"This guesthouse has a truly warm and welcoming atmosphere! The owner is incredibly hospitable. I made a last-minute booking and completely forgot my makeup (oops!), but the owner was kind enough to let me use her high-end cosmetics. The room layouts and designs are fantastic. They offer various room types – from king/queen rooms to standard rooms and suites – catering to the diverse needs of vacationers. The owner has two courtyards that can accommodate around 30 guests, and there's also a professional meeting room. This makes it particularly well-suited for family reunions and corporate team-building events. Highly recommended! I'd definitely consider booking out the entire place for a private gathering sometime."

Ffapp7The hotel is located pretty much at the entrance of Gubei Watertown. It is not quite a hotel, it’s more like an airbnb.
We couldn’t find the front desk so we had to call to service. He picked us up where we were standing and walked us to the room. If you don’t speak Chinese you may try to use WeChat and chat with them.
The room was a 2 floors apartment, with a little balcony with view to the Great Wall. It is a pretty standard room.
Advice to bring your shampoo and soap, the products in the shower were smelling super bad.
Around the building there are some food options and also a little grocery store.

SssangchuAccurate pictures as shown. Very clean and basic amenities are provided! Clear instructions to check in through WeChat. They do daily room cleaning and top up bottled water as well.. Location is very near to GuBei Water Town Tourist Center where you can get tickets to attractions and Simatai Great Wall!!
Only thing to improve on is the cutlery sets availability for those who are going to do small cooking (I only saw a bowl and some plates and 2 rusty spoon 🤣) & can consider providing coffee/tea in the room, the ambience and view would be even better with a hot drink in hand~

MM476770****Lying in bed, about to fall asleep, the light near the door suddenly flickered a few times on its own. After this continued, we contacted the hotel, who said it was under 24-hour surveillance? We were instantly wide awake – who were they filming at night? We couldn't understand their explanation, but they kindly moved us to room 101 downstairs. However, this incident kept us up all night, and changing hotels too late was inconvenient. Also, the door had no lock on the outside, only on the inside. They said there was 24-hour surveillance, but in such a remote village, who could guarantee who would be coming in and out? The environment here is really nice, and the bed is super big and comfortable, but this hotel stay was a truly strange experience.

HHannah Lauren Bond- The location is excellent. It is just round the corner from Gubei Water Town. A two minute walk to the entrance hall.
- The service was good. The staff added us on WeChat and were very quick to respond to messages and queries. One stand out moment for us was when our food was 2 hours late from a local restaurant. I was struggling to communicate with the restaurant because my Chinese is not very good. Staff reached out on our behalf and sorted the issue for us.
- Cleanliness was OK. The sheets on the bed felt lovely and clean, but the apartment was not spotless. The shower had some black mould, and the floor in the kitchen felt sticky.
- The apartment itself had some pros. My son absolutely loved all the toys and the slides. It made his experience very enjoyable.
- Plenty of towels, toiletries provided.
However
- The shower leaked constantly. Every time we used the shower the bathroom would become flooded - which was a slipping hazard for my son.
- The curtains are very thin. Every morning we were woken up to a bright light streaming through the windows. This meant that my son’s sleep was not great. We did contact the staff about this. They used sellotape to stick up some bedsheets on the windows, but this fell down within minutes! We appreciate the efforts though.
- We would have felt better if there was a stair gate. As this is an apartment aimed at families, a stair gate would be good for safety.
- Limited cutlery is provided. We were given some disposable chopsticks. However very few cooking utensils / no children’s cutlery. Bring your own if you want to cook. :)
- There was only once choice of breakfast - which was not to our personal taste. Would be good if 2 or three options were provided. There is a lovely bakery around the corner and we enjoyed buying our breakfast from there for the remainder of the trip.

FFengfupiaofangAfter a 3-hour train journey, we finally arrived at Gubei Water Town. This villa, located just outside the scenic area, was much better than we expected. It offered exceptional value for money, with high-quality rooms at a very affordable price. The outdoor environment was equally stunning. From the balcony during the day, we enjoyed views of blue skies and white clouds, and at breakfast, we could watch the sunrise through the balcony window. Inside, the decor was very elegant. Every detail, from the wall hangings, curtains, and table lamps, to the small cabinet leading to the balcony and even the table runners, contributed to a cozy yet artistic ambiance. They also paid attention to family-friendly details, providing a tent, a small slide with steps in the outdoor yard, and round tables and chairs both in the yard and on the balcony. Ordering takeout was also very convenient. In the evening, we enjoyed the night view from across the way; the highest, continuous stream of lights must have been the Simatai Great Wall. The nights were incredibly quiet. I even extended my stay by another night, and honestly, if I didn't have to head back for the weekend, I would have gladly stayed for several more days.

XXiaotaiyangxiaIt is very convenient to travel by car with the elderly, children and dogs. It is located halfway up the mountain next to Gubei Water Town. The housekeeper registered the car in advance, so the car can be parked directly downstairs. The room is large and comfortable, and the children are also very happy.

GGuest UserI spent 3 weekdays at MingTang LinShui Inn, right next to Gubei Water Town, and had a great stay. The host doesn’t speak English but was very kind, helpful, and welcoming throughout my visit.
The location is excellent, with plenty of restaurants and convenience stores nearby. Gubei Water Town is within walking distance—while there's an entrance fee to explore the old quarter, the surrounding area is also peaceful and scenic, perfect for a relaxing stroll.
Just a note: weekends can get crowded, and there may be some noise from nearby night events. But on weekdays, it's quiet, calm, and truly a lovely escape. Highly recommend for a peaceful weekday getaway!

EEryufengThe room was very well furnished and fully equipped, and overall I was satisfied. However, the walk from Parking Lot 1 to the room was at least 1.3 kilometers, and there was no shuttle. This was quite disappointing for us, exhausted from climbing the Great Wall. The shuttle service cost 30 yuan per trip, but on the last day, they called to inform us that they couldn't help with our luggage, which was a real problem for families traveling with large luggage.
