Dutch Windmill Village Nanny-level Guide
Yanjiao Village lies quietly in the province of Overijssel in the northeast of the Netherlands, within the De Wieden nature reserve. For over 700 years, there have been no high-rise buildings or bustling traffic, making it seem like a paradise on earth. The entire village is covered in greenery, with a dense network of rivers running through it and 176 wooden bridges connecting every household, earning it the nickname "Venice of the North". To visit, one must either take a boat or walk, as cars must be parked outside the village. The best time to visit Yanjiao Village is from April to October, and a day trip is sufficient as the village is not very large. The Netherlands is in full bloom from March to the end of May, with mid-April being the best time to visit.
At the train station's automatic ticket machine, buy a 1-day tourist pass for 44 euros (outside of peak hours before 6:30am and after 9:00am) which allows you to take all forms of transportation within the Netherlands (trains, buses, trams, and metros). If you're making a round trip in one day, buying this pass is even more cost-effective. Download the NS transportation app to check train schedules.

Take a train and the scenery along the way is like an animated film flashing by, with each frame lingering and lively. Take a bus and savor the slow pace of life. And in the villages, the crisscrossing river network and 176 small wooden bridges connecting every household make boating an endless pleasure.
Take a boat ride (boat rental shops are located at the entrance of the village), or you can also bike or walk. It takes one or two hours to visit, but it is highly recommended to stay nearby for one or two days if you are not in a hurry. You can also take a walk around the surrounding area! It was a trip to Netherlands with family and we visited Goethoorn. The view was so beautiful and we really enjoyed a lot👍👍👍
On a radiant day, Giethoorn Museum beckons visitors into a tranquil journey through Dutch village life. Set against the backdrop of Giethoorn's picturesque waterways and verdant landscapes, the museum provides an enchanting glimpse into the region's vibrant heritage. Inside, charming displays exhibit traditional Dutch artifacts, offering insight into the area's canal-centric lifestyle. Whether meandering through the exhibits or leisurely navigating the canals, the museum promises a serene retreat. However, during peak sunny hours, the outdoor spaces may become crowded, slightly diminishing the tranquility. Nevertheless, a trip to Giethoorn Museum guarantees an immersive experience, celebrating the beauty, history, and timeless allure of village living.
Giethoorn is a charming village located in the northeastern Dutch province of Overijssel. The village is mostly car-free and is famous for its picturesque waterways that are filled with boats, footpaths, bicycle trails, and centuries-old thatched-roof houses. The village shares its borders with a section of the Weerribben-Wieden National Park, which is a marshy area that was once popular for peat and reed harvesting. Adjacent to the park is the Museum Giethoorn 't Olde Maat Uus, which is a farm
If you have limited time in the Netherlands, it's not worth going out of the way to get to Giethoorn. I'd recommend an extra day in Amsterdam over a day trip to Giethoorn. But if you have more time, it can be worth visiting Giethoorn to drive a boat around the canals can be a great way to spend your day!
Giethoorn is a fairyland green lush town and fascinating to explore. Must take a boat ride across the canals among the huts - a taste a part
