Chengjiang animal fossil group is located in Maotian Mountain, 5 kilometers east of Chengjiang County. The discovery of this fossil group has shocked the international scientific community and is known as "the rarest in the history of modern paleontology research in the world" and "one of the most amazing scientific discoveries of the 20th century". It can be called a national treasure. It is a valuable asset of Yunnan and even the whole country, and is the golden key to reveal the mystery of the Cambrian "Big Bang of Life". On January 14, 2011, the Chinese government declared the materials to UNESCO World Heritage Site, marking the official status of Chengjiang Fossil Site as China's World Heritage Declaration Project in 2011. On July 1, 2012, the 36th World Heritage Committee meeting in St. Petersburg, Russia, announced that the Chengjiang fossil site in China was included in the World Heritage List.
