What is there to do in London?
You'll never be short of exciting things to do in London. Because it's such a big and vibrant city, there's something for everyone to get stuck into! Here are just a few ideas. We've got plenty more on our London Travel Guide.
If you're into modern art, there are few better places to visit than the Tate Modern. Located in the former Bankside Power Station, the building itself is almost as impressive as the art it contains. The mostly free gallery focuses on art produced after 1900. The works on show are in themed sections and do change semi-frequently, so there's always a reason to revisit. In addition, the vast Turbine Hall features commissioned art installations by contemporary artists. They are usually imposing and immersive - definitely a part of the Tate experience. Blackfriars is the nearest Tube station, which can take you there directly from Kings Cross.
When you've seen all you can see in the Tate, it's worth strolling across the Millennium Bridge and heading towards the building that has been the most iconic part of London's skyline for centuries: St Paul's Cathedral. Completed in 1710 with a dome rather than the more usual spire, it replaced an earlier church that was caught in the Great Fire of London. It's a working church that holds services throughout the day, but visitors are also able to pay to wander around this impressive building. The second largest church in the country, it was designed by Sir Christopher Wren, who also created about 50 other churches in London!
There are plenty of places to grab a coffee or a bite to eat in the vicinity of St Paul's. This includes the impressive One New Change shopping and leisure park, just across the road. There's even the chance to enjoy incredible views of the dome as the sun sets.
When it's time to head home, Mansion House tube stop will take you directly back to Kings Cross on the Circle or District lines.
