A wonderful museum by town staff who love only one wooden carving bear
Original Text
In addition to the exhibition of the wood carving bear itself, it is an exhibition that shows the history of wood carving bears in Hokkaido, the history of artists and changes in style. It's not large, but it's a very spectacular exhibition. I can't believe that only one staff member made such a wonderful exhibition with the feeling that he liked wood carving bears.
It is located in the same building as the town-run local museum. Large and small 々 bear wood carvings are on display, and you can learn about the history of the time when crafts were popular.
There are various theories about the origin of wood carving bears, but it is said that it was first created in Yakumo based on a wood carving bear, a souvenir brought back from Switzerland. The little bear is also on display with the model. There is also a parking lot.
While leaving the wood carving bear exhibition, I enjoyed the exhibition of stuffed animals unique to Hokkaido, the tools for the lives of Ainu and pioneers, and the exhibition of folk crafts. Wooden carving is good, but the stuffed brown bear in the entrance lobby is very powerful. 2 Wood carving classrooms are also held on the floor. It is a facility that children and adults can fully enjoy learning history and culture.
The two major roots of wood carving bears are Yakumo and Asahikawa.
