Jiudongtian Scenic Spot

Jiudongtian is located on the Liuzhong River at the junction of Dafang and Nayong counties. It is a national key scenic spot with a total length of about 6 kilometers and is divided into two sections. The underground river in the cave expands to form many lakes in the cave, and the water flow is stable. "Yidongtian" is a dry cave, which is spacious inside and is the entrance hall. It covers an area of more than 3,000 square meters and has an average height of 80 meters. The stalactites on the cave walls and ceilings are bizarre and magnificent. The "Second Cavern" is now used as a power generation cavern, which uses gates to control the water flow from a height of 11 meters to generate electricity. It is a rare natural cave power station without a plant in China, and is extremely economical. The "Three Caves" are tall, wide, winding and quiet. The stone wall on the left bank is extremely smooth, as if it was cut by a knife or an axe, and colorful stalactites are hanging on the wall on the right bank. "Four Caves" is a natural Attraction composed of multiple caves. The stalactites in the caves are like towers or palaces, crystal clear and lifelike. "Wudongtian" is a dark lake in the shape of a gourd, which is naturally formed by contracting at the top and expanding at the bottom. The "Six Caves" are connected natural bridge windows, the top of which is about 100 meters above the horizontal plane and is very dangerous. "Qidongtian" is a large dry cave with thousands of windows and holes, which are interconnected and can accommodate thousands of people. The entrance of the "Eight Caves" is only two or three meters wide, but tens of meters high, like a narrow alley in a tall building. The sunlight refracts into it, and the light and color of the water surface change endlessly. The caves in the "Nine Caves" are divided into three layers. The strange-shaped water caves and dark lakes in the lower layer are connected to the Eight Caves, and are connected in all directions. In the middle layer, there is a huge natural bridge 90 meters long and 120 meters wide, which is shaped like a "gate". Looking down at the water cave from the square under the bridge, it is mysterious. Looking up, the sky is drawn as two huge arcs, like the magpie bridge when the Cowherd and the Weaver Girl meet. The upper layer is a cave hall parallel to the natural bridge arch, with an area of about tens of thousands of square meters. Countless cave entrances are connected to each other, forming a three-dimensional maze, which is rare in the world.Dafang · 20.7km from Nayong

Huangguoshu Scenic Area

The Huangguoshu Scenic Area is located in Anshun, Guizhou, centered around the Huangguoshu Waterfall. Surrounded by deep gorges, dense vegetation, and dotted with limestone caves and stone forests, it is a typical karst landscape area. The waterfall's name originates from the locally abundant "Huangguoshu" (Ficus virens). Ming Dynasty traveler Xu Xiake visited and documented this site, contributing to its fame. The scenic area primarily consists of three main sections: the Great Waterfall, Tianxing Bridge, and Doupotang. Most travelers follow the sequence of Doupotang, Tianxing Bridge, and finally the Great Waterfall, saving the most spectacular view for last. The grand waterfall has a drop of nearly 80 m and a width of over 100 m. The Baishui River plunges from the cliff top into Rhinoceros Pool, creating a vast mist. Multiple viewing platforms around it allow visitors to experience its grandeur, wonder, steepness, and beauty from different angles—above, below, front, back, left, and right. A particularly unique experience lies behind the waterfall: a 100 m long Water Curtain Cave runs horizontally through its midsection, featuring cave windows and halls. Reaching through a window, one can touch the cascading water. The cave served as the filming location for the Water Curtain Cave in the 1986 TV series Journey to the West. Due to the heavy humidity inside, bringing a raincoat in advance is recommended. Tianxing Bridge is renowned for its harmonious blend of rocks, water, trees, and caves—where rocks rise from the water, caves hide within rocks, and trees stand beside caves. The stepping stones along the path are engraved with dates, allowing travelers to find their own "birthday stone." The attraction is divided into upper and lower sections. Many travelers turn back after completing the upper section, missing the Silver Chain Waterfall in the lower part—where water cascades like silver chains into a funnel-shaped pool, the highlight of Tianxing Bridge. The Doupotang waterfall is located approx. 1 km upstream from the grand waterfall. With a width of over 100 m at its crest, the water spreads out smoothly like a beaded curtain. During the high-water season, its deep roar earns it the nickname "roaring waterfall." The scene of the four pilgrims leading their horse across the river in the 1986 TV series Journey to the West was filmed here. In summer and fall, the waterfalls are full and powerful, while in winter and spring, the flow becomes gentler, offering different viewing experiences. Nearby, visitors can also enjoy local snacks like sticky rice, love tofu, and Anshun spring rolls.Zhenning · 92.3km from Nayong

Stone Forest Scenic Area

The Stone Forest Scenic Area is located in Shilin County, Kunming, and is one of the key attractions in the city. This scenic area showcases typical karst landforms, featuring stone peaks, pinnacles, sinkholes, and underground rivers. The towering rock formations take on various shapes—sword-like, pagoda-like, mushroom-like, and more—creating a breathtaking and fantastical landscape. The Stone Forest Scenic Area is divided into several widely spaced sections, with the Greater and Lesser Stone Forest attractions at its core. The Naigu Stone Forest is located approx. 12 km north of the main attractions, while the Dadie Waterfall scenic area sits approx. 29 km southwest. The Changhu Lake area is positioned 26 km southeast of the main site. When visitors refer to touring the Stone Forest, they typically mean exploring the Greater and Lesser Stone Forest sections. The Greater and Lesser Shilin are located in the same area. After purchasing tickets at the main entrance and walking along the path for 20 minutes, you'll find the smaller and more gently sloped Lesser Shilin Scenic Area on your left. Amidst the dense cluster of peaks stands the famous Ashima Stone, where the majestic karst formations resemble a graceful Yi ethnic maiden named Ashima, seemingly waving to visitors—a favorite photo spot for travelers. Beyond the striking Ashima, the Lesser Shilin area features other captivating views like the Steed and Pillar Supporting the Sky, each with unique shapes. This is where your imagination is put to the test. If you find your imagination lacking, we recommend hiring a guide who can offer fresh perspectives on these remarkable formations. As you drive leisurely along the highway, you'll encounter a series of remarkable rock formations lining the roadside—the Tang Monk Stone, Stone Prison, Phoenix Combing Its Wings, and Lingzhi Mushroom Rock—each vividly lifelike and exquisitely crafted by nature's artistry, presenting their unique postures to showcase Earth's wondrous creations. Strolling along the pathway, you'll unexpectedly arrive at the Great Stone Forest Scenic Area. After marveling at wonders like "Two Birds Sharing Food," "Rhinoceros Gazing at the Moon," "Lotus Peak," "Shilin Grand View," and "Stone Screen," you might feel slightly fatigued. Take a peaceful break at Lion Pavilion while admiring the inverted peaks reflected in Lion Pool across the way. After prolonged exposure to these karst formations, visual fatigue may set in—making it the perfect moment to shift perspectives. Board a cruise on Shilin Lake, where mountain vistas and water scenery converge into one breathtaking panorama, dissolving all stress and worries. If you prefer not to walk, electric carts driven by Yi ethnic women shuttle between attractions and stop upon request. You can still marvel at the wonders of the Stone Forest Scenic Area, and some friendly drivers may even share interesting local anecdotes along the way. Naigu Stone Forest, also known as New Stone Forest or Mozhai Stone Forest, is located 13 km north of the Stone Forest Scenic Area. It features a landscape composed of stone formations, Baiyun Lake, Shifeng Mountain, and Yougu Xianpu Waterfall. Compared to the Stone Forest Scenic Area, this site offers a distinct style. The towering gray-black stone pillars here are densely packed, resembling castles, towers, and mushrooms. The rugged, primitive rock formations surge skyward like waves, creating a majestic atmosphere. Walking through these dark peaks feels like stepping into a primeval world.China · Shilin

The Libo Seven Small Arches Scenic Area is located among the karst peaks south of the Libo County urban area. The attraction gets its name from a seven-arched bluestone bridge that crosses the noisy river there. The site incorporates all the beauty of mountains, water, trees, caves, lakes, and waterfalls. This natural splendor has combined with the authentic cultural flavor of the Tujia and Yao people of the area to bring fame to the area. Attractions like the ancient seven-arched bridge, the water forest, the crouching dragon pool, and Mandarin Duck Lake make the area like an earthly fairyland.China · Libo

Xijiang Qianhu Miao Village

8.6
4.3/5

Xijiang Qianhu Miao Village is a collection of over ten natural villages built along the mountainside, inhabited by the "Xi" clan of the Miao people. The village features layers of wooden stilt houses on the slopes, with coffee-colored old houses nestled against lush green mountains. The Baishui River divides the village in two. The side of the river (to the left after entering the Xiaobei Gate for travelers) is mainly a commercial pedestrian street, while the opposite side (to the right after entering the Xiaobei Gate for travelers) is primarily the viewing platform overlooking the village. Upon arriving at Xijiang Qianhu Miao Village, you'll see a gate with the plaque "Xijiang Qianhu Miao Village" after getting off at the parking lot. From this gate to the village is a 1.5 km walk, which you can cover either by electric bikes or on foot. After this 1.5 km stretch, you'll encounter another gate similar to the one at the parking lot, also bearing the "Xijiang Qianhu Miao Village" plaque—this marks the true entrance to the village. First drink the welcoming wine, then enter the village. The first thing you see is the commercial pedestrian street, selling a dazzling array of Miao ethnic specialty products. The most eye-catching are the Miao silver ornaments. Kongbai in Xijiang town of Leishan near the Miao village is a well-known silversmith village, where almost all the men master the silver ornament making techniques, and the craftsmanship of Miao silver is exquisite. The performance venue in the pedestrian street area offers Miao ethnic song and dance shows. You can also visit the Xijiang Miao Ethnic Museum and the Drum Head's House (the Miao king's residence, where a bronze drum is enshrined). Alternatively, take a stroll along the Baishui River to see the wind-and-rain bridges with roofed eaves sheltering from the elements, or the low, narrow wooden plank bridges. At the end of the village lies a pastoral landscape, where even during peak season few visitors come. Across the river is a station for electric bikes to the viewing platform, but walking there isn't far, and several spots along the way offer excellent views. Upon reaching the viewing platform, wait for nightfall—the grand spectacle of Xijiang is just beginning. Thousands of lights illuminate from beneath the eaves of wooden stilt houses, dotted like stars to outline the entire Miao village in the shape of an ox head. It's hard to imagine such a brilliantly lit scene in a mountain village. Returning to the viewing platform at dawn, the Miao village is shrouded in mist as the first sunlight gilds the wooden houses golden. Smoke curls up from chimneys, marking the start of a new day. In Miao villages, you can often see Miao women with their hair buns coiled on top of their heads and adorned with large flowers. Just looking isn't enough—you can also rent a few sets of Miao costumes to dress up as a Miao woman yourself. It's especially beautiful and very popular among young women. Xijiang Qianhu Miao Village has mature tourism development, with no worries about food and accommodation. For dining, the famous option is the long-table banquet. Restaurants in the village will often ask if you'd like to try it—simply joining tables to make them longer counts as a long-table banquet, serving as a fun experience. The authentic long-table banquet is held outdoors, with dozens of tables connected end-to-end, sometimes so long that you can't see from one end to the other. These are set up during important festivals or when significant group tours visit, so don't miss the chance if you encounter one. The cuisine of southeastern Guizhou tends to be sour, and the village's specialty dishes include sour fish soup, pickled vegetables, and cured meat.China · Leishan

Huaxi Yelang Valley is located in a small canyon at the foot of the Cape Mountain in Huaxi University City, Gui'an New District. The opposite Cape Mountain is said to have been the residence of Queen Yelang's successor to Jinzhusi. To this day, the ruins of the ancient Yelang Tun Fort are still preserved on the top of the mountain, and Yelang Valley is also named after it. The scenery is beautiful; the highlight is the boat ride inside the cave. I recommend entering from the west and exiting from the west. Parking is convenient at the west gate. First, take a 3-minute sightseeing bus, then walk for about 10 minutes, then take another 5-minute sightseeing bus to the Natural Bridge to board the boat. If you have a one-way ticket, make sure to climb the stairs on your right when you reach the boarding area; the rest of the way is downhill, which is more convenient for the elderly and children. Finally, take the boat back from the east gate to the west gate. If you take the boat to the east gate first and then walk back to the west gate, it's all uphill stairs and will be very physically demanding!

Geography and natural landscape Diaoshuiyan Waterfall is about 10 kilometers away from Nayong County and is located in the hinterland of the Mahuiling Mountains. The landform features a multi-level stepped waterfall group. The water flows like silver silk through the clouds and mist, and finally falls into the green lake, stirring up thousands of layers of water mist. The largest waterfall is 210 meters high and is divided into two levels. The first level is 130 meters high and the second level is 80 meters high. It is majestic and thunderous. During the flood season, the width of the waterfall can reach 30 meters, and the roar can be heard for miles. The scenic area has the climate characteristics of "one mountain has four seasons, and the four seasons are different". In summer, the foot of the mountain is cool and pleasant, but the top of the mountain is steaming with clouds and mist; in winter, the top of the mountain is cold and windy, and the foot of the mountain is warm like spring.

A fantastic attraction! We visited the Grand Canyon in the morning and Zhijin Cave in the afternoon, perfectly avoiding the crowds. We strolled around the cave, stopping frequently, and hired a professional guided tour, which lasted about two hours. I highly recommend hiring one, otherwise you'll just be wandering around aimlessly and miss a lot of exciting content. Also, be aware that the cave has outhouses; those who know, know. I advise everyone to use the restroom before entering the cave.

I've visited Huangguoshu Waterfall Scenic Area three times over 30 years. It's considered one of the most beautiful waterfalls in Asia, and the town of Huangguoshu is also quite well-developed. Although the water flow was lower this year, it was still incredibly magnificent, powerful, and thunderous. This time, I had the opportunity to fully appreciate the unique features of the waterfalls in all three sections. If the main waterfall is the head of the family, powerful and imposing, then the upstream Doupotang Waterfall is the steady son, refined and elegant, while the downstream Yinlian Waterfall is the emerald green jade, endlessly captivating and always brimming with charm!

Choosing the right accommodation is crucial when visiting the Miao Village! The view from Luanxi is absolutely stunning; you can admire the stilted houses and the lights of countless homes right from your room, without having to squeeze onto the viewing platform. It's just steps from the popular photo spots, the room was impeccably clean, and the bedding was comfortable. Once we arrived at the scenic area, the butler helped with our luggage, explained the sightseeing routes, and recommended some delicious restaurants – we ate there twice! The hotel offers afternoon tea and a bedtime soup; highly recommended, I'll definitely stay here again next time I visit the Miao Village.

For families with children visiting Zhijin, the 5A-rated Zhijin Cave is highly recommended. It's a natural water-eroded cave with a temperature around 10 degrees Celsius! The stalactites and stalagmites inside are incredibly diverse and will spark your imagination! The various gorge entrances and boat rides within the cave are unique features. It will leave you in awe of nature's artistry! Arriving at the scenic area at 9 am meant there were no parking spaces left, so we opted for the 10 yuan parking lot at the Grand Canyon exit. From the exit, we took a 108-meter-high ladder down, followed by a relatively easy walk down the mountain path. Along the way, we saw natural bridges, waterfalls, and Buddha statues – a truly breathtaking experience. We entered the "Ten Thousand Swallows Returning to Their Nest" area, took a 10 yuan boat ride to the other side, and then took a sightseeing bus back to the entrance. A free shuttle bus from the entrance took us to the visitor center. After getting off, we transferred back to our car at the exit for lunch. At 1 pm, we took another shuttle bus to Zhijin Cave, taking photos with the various stalactites and stalagmites along the way. The visit took about two hours. Overall, the pace was from easy to difficult, making it a manageable trip for children! (^в^)

The oddly shaped stones were quite interesting. There weren't many people during the Chinese New Year, so the experience was good. However, many small shops were closed, and transportation wasn't very convenient. It was rather quiet due to the holiday.
