Lisbon money guide: exact ticket prices + how not to overpay in 3 days If you are flying into Lisbon soon, save this. Below are real 2026 prices and the moves that actually save money. Not vibes. Numbers. 1. Airport to center (do this first) At Aeroporto metro station buy a navegante occasional card for 0.50 euro. Load either: · zapping credit (pay per ride at 1.72 euro on metro/Carris), or · one Carris/Metro ride for 1.90 euro Red line metro to Baixa-Chiado / Saldanha area is about 20-30 min. Total first trip usually around 2.40 euro with the new card. Uber/Bolt to center is often around 8-15 euro depending on traffic and surge. Official airport taxi is often around 10-15 euro into the center (meter on, ask for receipt). Apps are usually cheaper than a random fixed price someone offers you. Do not buy the expensive onboard tram ticket later if you already have the card. On tram 28, onboard cash fare is about 3.30 euro. With zapping it is 1.72. That alone is a classic tourist tax. 2. Best transport setup for 3 days Card: navegante occasional = 0.50 euro, reloadable for a year. Price cheat sheet (2026): · single Carris/Metro: 1.90 euro · zapping Carris/Metro: 1.72 euro · 24h Carris/Metro unlimited: 7.25 euro · 24h Carris/Metro + CP trains (Sintra/Cascais lines): 11.40 euro · 24h with ferry to Cacilhas: 10.35 euro When 24h wins: If you will ride metro + tram + elevators more than about 4-5 times in 24 hours, take the 7.25 day pass. Santa Justa and the funiculars are covered on the Carris day ticket, and buying them separately hurts. When zapping wins: Slow days, mostly walking, 2-3 rides. Load 10 or 15 euro and stop thinking about tickets. Sintra day: Load the 11.40 euro 24h Carris/Metro/CP ticket that morning. Train Rossio or Oriente to Sintra, then bus 434 up to Pena. Do not rent a car for Sintra historic center access to Pena. Private cars are restricted and it turns into a mess. 3. Belem without wasting half a day Closed Mondays for Jeronimos cloister and Belem Tower. Plan Belem Tue-Sun. Buy timed tickets on the official Museus e Monumentos site the night before. Resellers mark it up. Ballpark official adult tickets people are paying in 2026: · Jeronimos cloister: about 18 euro · Belem Tower: about 15 euro Church part of Jeronimos is separate and often free to enter for a look, but the famous cloister is the paid one. Always check the official site the day you book because prices move. Pasteis de Belem: around 1.30 euro per tart. Takeaway line is usually faster than sit-down. Ask for them warm with cinnamon and sugar. Timing tip: early morning or after 14:00. Midday is peak Instagram queue. 4. Sintra / Pena if you only do one palace Pena Essential Visit adult ticket is 20 euro on the official Parques de Sintra site. Youth/senior about 18. Family packs exist if you are 2+2. Book a timed palace slot. The time on the ticket is palace entry, not park entry. After you enter the park you still need about 30 minutes to reach the palace (walk or paid transfer). Arrive early to the park or you miss the slot with no refund. Official site currently says afternoons can be quieter than mornings. Still book ahead in high season. 5. Tram 28 without losing your phone Ride it for the experience once, early (before 9) or later evening. Midday is pickpocket + sardine can. Cheaper and saner: walk chunks of the route (Graca / Alfama / Baixa) and use bus 737 toward the castle area when legs are done. Keep bag in front. No phone hanging out of back pockets. 6. Food budget that feels local Prato do dia (dish of the day) in a normal tasca: often about 8-12 euro and filling. Touristy photo menus in Baixa: easy to hit 18-25 euro for something worse. Time Out Market: go around 17:00, share small plates, do not order a full meal at 4 stalls. Dinner filter that works: Portuguese menu, locals, football on TV. Prices drop. 7. Rough 3-day money map (per person, mid range) · Airport metro in: ~2.40 euro first time with card · City transport: ~7-15 euro/day depending on day pass vs walking · Belem monuments: ~30+ euro if you do cloister + tower · Pasteis stop: ~3-6 euro · Sintra day: train day ticket 11.40 + Pena 20 + snacks · Meals: 25-40 euro/day if you mix prato do dia and one nicer dinner You can do Lisbon cheaper by skipping paid interiors and living on viewpoints + food. You can also burn money fast on hop-on buses, random fado tourist packages, and buying every ticket from a reseller. 8. Do this the night before you fly 1. Screenshot metro map + Rossio-Sintra train idea 2. Decide Belem day that is NOT Monday 3. Prebook Jeronimos/Tower and Pena on official sites only 4. Put Uber and Bolt on your phone with roaming or eSIM ready 5. Pack shoes with grip. Hills are real and cobbles are slippery after rain If this saved you even one bad ticket purchase, save the post.
