Heppenheim, located in southern Hesse, Germany, is the county seat of Bergstrasse. Nestled between the western foothills of the Oden Forest and the renowned Bergstrasse wine region, it has a population of approximately 28,000. Historically documented as early as 755 AD, it is one of Germany's oldest cities. Heppenheim boasts a well-preserved medieval old town, with exquisite timber-framed buildings lining the market square, the most representative being the town hall built in 1705. The Stakenburg Tower, built in the 11th century, overlooks the city and is a significant landmark, offering panoramic views of the Rhine Plain and surrounding vineyards. The magnificent St. Peter's Church, due to its grand scale, is known as the "Bergstrasse Cathedral." Heppenheim is also the heart of the Hesse mountain wine region, renowned for its high-quality white wines, including Riesling.
