The Cylindrical Square was named after the Orillo column that stood here in 193. In 1589, Pope Sixtus V ordered the bronze statue of St. Paul to be placed on the top of the column. The square is rectangular, next to Corso Avenue on the east side, the Cylindrical Gallery on the east side, and the downstairs is now a shopping mall; On the north side is the Palace of Kigi, once the embassy of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, now the seat of the Italian government; on the south side is the northern wall of the Palace of Ferraioli, once the Pope's post office and the chapel of St. Bartholomew; on the west side is the Palace of Weidkin with a colonnade. To the west is Parliament Square Piazza del Parlamento, and to the north is the Montechitorio Palace designed by Bernini Palazzo Montecitorio
