• Explore one of the world's most important architectural heritage sites • Uncover the history as you walk amongst amazing ruins • See the imposing columns of the Parthenon – the most imitated building in the world △The Acropolis is located southwest of the center of Athens, perched on the top of the Acropolis hill more than 150 meters high. It is a landmark of the city and a symbol of ancient Greece. The Acropolis was built in 580 BC. Acropolis means "high city-state" in Greek. The east, south and north sides of the hill are cliffs, which can be said to be a natural barrier. △[Temple of Erechtheion] Legend has it that it was the place where Athena and Poseidon, the god of the sea, battled wits over being the protector of Athens. This temple is famous for its six caryatids on the south side. △On the top of the Acropolis, there are ruins and cliffs, and you can feel every trace of history.Greece · Athens

Acropolis of Ancient Sparta

Acropolis of Ancient Sparta

The ancient theater dates back to the early Roman times and it is considered as one of the largest in Ancient Greece. It preserves the orchestra, the retaining walls of the cavea and part of the cavea. There are two phases in its construction, with the first dating to the late Hellenistic period. Its monumental construction occupies an area of fourteen acres, while its capacity reached 16.000 spectators and had two tiers. The cavea, which had an opening of 140 meters, was built around 30-20 BC, with white marble and was supported by two retaining walls, to the south. At the top there was a perimetrical gallery to protect spectators from the bad weather. The original scene was made of wood and was wheeled in metal bars fixed to the ground. Later, the scene became permanent. The horseshoe-shaped orchestra of the theater, 25 m in diameter, was paved with red-white marble slabs, giving an impressive aesthetic result. In the eastern retaining walls of the cavea there are inscriptions of the rulers of Sparta during Roman times.Sparta · 1.1km from downtown

Oia

Oia is located on the northern cape of Santorini, built along the cliffs, with white-walled, blue-domed houses and churches layered along the inner cliffs of the caldera. Sunset is the most iconic view here. Each evening, visitors follow the main path to the town's western end. The west end has two main free viewing spots: one is a seaside platform beside the castle ruins, where the remaining stone tower walls hang on the cliff edge, offering expansive views, and the other is a small square below the windmills, where several traditional windmills are silhouetted against the sunset. You can also book a cliffside restaurant in advance and dine while watching the sun sink below the horizon. The town is also worth exploring slowly during the day. Walking the cliff path through narrow white alleys, you will pass several blue-domed churches, and the three connected blue-domed churches make the classic postcard scene. A few old windmills stand at the town's northern end, another iconic view. At night, shops along the stone alleys mostly stay open late, and bars gradually become lively. If you have time, choose a seafront cave house for a night, and when you open the window you will see the sea toward the caldera.Greece · Santorini

Beautiful and magnificent. Wear comfortable shoes and take a hat. I wasn’t well prepared for the amount of walking.

As evening falls in Santorini, tourists have already found their vantage points, sitting or standing quietly, waiting. The once bustling paths gradually empty out, the crowds converging on the cliff edge, becoming the first fixed scene before sunset. Standing on the steps of the blue and white houses, watching the sunset transform the sky from orange-pink to golden-red, then slowly into a golden hue, the town itself seems draped in a golden veil, so beautiful it makes you forget everything. Finally, the entire sunset glow sinks into the Aegean Sea, even the surface is covered with shimmering gold, the wind carries the light scent of sea salt and olive trees, there is no noise, only the sound of the waves lapping the shore, slowing down along with the light and shadow.

This was taken on the Acropolis: Temple of Victory (Figure 3), Parthenon (Figure 5. Still under renovation), Erechtheion (Figures 4 and 5), Dionysus Theatre, Atticus Theatre. The guided tour I bought a day in advance was very good. We set off at 5pm, just as the sun was about to set. It was not hot at all, and there were not many tourists. The tour guide was a historian, and the content he introduced along the way was very detailed. Including the story behind the construction of the Acropolis Museum, the trees on the Acropolis Hill, the Acropolis has experienced several disasters and historical changes, Athens' efforts in the field of international recovery of cultural relics (to the British Museum), the story of Dionysus, the god of medicine, the goddess of war, the goddess of wisdom, and the three main gods Poseidon. Another surprise is that there are so many cats in the Acropolis! They are the only guests who can enter and exit the temple at will. The staff will regularly put cat food for the stray cats.
