The Tokyo Metropolitan Government is debuting "Autumn Night Museum," a fall night at the museums. From Nov 5–27, six Tokyo Metropolitan museums and art museums will stay open until 8:00 PM every Friday. Explore Tokyo by day, then pick a museum at night to linger over an exhibition or enjoy a concert. ✨ Core highlights and must-do experiences • Edo-Tokyo Museum: See the permanent exhibition and a special show on late Edo/Meiji-era Japanese students and their exchanges with Rutgers University in the United States. On the evening of Nov 6, enjoy a mini concert in front of the Nakamuraza stage inside the permanent exhibition galleries. Entry requires a permanent exhibition ticket. • Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum: The centennial Orsay masterpieces exhibition brings together approx. 110 works, including paintings, sculpture, and photography, with evening viewing on Nov 20 and 27. Two concurrent centennial exhibitions are free. The Orsay exhibition is not eligible for evening discounts. • Tokyo Metropolitan Teien Art Museum: In the Art Deco spaces of the former Prince Asaka residence, see 60+ Marimekko dresses set against rooms filled with pattern. Also open until 8:00 PM on Saturday, Nov 21. Timed-entry reservations are required, and some garden paths close early. • Tokyo Photographic Art Museum: On the second floor, "Duet" presents photography and video by six Asian artists. A next-generation photography show on the third floor rethinks the photograph through memory, materials, and technology. There are evening hours on Thu and Fri. The Kimura Ihei Award 50th anniversary exhibition runs only until Nov 23. • Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo: Discover how Minami Tada uses metal, glass, and acrylic to shape light that shifts with your viewpoint. "Synchronic Constellation" places Taiwanese and Japanese art, film, and literature in a maze-like exhibition space. • Shibuya Koen-dori Gallery: Visit the free Art Brut exhibition "Creative Training!" featuring works such as lovingly reworked old photographs and drawings made by gripping a pen with toes. Remember the dazzling bathhouse in "Spirited Away"? Tiered wooden buildings reflected on the water, red lanterns swaying with a warm glow—almost as if Yubaba might lean out the window at any moment. In Japan, scenes like this aren’t far away. The century-old, three-story wooden pavilion of Dogo Onsen Honkan in Ehime Prefecture is the most widely known inspiration for the bathhouse; 30 historic buildings relocated to the Edo-Tokyo Open Air Architectural Museum on Tokyo’s outskirts—with wooden beams, paper lanterns, and tatami corridors—are practically a real-life rendition of the bathhouse interior. And Kyoto’s Fushimi Inari Taisha, with its thousand torii gates, forms a 4 km vermilion corridor where light and shadow weave into an otherworldly tunnel, echoing Chihiro’s portal into the spirit realm. But you may not know that China has five nightscapes that feel straight out of Spirited Away. 🏮 Chongqing · Hongya Cave An 11‑story complex of stilted houses clings to the hillside, and at night, thousands of lights flicker on at once, mirroring across the Jialing River. Its layered structure parallels the bathhouse—walk out from the 1st floor and you’re on a street; walk out from the 11th floor and you’re still on a street—earning its reputation as China’s version of the bathhouse. Inside, you’ll find hot pot, street snacks, and handicrafts—perfect for browsing and tasting all evening. 🏮 Hunan · Fenghuang Ancient Town Stilted houses along both banks of the Tuo River glow with warm yellow lights after dark. The river is a mirror, and wooden boats glide by. Fenghuang’s night is quieter and more poetic than Hongya Cave, ideal for strolling along the river or grabbing a seat on bar street to savor the gentle charm of Xiangxi, the hometown of Shen Congwen. Miao silver jewelry and ginger candy make great souvenirs. 🏮 Yunnan · Old Town of Lijiang A World Cultural Heritage site, where Naxi wooden architecture unfolds along canals. At night, lanterns brighten Square Street, folk songs and guitar drift from bar street, and waterwheels creak as they turn. Lijiang’s nights are bold and boisterous—meet friends for a local craft beer, listen to "In an Instant," and let your journey play out like a movie. 🏮 Zhejiang · Wuzhen West Zone (Xizha) The ultimate Jiangnan water town. Stone bridges, black-awning boats, and white walls with dark tiles; at night, lanterns light up one by one along the river, turning the water into a long corridor of light and shadow. Wuzhen’s night is restrained and refined—best enjoyed aboard a sculling boat through the water lanes or with a cup of Hangbaiju chrysanthemum tea in a riverside teahouse. 🏮 Zhejiang · Xitang Historic Town of China As famous as Wuzhen, but more down-to-earth and full of local buzz. The thousand-meter roofed corridor is uniquely Xitang—riverfront arcades shield you from wind and rain; at night, lanterns glow while shops, taverns, and inns line the way. Xitang’s night is perfect for strolling in Hanfu—every snap can be a stunning, classic-style shot. From Dogo Onsen to Hongya Cave, from a thousand torii gates to the Tuo River in Fenghuang, the lights of Spirited Away never fade. Choose a night view and give yourself a reason to step into another world.

All the original filming locations for "Your Name" are in Japan—Suga Shrine in Tokyo, Lake Suwa in Nagano, and Hida-Furukawa in Gifu. Completing a pilgrimage to Japan is the ultimate goal for fans. But if you have already been to Japan, these 3 locations in China offer the same soothing vibe, widely endorsed by travelers and creators as the "China version of Itomori." 1️⃣ Ningbo Dongqian Lake (Xiaobaibu Peak + Bohuodi) | The classic "China version of Itomori" Why it is called "Itomori": From the summit of Xiaobaibu Peak, you can look out over all of Dongqian Lake, Ningbo Hanling Old Street, and rolling mountains—the "high vantage over a town + lake" composition mirrors the shot where Taki gazes down at Mitsuha’s town from the mountains. Easy hiking route: Xiaobaibu Peak loop, total length approx. 5 km, easy difficulty, 1.5–2 hours to complete. Along the way, you’ll pass birch woods, mountain hamlets, and distant lake views. At dusk: As the sun sets, the lake sparkles and the entire town is bathed in a golden glow—this is when that "fully soothing" feeling from the movie hits. Ningbo Hanling Old Street: The historic street at the foot of the mountain preserves Republic-era architecture. Paired with the overlook from above, you get a "town panorama" feel. Best time to visit: 5:00–6:30 PM (reach the summit about 1 hour before sunset). Transportation: Ningbo downtown → Dongqian Lake (approx. 30 minutes by car) 2️⃣ Pingyang, Wenzhou | "The Chinese lookalike stairs from Taki and Mitsuha" Why it is called "lookalike stairs": There’s a long run of stone steps with railings and timeworn yellowed houses—directly echoing the scene where Taki and Mitsuha talk in front of a run-down home. Signature long staircase: Stone steps climb from the base of the neighborhood to the top. Weathered handrails, warm muted tones, and old houses create a distinctly Japanese ruin-chic aesthetic. A literary small-town vibe: Old houses, narrow alleys, and sunlight filtering through gaps—every corner is a treasure trove for photographers and creatives. Easy stroll + photos: No mountain hiking needed. Just wander between the stairways and old houses within the neighborhood, with ample time for photos. Best shooting time: 6–8 AM (softest light, fewest visitors) or 4–6 PM. Transportation: Wenzhou downtown → Pingyang (approx. 1.5 hours) 3️⃣ Longquan Mountain, Chengdu | A skyline view over the city and lakes From certain ridgelines, you can see both the urban skyline and lakes, offering a perspective similar to the film’s "high-altitude town overlook." It doesn’t replicate the rustic feel of Suga Shrine; instead, it highlights the "collision of modern city and nature." City-and-lake in one frame: From Longquan Mountain, you can take in the Chengdu Plain, lakes, and the distant skyline—the "nature vs. man-made" contrast evokes the film’s sense of "two worlds overlapping." Easy ridge hikes: Longquan Mountain Scenic Area features multiple gentle ridge trails with wide-open views, taking 2–3 hours to complete. A modern kind of calm: Unlike traditional old towns, the "soothing" feeling here comes from "openness" rather than "nostalgia." Best time to visit: 4:00–6:30 PM (reach the top before sunset to watch the plain glow). Transportation: Chengdu downtown → Longquan Mountain (approx. 1 hour) From Suga Shrine in Japan to these 3 "lookalike" spots in China, you’re not chasing a perfect copy—you’re reinterpreting the film’s sense of "time-crossing and healing" through different landscapes.
