Lanyang Museum

279 reviews
Lanyang Museum combines local marine tourism features, connecting the Northeast Coast scenic area, Toucheng Old Street, local communities, and exhibition halls to form a tourism corridor. It serves as a cultural tourism hub in the scenic resource zone, aiming to revive the glory of Shihgang Spring Sails while realizing the concept of "Yilan as a museum." [Architectural Features] The main structure of the museum peaks toward Turtle Island in the east and gradually slopes down to ground level in the southwest, forming a triangular pyramid. The exterior walls are directly embedded into the earth, evoking the imagery of towering boulders and harmonizing with the black reefs in the park's waters. The facade design is inspired by the musical notes of Vivaldi's violin concerto "The Four Seasons." The architect arranged stone and cast aluminum panels along the melody lines, creating a dynamic musical tribute that mirrors the farmland views of Lanyang Plain. "Permanent Exhibition - Ocean Layer: The rivers of the Lanyang River confluence plain flow into the sea, connecting with the Kuroshio Current from the equator. Let us follow the tides, dive deep, and rise with the upwelling, experiencing the tremors of undersea volcanoes amidst the migration of glass eel schools and the swaying of corals." [Permanent exhibition on the plains levelWater and rivers have shaped the lifestyle of the Yilan Plain. The focus of the Plains Level exhibition at Lanyang Museum highlights the arterial rivers that once deeply influenced the socio-economic life of the Lanyang Plain, as well as the connection between rural wisdom and water in daily life.Yilan · 22.3km from downtown

Yilan Traditional Arts Center is a paradise for all art, culture, and literature lovers, and a must-visit attraction when traveling to Yilan. The park features three notable buildings to visit: Wenchang Temple, the former residence of Yilan's first imperial examination graduate Huang Zuanxu, and Guangxiao Hall, each with its unique characteristics and representing the local art and culture. Wenchang Temple is revered by locals as a sacred sanctuary for scholars, as it enshrines the Five Saints of Literature who have long protected academics. Additionally, its halls also worship deities like the patron saints of opera and craftsmanship, who play a vital role in preserving Yilan's traditional arts. Beyond these three buildings, the park offers many other attractions to explore. On Chuan Yi Boulevard, numerous unique handmade stalls will dazzle your eyes, while lively performances entertain you at the square. When you need a break, head to the ferry pier and board a cruise to admire the scenic views. You can also visit Guangxiao Hall and the former residence of imperial scholar Huang Zuanxu to learn about Yilan's family traditions, birth rituals, and folk culture. Within the park, join DIY craft workshops to create handmade souvenirs or participate in the lively religious procession to ward off evil spirits and bring home abundant good fortune.Yilan · 5.6km from downtown

Taiping Mountain was formerly known as "Mian Nao", which means "lush and green" in the Atayal language. People can stroll in the primeval forest behind Zhen'an Temple and let their thoughts soar to the past when the mountain was covered with giant trees. Drive along the Cuifeng Forest Trail, where you can often see animals such as Taiwan macaques and emperor pheasants. The end point is Taiwan's largest alpine lake: Cuifeng Lake, which is 1,840 meters above sea level. On the opposite bank is the home of the national treasure Taiwan beech. In autumn, you can enjoy the golden mountains along the 4-kilometer trail. The Jiuzhize Hot Spring, not far from the toll station, is a well-known carbonated spring and is also a major feature of this place. Healthy and delicious food loved by the whole family, along with warm hospitality, are the principles upheld by Sinbow Leisure Farm founders Zhang Zhengxiong and Ye Meiyue. After retiring as an engineer, Zhang Zhengxiong returned to his hometown Sanxing to grow scallions, applying his engineering research mindset to perfecting scallion cultivation and pursuing the golden ratio of ingredients. Sinbow Leisure Farm cultivates Sanxing scallions using "eco-friendly farming methods," nourishing them with milk and pomelo juice while employing manual weeding and reducing chemical fertilizer usage. This ensures safer consumption and experiences for consumers while being more environmentally sustainable. For their scallion products, only the finest one-heart-two-leaf portions are selected, maintaining a perfect 1:1 golden ratio of white to green sections to fully preserve Sanxing scallions' delicious flavor and nutritional value. The farm offers a Sanxing scallion experience with various DIY activities, including making Sanxing scallion pies, scallion pancakes, scallion bread, and scallion pizza. You can also interact with adorable Australian miniature donkeys and playful sika deer. A café is available on-site. For added convenience, street-side stores have been opened in Jiaoxi and Luodong, offering ready-to-eat meals and frozen products. Experience farm-to-table food education firsthand in the fields with diverse activities: Yilan's unique agricultural product, the Sanxing scallion, takes center stage. Visit the hometown of Sanxing scallions and participate in guided tours of the scallion fields, scallion harvesting, washing, and DIY activities like making scallion pies, scallion bread, and scallion pizza. These hands-on activities allow both kids and adults to learn about Sanxing scallions and Yilan's local environment through direct participation. Currently there are 5 sika deer and 6 miniature donkeys (including 2 baby donkeys that just turned 1 year old). The attached cafe provides a cozy environment. Unlike typical "feed-only" experiences, professional guides use fun interactive methods to help visitors of all ages learn about the animals. A beautifully designed museum to represent tbe four season and using the building to reflect on the actually shape of Yilan geography. The museum has 4 floors and should be view from 4th floor back down to the first floor. The exhibitions are organised in its historical chronological order. Amazing stories prsented about its aboriginal people group around the area.

Yanbo Huashijian – Yilan Traditional Arts – Located in the National Center for Traditional Arts, Yilan Traditional Arts Park. With the concept of "Overnight stay in Lanyang Arts City, strolling through ancient alleys," it allows guests to stay comfortably, play freely, and gather at the center of traditional arts, discovering the cultural and artistic traces hidden in everyday life, deeply experiencing and promoting Taiwan's traditional arts. All guest rooms are designed by Huang Sheng-yuan Architects, featuring nostalgic terrazzo floors, corridors, ponds, pavilions, and wooden chairs. Wandering freely through the rich Minnan-style architecture feels like stepping back in time to old Taiwan, leaving behind moments filled with profound cultural memories. Part 3

Super lovely animal kingdom where you can get close to some of animals through the visit. Some animals are even allowed to feed or pet. You have to get there by occasional bus or take a taxi, but it's really worth it.

Guishan Island, also known as Guishan Islet, is the largest island in Yilan County and the only active volcano in Taiwan. It is named after its turtle-like appearance. Due to its prominent terrain, Guishan Island was once listed as a military stronghold and became a controlled area for the garrison of the National Army. On August 1, 2000, Guishan Island was officially opened to tourism. The special geology has formed many spectacular views, such as the Rising Sun on Guishan Mountain, the Smoke on Guidao Island, the Stalactites in the Spectacle Cave, the Turtle Eggs, the Cliffs of Turtle Rock, the God Turtle Wearing a Hat, and the Spirit Turtle Wagging its Tail.

Making scallion pancakes was a very fun and enjoyable experience, and even children could try it themselves; the scallion pancakes they made were delicious. However, the scallion-picking experience was just average; each person could only pick two scallions, and the time felt very rushed, leaving insufficient time for a truly fulfilling experience.
