Located in the western part of Shandong Province, Liaocheng is named due to its location on the west bank of the ancient Liaohe River; it has the reputation of being a “water city." Liaocheng was known as Dongchang in ancient times. It has a long history. The cultural and natural attractions here are extremely rich. There are 446 places of historical and natural interest, including 3 state-level key cultural relics protection units and 15 provincial key cultural relics protection units. The place is famous for its outstanding scholars. It is hometown of famous scholars such as Fu Sinian, Ji Xianlin, and the Chinese painting master Li Kuchan.
