Old gate of "Yamaguchi from Hagi" at the end of Tokugawa-Period to keep contact with Kyoto and Edo (Tokyo)
This is old gate of "Yamaguchi from Hagi of Chushu-Han" at the end of Tokugawa-Period to keep contact with Kyoto and Edo (Tokyo) against US American request officially to open Japanese country and so ...
The former Yamaguchi Domain Gate is left near the former Yamaguchi Prefectural Government Building. Terumoto Mori was transferred to Choshu after the battle of Sekigahara, and he was based in Hagi on the Sanin side, but changed his base to Yamaguchi on the Sanyo side. It was also the clan gate that was built in 1864. The Cabinet Building was destroyed during the first conquest of Choshu, but the gate was left behind. It is a valuable building that reminds me of those days.
An old gate near the front yard of the prefectural office
Original Text
An old gate near the front yard of the prefectural office. It was not a castle gate, but an old government gate, and it was a heavy wooden gate that was even and created a solemn atmosphere.
It is the main gate of "Yamaguchi Seijido" built by Takachika Mori, the feudal lord of the time, when the feudal lord moved from Hagi to Yamaguchi in 1864 (Genjigen), and is in front of the current Yamaguchi Prefectural Office. It had a structure called "Yakuimon" with a kiritsuma-zukuri style and a main tile-roofed roof, and it was a stately gate like a castle gate. There was something like a moat right next to it, and it was a place like a castle ruin.
This is the place where Yamaguchi Castle was located. It is a gate made when Takachika Mori, the lord of the Mori domain, moved the domain office from Hagi to Yamaguchi in preparation for the attack of the castle town Hagi from the sea. Since it was made in a hurry, it was separated because it utilized wood such as waste wood and relocation, but it was active as the Yamaguchi clan gate. The surrounding moats and earthworks were also maintained at that time.
