Kawah Ijen is rated top tourist spot along with Mt Bromo and Tumpak Sewu waterfall. Great experience and marvellous view. My advice is to start trek from Pos Paltuding as early as 1.00AM to avoid heavy crowd on narrow path from crater lip down to the lake and blue fire point. The entire trek may take up to 2 hours or more depending on individual fitness. If you are a fairly active and sporty person, the trek is just like a walk in the garden. Start early to allow more time for yourself to see blue fire, milky way and sunrise view. Gas mask with rental IDR25000 at Pos Paltuding is necessary as sulphur gas may blow in your direction anytime. Guide with fee IDR100,000 is an option but it's of course helpful and being a good gesture to local community. Please be informed that Ijen is closed for visitors on FIRST FRIDAY every month. #urbanexplorer
