner Zhu Ran. The inner and outer surfaces of the wooden coffin are covered with a layer of linen, which is painted greasy. Black lacquer is used on the outside of the coffin, and red lacquer is used inside. More than 140 burial objects were unearthed in Zhu Ran's tomb, including lacquered wood, porcelain, pottery, and bronze, among which lacquered wood accounted for about 57 percent. Many lacquerware are painted with stories of characters and patterns of flora and fauna.Ma'anshan · 1.3km from downtown

Nanjing Hongshan Forest Zoo is located in the north of Nanjing, built along three hills: Dahongshan, Fangniushan, and Xiaohongshan. With a green coverage rate of over 85%, the rolling hills form a unique forest view. The zoo brings together rare wild animals from around the world and adopts an immersive multi-species mixed-housing model, allowing animals to naturally express their instincts in environments that simulate their native habitats. The nearly 30 venues in the park are divided into three major zones by hill. The Dàhóngshān zone is mainly home to fierce beasts and native species, including the Tiger Area, Bear Area, Chinese Felid House, Felid Planet, Wolf Area, Native Species Conservation Area, Meerkat House, Monkey Hill, and Giraffe House; the Fàngniúshān zone brings together the Koala House, Gaoligong Exhibition Area, Gondwana Exhibition Area, Asian Primate Area, Orangutan House, and Hippo House; the Xiǎohóngshān zone is mainly composed of bird exhibition areas, including the Tropical Bird House, Hornbill Garden, Muntjac and Reeve's Muntjac Slope, Parrot House, Pheasant Garden, and Rare Bird Garden. Among them, the Gondwana Exhibition Area is themed on the ancient continent of Gondwana, presenting the ecological landscape of species from the Southern Hemisphere; the Gaoligong Exhibition Area focuses on the biodiversity of Gaoligong Mountain in Yunnan; and the Native Species Conservation Area is dedicated to the conservation and wild release of China's native wildlife, making it one of the park's signature exhibition areas. Both the Koala House and the Giant Panda House are popular venues in the park. Nanjing Hongshan Forest Zoo was among the first domestic zoos to cancel animal performances and stop visitor feeding activities. With the core philosophy of "everything for the animals," it focuses on ecological renovation of venues and improvement of animal welfare. The park also undertakes the rescue and rehabilitation of wildlife in the Jiangsu region, rescuing a large number of injured and stray wild animals every year.Nanjing · 54.6km from Ma'anshan

My second visit to West Lake was great; the boat tour was excellent. The dock was easy to find, the staff were very friendly, provided clear explanations, and helped with any issues. There were also sightseeing buses, which were nice but a bit pricey. Taking the boat tour and then walking around was both perfectly fine.

The Zhu Ran Tomb Museum in Ma'anshan, which is not even a popular attraction in the local area, should have been heard of by few people nationwide. But in the eyes of a poor student who once studied art history for five years, this museum can be regarded as one of the most low-key treasures of art history in China. Zhu Ran, who participated in the operation to capture Guan Yu and set fire to Liu Bei with Lu Xun, was a little famous in the Three Kingdoms. But the importance of the museum does not lie in the identity of the tomb owner, but in the batch of lacquerware unearthed in the tomb. We know that the history of Chinese painting is long, but the works that are really painted on paper or silk are basically no earlier than the Tang Dynasty because the materials are very difficult to preserve. There are many records of paintings from the Eastern Han Dynasty to the Three Kingdoms period in ancient books, and even many names of painters are left, but there has always been a lack of factual basis. The lacquerware in Zhu Ran's tomb directly fills the gap in the art history of this period. This batch of lacquerware was a high-end handicraft at the time. One of them has the words "Shujun Zuolao" on the back, which should be a product customized by the Shu Han workshop for Dongwu customers at that time. Lacquer paintings are mainly based on figures, some depicting court banquets, singing and dancing, and aristocratic life scenes, as well as historical stories, which are a true display of the painting techniques of the time. The figures have rounded lines and different movements and expressions. Compared with the silk paintings or brick carvings of the Western Han Dynasty, they are more vivid and vivid. They are similar to the style of drum-beating and rapping figurines of the earlier period, allowing people to get a glimpse of the painting art style of the Eastern Han Dynasty and the Three Kingdoms period. This time, we took advantage of the Mid-Autumn Festival holiday to visit. The museum is in the center of Ma'anshan, but it is unusually quiet. There were only two visitors throughout the whole process. Friends who are interested in art, if you travel to Ma'anshan, you must not miss it and go to the scene to appreciate the Chinese painting treasures 1,800 years ago.

Check-in was quick, and they assigned me a quiet room on the side as requested. The room had a window with a side-opening screen, which was a thoughtful touch. The room was cleaned daily, and supplies were replenished as needed. The breakfast was particularly noteworthy; it was delicious and offered a wide variety of options, including Western and Chinese dishes, as well as freshly made food. A great feature was that you could customize the seasoning to your liking.

Fantasy Kingdom is indeed a bit old; its rides and attractions aren't as good as Oriental Mythology, and it closes at 5:30 PM. However, the shows are still quite good. I watched most of the shows and performances, and only went on a few rides before it was almost over. Oriental Mythology has a wider variety of more exciting rides, and I had a great time even though it closes at 9 PM.

After visiting Niushou Mountain, a night tour of Jinling (Nanjing) is highly recommended, especially at sunset when the sky is a soft blue. Witness the elegance of the Six Dynasties era, with its iconic peacock-blue glazed tiles. The atmosphere is incredibly charming as you quietly await the evening lights coming on. Wenxin Pavilion, Lingxiao Terrace, and Mantingfang offer breathtaking views at every turn, with pavilions, waterside terraces, and lantern-lit corridors reflected in the water like a dream. The regularly scheduled live performances are unique and entertaining, avoiding excessive commercialization and providing a truly immersive experience. With a gentle evening breeze and soft lighting, it feels like stepping back into ancient Jinling. This is a hidden gem in Nanjing's nightlife scene that shouldn't be missed, and it's definitely worth a special trip!

Although the park is named Cultural Park, after walking around, I did not find that the park has any special connection with culture. It is just an ordinary park with many flowers and plants.
