Are you flexible with your travel times and looking to save on your LNER journey? Off-Peak and Super Off-Peak tickets offer discounted fares when you travel outside the busiest periods. If you have some flexibility in your schedule, you can enjoy lower prices and a more comfortable trip by avoiding peak-hour travel.

When are Off-Peak LNER tickets valid?

Off-Peak times vary depending on whether you're travelling north or south:

  • Northbound trains (from London)
    • Not valid for departures from London between 06:45 and 07:58 (Monday–Thursday).
    • Not valid for departures from London between 15:58 and 17:45 (Monday–Thursday).
  • Southbound trains (towards London)
    • Not valid for arrivals into London before 10:08 (Monday–Thursday).
  • Weekends & Bank Holidays
    • You can travel at any time with an Off-Peak ticket.

With an Off-Peak Return ticket, your return journey must be made within one calendar month (unless it’s an Off-Peak Day ticket, which is only valid for same-day travel).

If you need to switch to a Peak-time service on the same day, you can pay the difference at an LNER Travel Centre. If you need to change your travel day entirely, you’ll need to refund your ticket and book a new one.

When are Super Off-Peak LNER tickets valid?

Super Off-Peak tickets offer even greater savings but come with stricter time restrictions:

  • Northbound trains (from London)
    • Not valid for departures from London before 09:06 and between 15:00 and 18:58 (Monday–Thursday).
  • Southbound trains (towards London)
    • Not valid for arrivals into London before 11:17 (Monday–Thursday).
  • Weekends & Bank Holidays
    • You can travel at any time with a Super Off-Peak ticket.

Super Off-Peak Return tickets are also valid for one calendar month, except for Super Off-Peak Day tickets, which must be used on the same day.

Please note that Super Off-Peak tickets are not usually available for First Class travel on LNER.
