Dishui cave is seated in Shaoshan, Xiangtan, Mao Zedong's hometown. The water continuously drips all year round, hence the name "Dishui", which means to drip. The dripping water almost sounds like the sound of a piano. The mountain peaks are capped with green. The trees are lush. The bamboo is slender, and the natural landscape is elegant. Below Dishui cave lies Mao Zedong's ancestral home, Dongmaodishui Cave. There is a gate built on this mountain, the top of which is lined with gray stone stalactites inscribed with four characters, “Di Shui Dong Tian”, translated as “the dripping water cave”. The first building encountered at Dishui Cave is known as The Chairman's Villa. It is a simple brick and tiled house where Mao Zedong lived in years gone by. It has now been restored into a showroom filled with items used by the Chairman when he lived there.Shaoshan · 6.1km from downtown

Shaofeng is the 71st peak of Hengshan Mountain Range and the highest peak of Shaoshan. It is also known as the Fairy Peak. Because of the legend of "Shao Music", it is also called the "Music Peak". Shaofeng has beautiful scenery. There are eight ancient scenic spots: Shaofeng Towering Green, Yanzhi Ancient Well, Dunshichengmen, Stone House Green Wind, Taling Clear Clouds, Fairy Thatched Hut, Fengyi Pavilion Site, Stone Wall Flowing Water. The ancients praised Shaofeng as: "The fairyland has always been called Shaofeng, and the pen cuts three mountains into the sky. Among the 360 famous mountains in the world, this is the first mountain in the south of the Yangtze River." Shaofeng is surrounded by mountains and lush bamboo forests. The whole mountain is beautiful and has pine and cypress trees. The Qingtan County Chronicles records that the three daughters of the Huan family came from Changsha and chose this place to build a nunnery, practice meditation, and ascended to heaven in broad daylight. This story makes Shaofeng mysterious, and also makes this mountain full of masculine energy have a feminine and soft beauty. The towering green of Shao Mountain is the first of the eight sceneries. Climbing to the top and looking into the distance, you can take in the entire beauty of Shao Mountain, which is refreshing and pleasant.Shaoshan · 8.7km from downtown

Orange Isle Scenic Area

Orange Isle Scenic Area is a narrow sandbar lying across the heart of the Xiang River in Changsha, stretching approx. five km. It faces Yuelu Mountain to the west and borders Changsha's old city to the east, surrounded by water on all sides. Named after the abundant orange trees planted on the isle, it was historically called Shuiluzhou. Formed by river alluvium, this sandbar has existed for over a millennium, where the "River and sky in evening snow" scenery was once among the Eight Views of Xiaoxiang. In 1925, the poem "Spring in a pleasure garden - Changsha" was composed here, with its iconic line "Alone I stand in the biting fall, watching the Xiang River flow north past Orange Isle's head," which made this riverine landmark widely renowned. The highlights of the visit are concentrated at the islet's head: A granite art sculpture over 30 m tall, modeled after the 1925 youth image, stands facing the river as Changsha's highly recognizable landmark. Nearby, the Questioning Heaven Platform extends toward the river center, where leaning on the railing reveals the mighty Xiang River flowing northward, with Yuelu Mountain and the city skylines on both banks facing each other across the water. The Songju Pavilion, white marble poetry stele, and the 200-year-old ancient phoenix tree at the islet head are all in this area. Heading north from the islet head, a hundred-acre orange orchard bears golden fruits in fall, while bamboo groves, peach orchards, plum gardens, and osmanthus groves take turns showcasing seasonal flora. The historic Zhuzhang Ferry (where Zhu Xi and Zhang Shi once crossed the Xiang River for lectures) and the Huxiang Culture Exhibition Hall are scattered along the way. At the islet's tail, the reconstructed Jiangshen Temple and Gongji Tower area was precisely where ancients admired the "River and sky in evening snow" scenery. The island is long and narrow, making round-trip walks quite tiring. A sightseeing train is available for transportation, with multiple stops along the way for hopping on and off. Travelers with limited time are advised to head straight to the island's tip to see the sculpture and river views, then stroll leisurely along the riverside path. At dusk, watching the sunset over the Xiang River and seeing the lights gradually illuminate both shores from the island's tip is especially worth setting aside time for.Changsha · 39.7km from Xiangtan

Shaoshan, the hometown of Chairman Mao Zedong, is a renowned red tourism destination in China, possessing a profound historical and cultural heritage and unique commemorative significance. Whether it's worth visiting depends on your interests and travel purpose. Here is a detailed assessment and recommendations: Reasons to Visit: * **Red Education Significance:** * **Mao Zedong's Former Residence:** A well-preserved childhood residence of Chairman Mao, offering insights into his upbringing and family background. * **Mao Zedong Memorial Hall:** Exhibits numerous precious artifacts, photographs, and historical materials, systematically showcasing Chairman Mao's life and the history of the Chinese revolution. * **Bronze Statue Square:** Pay homage to the bronze statue of Chairman Mao, participate in the flower-laying ceremony, and experience the solemn atmosphere. * **Combination of Nature and Culture:** Shaoshan boasts beautiful scenery, surrounded by natural landscapes such as Shaofeng Peak and Dishuidong Cave, combining historical and natural beauty. The area retains the traditional architectural style of central Hunan, with some areas exuding pastoral charm. * **Convenient Transportation:** From Changsha, a high-speed train takes approximately 30 minutes to reach Shaoshan South Station, followed by a shuttle bus (approximately 20 minutes), making it suitable for a day trip. * **Unique Experiences:** Savor Hunan local dishes such as Mao-style braised pork and smoked fish. Purchase red-themed cultural and creative souvenirs (pay attention to quality). Potential drawbacks: Crowds: High visitor volume during holidays or anniversaries may affect the experience. Commercialization: Some areas are densely packed with shops; be mindful of your spending. Preference differences: Those not particularly interested in modern history may find the content somewhat monotonous. Travel recommendations: Suitable for: History buffs, families (for patriotic education), and those seeking red tourism experiences. Best time to visit: Spring and autumn (avoid summer heat and winter break crowds). Itinerary planning: It is recommended to allocate half a day to a full day and plan a combined tour with visits to Changsha (Yuelu Mountain, Orange Isle). Advance booking: Some venues require real-name booking; check official channels for the latest policies. Summary: Shaoshan holds an irreplaceable position in red tourism. If you want to gain a deeper understanding of modern Chinese history or commemorate great figures, this is well worth a visit. Conversely, if you prefer natural scenery or diverse entertainment, lower your expectations accordingly. A well-planned itinerary will enhance your experience.

The main purpose of this trip to Shaoshan was to see this mysterious western cave. After taking the sightseeing bus in, I saw that the scenery of the scenic area was indeed very beautiful, the environment was tranquil, and the air was fresh; it was truly a paradise on earth.

Shaofeng is worth a visit. It is convenient and fast to take the cable car up and down, saving time and effort, and the price is reasonable. The scenery at the top of Shaofeng is good, and you can overlook the rolling mountains of Shaoshan. The scenic area is relatively clean and the air is fresh.

Xiangtan Wanlou is worth a visit. The following is an introduction to its highlights: High historical and cultural value It has a long history: it was first built in the 43rd year of Wanli in the Ming Dynasty (1615). It was named by Li Tengfang, a Beijing official at the time, which means "ten thousand is a large number, and the city will become bigger from then on." It has been rebuilt many times in the long history and has witnessed the rise and fall of Xiangtan for nearly four centuries. It is the spiritual totem of Xiangtan culture. There are many celebrity anecdotes: in ancient times, Xiangtan literati and poets often gathered here, climbing up the stairs to observe the scenery, recite poems and compose poems. For example, Xiangtan County Magistrate Bao Hongkui and Beijing official Li Tengfang all had stories with Wanlou, adding a strong cultural atmosphere here. Distinctive architectural features Unique structure: It adopts a structure of nine floors inside and five floors outside, with a total height of 63.48 meters. The main building is 52.58 meters high, which means the 95 Supreme. It is one of the tallest antique buildings along the Xiangjiang River and is known as the first building in Xiaoxiang. Style fusion: It not only incorporates the solemnity and elegance of royal courtyards and first-class temples, but also absorbs the characteristics of Jiangnan folk houses such as horse head walls and gray tiles. The overall style is generous and magnificent, with a huge "Ten Thousand Buildings" plaque hanging high. The plaque inscribed by calligrapher Shen Peng adds a lot of color to it. Excellent view of the landscape Overlooking the Xiangjiang River: Located on the bank of the Xiangjiang River, you can enjoy the magnificent scenery of the Xiangjiang River by climbing to the Wanlou Tower. You can have a panoramic view of the night view of the Xiangjiang River and feel the endless flow of the river and the prosperity of the city. Surrounding supporting facilities: There are also special projects such as Youth Pier and gourmet snacks in the scenic area. There are modern buildings such as Liancheng Bridge in the surrounding area, forming a unique landscape where tradition and modernity complement each other. Rich cultural and tourism activities Light show performance: A light and shadow show is held around 7 o'clock every night. Before the light and shadow show, there are warm-up activities such as fire dance and "shake" interaction on mobile phones to attract tourists to participate and spread Xiangtan culture. Cultural exhibition experience: The first floor is the "Meet the Eighteenth President Again" metaverse, which creates 6 chapters of Xiangtan culture. You can interact with "Qi Baishi", listen to the voice of the Republic of China, watch a play, and immerse the Eighteenth President, etc.; the seventh floor There is an exhibition of Xiangtan historical celebrities, and the corridor outside has a wide view, giving you an unobstructed view of the night view of the Xiangjiang River and the market.

With its unique landscape of "one river, two banks, mountains, water, islands, and city," the Xiangjiang River flows gently northward. High-rise buildings line the riverbanks, and numerous historical sites and scenic spots abound. The riverside scenic belt integrates leisure, tourism, and flood control functions, offering breathtaking views.

There were no assigned seats, so you could sit anywhere. We spent most of our time on the third deck enjoying the view and taking photos. Although it was very hot outside, there was a breeze on both sides of the deck, so it wasn't too bad. There were karaoke machines and vendors selling snacks and drinks on both the second and third decks. The air conditioning on the second deck was very strong. We arrived at the pier half an hour early, and there was already a queue.
