How long is the journey from London Waterloo to Woking?

The London Waterloo to Woking train travels around 23 miles. Express services take 25m, whereas the slower stopping services can take nearly 50 minutes, but many intermediate trains come in at around the 30-minute mark.

Express trains are likely to stop at Clapham Junction on their way to Woking. Slower services will stop in Surbiton, Walton on Thames and Weybridge, while the slowest of all will stop at around 11 stations.

What Train Line Goes to Woking?

Woking station is a major stop on the South West Main Line heading towards Weymouth. Trains are operated by South Western Railway, and the services operating on the route are the Class 444 Desiro, which won an award a few years ago for its mechanical reliability. The trains have accessible facilities and have six cycle spaces, though they must be pre-booked, and non-folding bicycles cannot be carried on peak trains.

The South West Main Line has several branches, so there are plenty of options for onward travel from Woking, too. The Portsmouth Direct Line splits off at Woking, travelling via Guildford to reach Portsmouth Harbour, with options to travel over to the Isle of Wight. You can also travel to the island from Southampton and Lymington Pier, both of which are served by South Western Railway. They run the Island Line on the Isle of Wight itself, too.

The other major branch down the line from Woking splits off at Basingstoke and travels to Exeter St Davids via Salisbury.

What car parking facilities are available at Woking Station?

There is a long-stay car park serving Woking Station. It has 570 spaces available for travellers. It is located just off Oriental Road and is about a 5-9 minute walk from the station, depending on where you are in the car park.

Since this is such a common commuter town, users can purchase monthly, quarterly and annual season tickets as well as pay at the point of use.

There are also six accessible spaces in the main car park, and South Western Railway offer complimentary parking to Blue Badge holders who register with them.

There is a Premium car park with 20 spaces and 6 accessible spaces. As the name suggests, this has higher charges, but it is directly adjacent to the train station.

Does Woking Station have cycle facilities?

What is it like in Woking?

The station itself is a relatively unusual 1930s Art Deco style brick building, so it does look different from the more usual Victorian station constructions.

Woking is home to the Shah Jehan Mosque, which was the first purpose-built Islamic place of worship in the country. Built in 1889, it was once part of a much bigger campus that is now mostly the Lion Retail Park.

There are plenty of things to do for pleasure in Woking. The Lightbox Gallery is a hard-to-miss building in the heart of the town. It offers world-class temporary exhibitions, alongside its collections of sculpture, modern British art, and local works and historical artefacts that tell the story of Woking. They also hold regular creative workshops for residents interested in developing their artistic expression.

Keen gardeners have a great reason to visit Woking: the Royal Horticultural Society's Garden Wisley. While it's actually located about 3.5 miles east of Woking, a bus will take you there in about three-quarters of an hour. It's enormous and very popular - over a million people visit the 240-acre site every year. The space encompasses both working areas, where the charity develops new cultivars of plants, as well as many decorative gardens that are a treat to walk around. And with six refreshment venues, you'll probably want to stay for some food, too!
